1. those would be great, thank you very much! Flickr would be ideal, then I can just embed them from there so the link goes back to you
2. Hey all, tomorrow I'm releasing the recording of my set from this year's Bass Guitar Show, or at least, the duo part of it with Jon Thorne. Do any of you that were there have pictures from the gig? I've got a couple from FB, but would love to see more if anyone has any. Let me know if you'd be happy with me sharing them around online (with credit intact obviously ) thanks! Steve www.stevelawson.net
3. Hey all, I had a lovely weekend at the bass show - it's one of my favourite bass events in the year, largely because of the group of people it brings together. Getting to hear Lee Sklar would've been worth the cost of entry for the weekend on its own, such an inspiring man and bassist. Was also knocked out by Yolanda Charles and Rob Harris playing drummerless funk on the Elixir stand (who thought that at a bass show the funkiest guy in the room would turn out to be a guitar player? ) It was a real joy and a privilege to play, especially with Jon Thorne having agreed to join me (we got it recorded and it'll be coming out soon, as well as more gigs!) thanks so much to those of you who came to listen, and a MASSIVE apology for saying I'd come out and chat straight away afterwards and then disappearing for 45 minutes... I was grabbed back stage (not literally *grabbed*) and taken away for a photoshoot and an interview straight away... sorry if that meant we didn't get to chat. Hopefully it'll happen at a gig somewhere soon My favourite things of the weekend: Lee Sklar, Yolanda, Shuffler, Mo Foster, Frank Bello, Twinscapes (Colin Edwin and Lorenzo Feliciati) and Chloe Treacher/Kat Bax doing a set of vox/2xbass/drums stuff on the Elixir stand. Lovely arrangements. My only big complaint was the lack of women on the mainstage and masterclass program. Am pretty sure they won't make that mistake again... I didn't spend that much time on the main show floor, though it was great to see more Americans coming over and backing up their own gear - the Aguilar guys are wonderful, as are Rob Elrick, Sheldon Dingwall, Darryl Anders from MXR (who is also an OUTSTANDING player) and the Fodera guys. A big thank you to the organisers and the chaps from MSL/Markbass for their logistical help over the weekend - the backstage crew were fantastic - helpful, resourceful and smiley. Was great to meet some of you from the forum too! Steve www.stevelawson.net
4. Spacechick - Wales is on the agenda for the next tour. Hopefully Cardiff, maybe Swansea! Nugget - email me, we'll sort something out for next time I play round there. Sorry you missed it. Rumple. We'll be back soon London is tomorrow night! Was so great to see a couple of basschat guys last night - Yorks5Stringer, was a pleasure to meet you and Axeman! Steve www.stevelawson.net
5. Hi Sam, yeah, we'd love to play further north - hopefully next time we'll get to spread out a little and play in more places! We nearly had a gig in Manchester, but didn't get sorted in time... soon! Steve
6. Platypus - that'd be great! Hope to see you in London Geoff - thanks very much, the encouragement is massively appreciated. Yo's one of my favourite bassists too, so I get four nights of bass lessons just watching her play. yorks5stringer - that's great! Will be lovely to see you. Please come and say hi! Steve www.stevelawson.net
7. OK, absurdly late notice of this one, but Yolanda and I have got a four date mini-tour of England this week, which starts in Birmingham tomorrow night, at Tower Of Song, then goes to Stourbridge, Axminster and London. Yo's playing with her incredible french drummer Nicolas Viccaro, I'm playing solo and we'll no doubt do a thing or two as a trio Full details are here, with ticket links, maps etc. http://www.stevelawson.net/2013/11/uk-tour-with-yolanda-charles-starts-this-sunday/ Would be really lovely to see some of you. V. sorry for the late notice (really should've posted this months ago!) cheers! Steve www.stevelawson.net

9. That's brilliant that you've got Laurence! He's wonderful
10. ...guess not then. May have to buy one unseen and take the risk...
11. Came across this at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt :: http://eshop.amtelectronics.com/effect-pedals-fx/amt-electronics-llm-2-zero-optical-volume-pedal.html Anyone seen one? tried one? know of a place in the UK that stocks them? If the taper is smooth and it's noiseless it's the answer to a whole lot of problems Steve www.stevelawson.net
12. it's two days away! V. much looking forward to this. blog post about it here - http://www.stevelawson.net/2013/03/this-coming-sunday-birmingham-bass-night/ see you on Sunday, Brummies, Steve www.stevelawson.net

14. Will do, Shelley - hoping to do this every couple of months with different guests
15. not sure if this should go here or in 'events', but anyway... March 17th, Tower of Song in Cotteridge. £7/£4 concs. Me, Italian bass genius Lorenzo Feliciati, and fab solo bassist Russ Sargeant Promo blurb below: FB event page is at https://www.facebook.com/events/274957155969270/ hope to see some of you there! The first ever Birmingham Bass Night is here next month! featuring three amazing performers. Joining Brum’s resident solo bass maestros, Steve Lawson and Russ Sargeant will be headliner, Italian bass-legend Lorenzo Feliciati. Lorenzo Feliciati - one of Italy’s most respected bass innovators, Lorenzo Feliciati’s combination of electric jazz with progressive rock and electronica elements, coupled to his amazing dextrous skill on the instrument, make for a compelling and exciting music-world. Receiving his initial impetus to play bass from seeing Jaco Pastorius with Weather Report, Lorenzo added Mick Karn, Pino and Percy Jones to his list of fretless-inspirations and forged a celebrated career as both a side-man and a band-leader in his home country, and further abroad. His latest project, Naked Truth, featuring King Crimson drummer Pat Mastelotto, brings together his twin loves of jazz and progressive music, and has been critically acclaimed worldwide. Steve Lawson - it true that there aren’t too many musicians who’ve managed to forge an international music career as solo bass guitarists. But in the last 13 years Steve Lawson has toured the world, produced 20 albums (10 solo, 10 in collaboration), been featured in numerous magazines and newspapers, played most of the major bass events, had radio airplay on four continents, and built a reputation as one of the respected bass teachers and ‘new music economy’ thinkers around. His approach to looping and layering his bass in real time builds complex and beautiful soundscapes that sound very little like a bass at all. Has to be seen (and heard) to be believed. 'Steve Lawson is a brilliant musician. I've known about him and listened to him for many years. He may not be one of the most famous bassists but he is definitely one of the most talented' - Victor Wooten Russ Sargeant - Russ Sargeant is a bass player and multi-instrumentalist based near Birmingham. He uses live looping and effects to create beautiful layered music - sound upon sound; sometimes with multiple instruments but mostly only using electric and acoustic basses. His music is a blend of Ambient, Jazz and eclectic sounds and has been described as, “subtle layers of sound that emerge gracefully like cinematic soundtracks”. 16. I did a guest gig/Q&A at Victor's camp a couple of years ago, and was REALLY impressed with the set up. Some brilliant people involved there, and all the students I spoke to were really inspired. One of my Beyond Bass Camp students went about 3 years ago, and she had an amazing time. So seems well worth it!
17. there are two vague schools of notation - what you're hearing and what the artist is playing... it's it a transcription of what's being heard, or performance notes for the artist? The split is pretty stark... 'accurate transcriptions' can actually end up being infuriatingly unreadable, as someone writes out a 7 against 4 line that was just the musician slowing down a bit for that phrase... so the reader ends up trying to count 7 against 4 when that was nothing close to what the original performer had in mind... So your transcription of the ambient loop stuff could easily be a very simple set of free time notation with extensive instructions for how to strike the notes and what the processing was that you used (right down to delay and reverb times/saturation/feedback levels). There's a pretty strong history of graphic scores being used to represent music that had either an aleatoric element or that just didn't fit inside the norms of staff/bar notation. ....the other element I've used when presenting looped performance pieces as scores is to use coloured note-heads to indicate whether a line is being played by the player, recorded at that moment, or playing back (if such distinctions are critical to understanding what's happening at any moment). Hope that helps... Steve www.stevelawson.net
18. just to echo what everyone else has said, it def. looks/sounds like a Lane Poor - the hologram sticker is the giveaway. EMGs look different, and the Bartolinis tend to the company name embossed on them... I've got Lane Poors in my 6 string fretless and my 4 string fretted and they sound amazing. Bartolinis in the 6 string fretted... Steve

20. this coming weekend is the two-day Beyond Bass Camp session - it's possible to come to one or either and there's one (possibly two, awaiting confirmation) spaces on each day left, if anyone's interested - see http://www.beyondbasscamp.com/2012/09/october-classes-and-a-new-structure-for-beyond-bass-camp/ for details. Steve
21. Check out the Keith McMillen Softstep - it's by far the best MIDI foot Controller I've ever used. Also sends CC messages which could be really handy with the Pod volume/wah settings... Steve
22. Like Kiwi, I've got 2 Lexicon MPX-G2s. Though my other one's a back up (I used to use it for post processing loops but have a Kaoss Pad for that now. To do what I do with the G2 with stomp boxes would require about 60 pedals and a really tricked out wiring system I do own a few pedals (mainly loop/delay units) and currently have two AMAZING boutique overdrive pedals on loan from a friend, that are in the FX loop on the G2. Am having a lot of fun with those Steve
23. Worth mentioning here that, in addition to the Beyond Bass Camp classes (see other thread), I do currently have a number of slots for private students as well. Drop me a line if you're interested Steve www.stevelawson.net
