1. thanks for the interest, all! I'm really looking forward to this. Jonas has been one of my favourite solo bassist for over 20 years. A few more details on the FB event page for the tour - https://www.facebook.com/events/1139611506066543/ hope the london ticket link will be available v. soon. We're hoping to do more dates next year, if these go well, so please do come and bring friends Steve www.stevelawson.net
2.
Oh and this happened. Photo by Paul Sips (the guy with the hat). I'm on the far left.
Someone was asking about the guy in the hat - that's Paul Sips, owner of Paul's Bass Matters in Nijmegen, The Netherlands - one of my favourite people in the world. He's incredibly knowledgable about pretty everything bass related, a wonderful player and a big part of the fun at bass shows like this, which as well as all the stuff going on on stages and stands, are an amazing opportunity to catch up with friends I rarely get to see (on the other side of Scott is another incredible bassist and human, Claudio Zanghieri - bassist, composer, teacher, BFF ) I had a fantastic weekend - was absolutely blown away by both of Divinity's sets (her masterclass was about the best 45 minutes of anything I've seen/heard at a bass show in many years), Doug Wimbish was the best I've ever seen him (massive props to Dave Marks and Darby Todd who did an amazing job as his band!) and Yolanda Charles' band, with Federico Malaman and the amazing Rob Harris on guitar was outstanding. Sunday's line-up of Divinity into Yolanda into Doug Wimbish was pretty much my perfect bass day line-up All in, a killer weekend (sorry to be so late to the party) Steve
3. Like Simon, I rather liked the 5 string single cut - amazingly consistent tone and feel. Will be interesting to see how the brand/design/ideas develop over the next year or so as they make more instruments! Steve
4. just catching up on this - what a fantastic weekend. Such a pleasure to be there, and a joy to play/talk for you all. Hope to see you all again soon Steve
5. I love this record! Really beautiful music. Definitely recommended
6. I tried it out, both at NAMM and at the Jim Dunlop HQ the week after (there's video of me playing through it floating around on FB) I LOVED it - I'm a fan of the Bass Overdrive too, but this thing has a much wider range of possible sounds, with the two completely different types of overdrive. Yer man at Fuzzrocious has done an incredible job. I definitely want one - will see if I can include it in my pedal masterclass at LBGS Steve
7. really looking forward to being there!
8. Bandcamp have clarified what they're doing with it - basically given us all the info we need to give the VAT man if we go that route, but also transitioning as quickly as possible to being able to pay the VAT so we don't have to... here's my take on it - http://www.stevelawson.net/2014/12/bandcamp-and-the-new-eu-vat-law/ Steve
9. here's a few: http://clatter.bandcamp.com/ (prog duo, amazing) http://julieslick.bandcamp.com/album/streaks (bass/drums/brilliance) http://evanmarien.bandcamp.com/album/collection (bass and drums with some triggered sounds too)
10. Hi all, my new album came out today - it's a duo live set from me and Jon Thorne, recorded during my gig at the London Bass Guitar Show in March... I think some of you were there... http://music.stevelawson.net/album/diversion is the album and http://www.stevelawson.net/2014/06/diversion-new-album-out-today/ is a blog post about it. Hope you enjoy it steve www.stevelawson.net
11. thank you! those are wonderful pix
12. those would be great, thank you very much! Flickr would be ideal, then I can just embed them from there so the link goes back to you
13. Hey all, tomorrow I'm releasing the recording of my set from this year's Bass Guitar Show, or at least, the duo part of it with Jon Thorne. Do any of you that were there have pictures from the gig? I've got a couple from FB, but would love to see more if anyone has any. Let me know if you'd be happy with me sharing them around online (with credit intact obviously ) thanks! Steve www.stevelawson.net
14. Hey all, I had a lovely weekend at the bass show - it's one of my favourite bass events in the year, largely because of the group of people it brings together. Getting to hear Lee Sklar would've been worth the cost of entry for the weekend on its own, such an inspiring man and bassist. Was also knocked out by Yolanda Charles and Rob Harris playing drummerless funk on the Elixir stand (who thought that at a bass show the funkiest guy in the room would turn out to be a guitar player? ) It was a real joy and a privilege to play, especially with Jon Thorne having agreed to join me (we got it recorded and it'll be coming out soon, as well as more gigs!) thanks so much to those of you who came to listen, and a MASSIVE apology for saying I'd come out and chat straight away afterwards and then disappearing for 45 minutes... I was grabbed back stage (not literally *grabbed*) and taken away for a photoshoot and an interview straight away... sorry if that meant we didn't get to chat. Hopefully it'll happen at a gig somewhere soon My favourite things of the weekend: Lee Sklar, Yolanda, Shuffler, Mo Foster, Frank Bello, Twinscapes (Colin Edwin and Lorenzo Feliciati) and Chloe Treacher/Kat Bax doing a set of vox/2xbass/drums stuff on the Elixir stand. Lovely arrangements. My only big complaint was the lack of women on the mainstage and masterclass program. Am pretty sure they won't make that mistake again... I didn't spend that much time on the main show floor, though it was great to see more Americans coming over and backing up their own gear - the Aguilar guys are wonderful, as are Rob Elrick, Sheldon Dingwall, Darryl Anders from MXR (who is also an OUTSTANDING player) and the Fodera guys. A big thank you to the organisers and the chaps from MSL/Markbass for their logistical help over the weekend - the backstage crew were fantastic - helpful, resourceful and smiley. Was great to meet some of you from the forum too! Steve www.stevelawson.net
15. Spacechick - Wales is on the agenda for the next tour. Hopefully Cardiff, maybe Swansea! Nugget - email me, we'll sort something out for next time I play round there. Sorry you missed it. Rumple. We'll be back soon London is tomorrow night! Was so great to see a couple of basschat guys last night - Yorks5Stringer, was a pleasure to meet you and Axeman! Steve www.stevelawson.net
16. Hi Sam, yeah, we'd love to play further north - hopefully next time we'll get to spread out a little and play in more places! We nearly had a gig in Manchester, but didn't get sorted in time... soon! Steve
17. Platypus - that'd be great! Hope to see you in London Geoff - thanks very much, the encouragement is massively appreciated. Yo's one of my favourite bassists too, so I get four nights of bass lessons just watching her play. yorks5stringer - that's great! Will be lovely to see you. Please come and say hi! Steve www.stevelawson.net
18. OK, absurdly late notice of this one, but Yolanda and I have got a four date mini-tour of England this week, which starts in Birmingham tomorrow night, at Tower Of Song, then goes to Stourbridge, Axminster and London. Yo's playing with her incredible french drummer Nicolas Viccaro, I'm playing solo and we'll no doubt do a thing or two as a trio Full details are here, with ticket links, maps etc. http://www.stevelawson.net/2013/11/uk-tour-with-yolanda-charles-starts-this-sunday/ Would be really lovely to see some of you. V. sorry for the late notice (really should've posted this months ago!) cheers! Steve www.stevelawson.net

22. Came across this at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt :: http://eshop.amtelectronics.com/effect-pedals-fx/amt-electronics-llm-2-zero-optical-volume-pedal.html Anyone seen one? tried one? know of a place in the UK that stocks them? If the taper is smooth and it's noiseless it's the answer to a whole lot of problems Steve www.stevelawson.net
