1. No brainer Matamp 4 x 10 or multiples of... best tone ever
2.
I bet Crazykiwi really loves it when you call him an Australian. Maybe ask him.
"They all look the same to me"
3.
i want to see the schematic if there actually getting OVER 400watts out of 8 kt88s there must be some heavy duty drivers in this amp!
If my four KT88s kisck out over 300 wouldnt their 8 be able to push well beyond 400?
4. 200W all valve into 2 4x10s masses of headroom and clean tone playing in a five peice band with a fairly loud drummer who is always mic'd through the PA (I don't go through the PA anymore) I have to admit this is the first time in 3 years that I am completely happy with my tone / power... in fact I would go as far as GAS free
5. It's just part of the evening's games isn't it, we usually play about 24 songs through 2 sets plus 2 or 3 encores . We make them work for em, you know "we can't hear you" "are you sure you want another" "We have got to get the half eleven bus you know" Generally consists of upbeat sing along type numbers... Crazy little thing, Brown eyed girl, All or nothing... you know the type To me there is no problem with them as you account for them in the timings of your sets good time to get them to remember how good you were and that they had a real good night and the band played 3 encores for us

AMP GAS!!

Have a blast at a Matamp GT200 if you get the chance... in fac I am taking all my matamp gear down to the bass bash if you want to have a play
8. +1 also for the XL's I used them on my warwick... best of the bunch for my money (I used the 40's)
9. Thanks for the comments guys and sorry for any matrimonial disharmony I may cause It is worth it though... I love just turning up at a gig and knowing that the tone is going to be there without all the EQ fiddling, I just stand it in the corner, set the volume for the soundcheck... job done
10. I understand you don't want a practice amp but I got a Roland bass cube the other week (30W version) and it's suprisingly capable, I understand they do a 100W version too. Give one a try as I use mine for most rehearsals other than the rock band. It has a line out on it, which is one of the reasons I got it... emergency back up
11. Is it just me or does the bass disappear in the mix... all sounds very trebble biased to me I suppose it could be the mic on the camera if thats where the audio is coming from... other than that looked very professional
12. OK I'm fairly new to this bass game so likely to get gazumped by nearly all of you 58 for the 60's/70's/80's covers band 22 and counting for the rock band 15 and counting for the ska/reggae band These are numbers that I would be confident playing on stage tonight if I had to... Probably another 20 or so that I learned purely because I liked the bassline
13. A quick 2 hour rehearsal and dropped off with HUBRAD (Who is a very nice fellow with a very nice fretless Overwater.... drool) My laymans review of the compact to follow shortly
14.
Well then i think thats that sorted... Now, money. I guess i won't be seeing much change from a couple of grand. I think a phone call is in order, but you lot have put me off... it sounds like an aging process.
I shouldn't get too excited about the 400 just yet if I were you... he won't sell anything until he knows it's bulletproof and the last time I spoke to Howard about it they were still trying different transformers. Besides how much volume do you bloody want lol, my 200 is capable of making my ears ring for 24 hours after a good rehearsal.
15. The Specials, Bad Manners or UB40 would have done me fine
16. Well done that man... They really look the mutts nuts those do
17.
Haha, awesome I rang them today about possibly ordering 2 GT200's just going to give Monz's a good ragging tomorrow see how it handles my band
In your dreams oh young one... You wanna rag em you buy em
18. My amp puts out 200W clean into 4 and 8ohms not at the same though obv.
19. I've got one... they are superb. As for standing 2 off 4x10s and a GT200 on top of "2 bits of any old foam" not sure about that one The Auralex is tested to stand the weight (and does)
20.
I have 6
Smart arse
21. What you need is a decent valve amp
22.
was just thinking although i hate to say it there are advantages to big solid state amps, just basically unlimited clean head room and loads of sub, so using one as well as the matamp you'd hopefully get the best of both. thing with valve amps being theres only so much low end you can add before its just all distortion.
Can I ask you what valves you have in your pre-amp as I now have 2 '81s in there and mine does not properly distort until I dial the last click of drive in. We also spent a couple of hours with my amp on the testbed playing with the controls while it was hooked up to the sillyscope finding where the maximum clean sound was and found the presence has a marked effect on power output and where the signal starts to square off, the optimum setting being around the 2 o'clock region. I know this all depends on what goes into the input but it was still 200W clean on a mid frequency and 150W clean at 40htz. PS Love the Harry Patton track
23. My GT200 is putting out 200W clean and well into the 300s running dirty... rest assured unless you play for a noisy EMO band 200W clean is enough to send the front ten rows of the audience home with tinitus * They measure it on a oh-silly-scope at Matamp and admit it's not a perfect measurement but it's close enough PS where are you from? Not the UK I guess
24. OH this one is my nemisis The four note intro to Drive My Car while the guitard is bending the note on the intro... THE BLOODY TIMING ON THAT IS SH*T Gets me every time GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! We played it twice this weekend and I got it wrong both times
