1.
Think Darkglass, but more aggressive and more distorted, its a beast of a pedal
Nice description! Still for sale...
2. Here's another sale that's only as a result of my recent MarkBass Multiamp purchase. Crown XLS1500 Class D Power amp, rated 775 watts per side at 2ohm, 535 watts per side at 4ohm or 300 watts per side at 8 ohm. I used this with a Sansamp RBI preamp and 2 MarkBass Traveler speakers, 8ohm each, one on each side and barely used 1/4 of the volume. Some good features for a bass power amp, you can run it fine with speakers only on one side, so I had my 2x10 on it's own for rehearsals and then added the 1x15 on the other channel for gigs. As it's stereo, you can tweak the volume of each speaker and don't need to worry about them being balanced I don't think. For bigger gigs all I would have needed to do was chain the 2 x 8 ohm cabs on one side and add 2 more, or a 4 ohm, on the other and that would have given me 1000W+. For crazy volume it will do the full 1500W with 2 ohm speakers. Another nice feature is the "Input Y" setting, which sends the left input to both channels so you don't need stereo out on your preamp, and as a bonus you can use the right channel input as a pass through to feed a desk etc. And then there's the weight and size, it's 2u but not very deep and it weighs just under 4kg. All the specs and details here: http://www.crownaudi...oducts/xls-1500 Excellent power amp if you already get the tone you want from your preamp, which also means you get more like the same sound FOH as through your bass rig. Boxed with manual and power lead, not a mark on it anywhere, less than a year old and has never been pushed even vaguely hard. £195 posted in the UK (Hermes, properly insured). 3. Price drop, now £100 posted for a pedal in brand new condition which normally sells for £159!
4.
... and an Ibanez http://www.guitargui...=13120714083658 that fall within the budget and would do the job well.
I'm looking at an Ibanez Baritone, maybe next year some time. They can be had for less than that, around £450 anyway: http://www.andertons.co.uk/solid-body-electric-guitars/pid31907/cid671/ibanez-rgib6-iron-label-baritone-electric-guitar-in-black.asp
5. I've recently had my second string bass de-fretted, and it's inspired me to mess about with some Cuban-ish bass lines, inspired pretty much exclusively by Cachaito Lopez. I'm learning a few lines and melodically they seem to fit really well against what I already play, which is mainly blues based - they seem almost to be "Latin Blues" to me, maybe that's why the only "Latin" music I've ever liked is Cuban. What's new is the rhythm, it seems very natural to play to but I don't have the knowledge to create backing tracks to play along to. I can probably just get some from Groove Monkey but I need to know what I'm after. So, to get down it, can anyone tell me how to describe the beat / percussion on something like this: https://www.youtube....h?v=-IudnOvyXdk ? or this: https://www.youtube....h?v=Y665wQIg0dY ? I'm guessing it's all Clave based? It's quite exciting, probably my first real foray out of blues / rock based stuff.
6. I've switched between guitar and bass a few times, and I never bother with guitars with tremolo arms any more, in fact I much prefer not to have one. If you really need wammy on something a wammy pedal does it loads better nowadays anyway!
7. We've got some new songs so we're getting ourselves warmed up by playing at The Hop in Leeds on Sunday 6th. It's the "Sunday Gathering" so there will be other acts (often mostly acoustic but it varies) on before us, and then we'll be on about 8. The Hop's always worth a visit, it's a nice bar. It's originals, in the blues / rock / funk kind of area - yeah, I know that doesn't help much It's good though, lot's of groove to it and only one guitar so you can hear the bass There's a link to our website below, none of the super new stuff on there so come and check it out.
8. I'm tempted just to move to Germany and have done with it. The Mrs isn't keen though.
9. I'm having a lot of fun with the free Groove Monkey tracks, I can see some of my hard earned going their way eventually if the paid for stuff is as good.

11. Frank bough an overdrive from me and everything was smooth and easy, a genuine pleasure doing business.
12. Nearly forgot I had this up for sale! Bump, make me an offer if you like. Can't quite understand the lack of interest in it, but there ya go.
13. Steve bought my dbx160A, very easy to deal with, paid straight away and everything went smoothly. Perfect, thanks!
14. Bump for the price drop, still happy for sensible offers.
15. Price Drop: £95 Posted DOD / Black Arts Boneshaker Distortion This is a good one, it was aimed at Baritone and Bass and it works well. It's a nice nasty distortion, and the depth control means you can get lots of low end. On top of that, there's a 3 band parametric eq (3 x stacked eq knobs) so you can dial in exactly the tone you want. It has such a massive range that once you get the hang you can easily find the right tone. It also seems to do a much better distorted low end than some of the others I've tried, so rather than keep undistorted lows with distorted highs you get distorted low end that still sounds good. I thought this one had the most consistent sound over the whole fretboard, where a lot of others sound very different on the high notes to the low. It's basically brand new, I bought it as new on here and have just had a bit of a play at home, literally an hour or so. Boxed, hasn't even had the rubber pad fitted to the bottom. £95 including UK postage (1st class signed for). Not looking for trades, sorry. A decent demo here: https://www.youtube....h?v=mD5kFY2VLa0 Review, not bass specific though: http://tonereport.co.../dod-boneshaker Full details: http://digitech.com/...ucts/boneshaker Quick Pic (click for bigger version):
16.
Yes, doing patch changes with the software is much better, as its quicker to move things about (you can drag the effects/amps between slots) and A/B any changes you make. If you have any issues with the USB it may be that the MA you have has not had the requisite jumper added. Its simple to do if not, I can post the PDF instructions here if needed.
I did need to add the jumper, that made me feel better about keeping a little bag of jumpers from old hard drives I found the PDF, thanks for doing that, very handy. With remote control for working on sounds plus the midi pedalboard for performing this thing is damn near perfect. The only reservation I have at the moment is a combination of the master volume thing and the DI levels. I have master volume set to manual, and the DI set to "end of chain" so that I can use a post amp EQ to trim the volume between patches, but like that it seems that the master volume controls the DI volume as well. So I have the MA plugged into my audio interface at home for recording, and the amp well down, but for a gig the master will be way up and that gives a *really* hot signal. Plus if we're 2 songs in and I can't hear myself on stage, if I turn the amp up I'll be turning the bass up on the desk as well - yes, I know the sound guy should deal with it, but it'd be nice if that didn't happen. I'm going to have a play with the DI settings, I don't know if I can use the amp post-eq setting plus the "use cab sim" and a level on the cab sim to keep the volume even and bypass master volume? Presumably the 2015 versions don't have this problem.
17. Been playing with the Multiamp some more, it really is excellent. The newest discovery which I havn't seen mentioned here is that quite a few of the amps have extra parameters on top of the gain and eq, just hit OK and you get a menu. This completely brought the "blue" tube amp to life for me. They're pretty obvious with most amps that have them, but I couldn't work out what the ones on the BB (I think, one of the Markbass ones anyway) were, They'e VLE and VPF, but I found it easily enough on the Markbass site:
The VLE and VPF are useful EQ filters that help you adapt your sound for different styles of music. The VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) is a shelf EQ that cuts a wider and wider range of high frequencies as you turn it up. Markbass amps are very clear-sounding, and this filter has the effect of drawing you into the mix more, making your sound less present. It's kind of like an "old school" knob! The VPF (Variable Preshape Filter) boosts lows and highs, and cuts mids. Some call this kind of effect a scoop, a smiley-shape EQ, or an enhance knob. It's very effective for slap bass, pick playing, and driving eighth-note rock. These two filters can be combined for interesting effects. But remember that they are off when they are all the way counterclockwise--we suggest you start in that position and turn the filters up gradually, one at a time, to hear and understand what they do.
I've got the MarkBass MIDI pedalboard working a treat now, it's a bit fiddly to set up but once it's done it's very good. I'm starting to get some presets done for a couple of general sounds and for some specific songs and I'm finding that if you spend some time tweaking the subtler aspects you can get really, really nice tone.
18. Bump, I don't mind people making me a sensible offer on this (but still no trades, thanks, got to reduce the gear stockpile!)
19. dbx 160A mono 1u rack mount compressor Full details are here: http://dbxpro.com/en/products/160a I bought this based on recommendations on here and elsewhere and it is good, it's a fairly transparent musical compressor. All the features are on the site above, but the things that I think make it good are: - Hard or soft knee compression - Full ratio range from 1:1 through "normal" to infinity, and, as they say, beyond (to -ve compression). - The display - this is the thing I will miss most, the LED display on this makes it so easy to set up. - Gain (as on most) is very handy, I used this to get my Sansamp output up to the level I wanted for my power amp. I had this in the effects loop of my Sansamp, or you can have it before or after a preamp. A quick search on here came up with this: http://basschat.co.u..._hl__dbx%20160a with the 160A getting quite a few mentions (first and last pages). This is another casualty of my MarkBass Multiamp purchase, it's meant to replace everything but I was pretty tempted to keep this. It's less than a year old and in very good condition, it's been safely racked up in the same ABS rack the whole time. Boxed with manual and UK power lead. A few pics (click for larger versions): £175.00 posted, or collect from BD20 (Silsden).
20. This is still for sale, and I've checked the measurements again and it is sendable via Hermes. so I can now do it @ £34 posted.
