*SOLD* Ibanez High Mass Bridge

Really interesting to learn everyone's experiences with these instruments, with the different views expressed it does tend to point to a 'try some out and find what works for you' viewpoint. There's certainly more love out there for acoustic basses than I would have expected. Worth pointing out to the OP @Johnnyguru that it's wise to have a look what's on sale secondhand acoustic bass wise, as the resale value of acoustic basses is generally great news for buyers and heartbreaking news for sellers. There's always used acoustic basses on sale at good prices that look barely played, on here, eBay or Gumtree.

My most useful instrument by some margin is my Jazz Bass, which I also use to practise on. Each to their own of course, but I've never found acoustic basses to sound very good once you run them through an amp - you have to work hard to not get a thin, clackety tone when you plug them in - most of the ones I've owned or played in my price range have come with a very underwhelming built in EQ and preamp. So what we've got is a bass that is too quiet to be played acoustically with most other instruments and sounds a lot worse (in my view) than an electric bass when plugged in. Doesn't sound that useful when you look at it that way. I would concede that your situation is a more unique one where all your amps are in an outhouse so not so easy to switch on and plug into.

Reopening a for sale topic that has been closed
EdLib-3 posted a question in Site Issues and Questions
Hi there, I would like to re-list this item which I had earlier withdrawn from sale, as it is now back up for sale: It's currently closed to all further replies. Please could you sort this out for me so I can put it back up for sale? Many thanks, Ed -
I sold a set of Schaller tuners to Dave, really great guy and I couldn't have wished for a more pleasant and straightforward transaction. Many thanks Dave, you're a total credit to this forum. Deal with total confidence, people.

I can't disagree with the other posters so far, an acoustic bass guitar will always be the least useful bass you own if you have one, I love mine though - even in the light of its lack of practical application. They are however, useful to have around the house as a practice instrument you can quickly pick up and work through things on. My acoustic bass has the chunkiest neck I think I've ever played so it's a bit like bass gym for my hands and wrists (and I'm a dude with large hands). These are still being made and sold in large quantities by many bass companies despite the fact they're kind of useless, I've always wondered why. Probably because of mugs like me who buy them...😁

These tuners are 4 in-line for a right handed bass, taken from an Ibanez TR200 bass. They're used but in very good condition - just some slight markings from roundwound strings on the string posts ( as pictured in photos). Comes with mounting screws pictured. The price includes postage in the UK only. Payment by bank transfer or PayPal Gift please. Here's my feedback thread:

Putting passive pickups into a bass with an active preamp??
EdLib-3 replied to EdLib-3's topic in Repairs and Technical
Allow me to resurrect this topic with a final update, here's the bass with all the mods completed: The DiMarzio passive pickups went in fine with the bass's active preamp and sound excellent, many thanks for the advice!! I also had some Gotoh tuners fitted to replace the stock ones after the Schallers I bought were too wide in the backplate to fit the headstock. Lastly, strap locks fitted and I did a u-turn and decided to change the stock bridge to a beefy Kluson high mass bridge after all . Plays and sounds way, way better. No longer such an inexpensive bass now... 😬 -

Nice set of PJ pickups recently removed from a 1997 Ibanez TR200 bass. There is a bit of scratching to the plastic of the side casings (especially on the jazz pickup) but overall in pretty good condition and perfect working order. Need a set of inexpensive PJs for a bass build? These could be the ones... Here's my feedback thread: Price includes postage in the UK only, payment by PayPal gift or bank transfer please.

Set of new 4 in-line Fender style tuners in a nickel finish, for a right handed bass: I bought these lovely machine heads new two weeks ago but much to my dismay they are very slightly too wide in the back plate to fit onto the slimmer headstock of my Ibanez bass; they slightly overlap. Unfortunately due to my questionable measurement calculations they are now up for sale whilst I make other arrangements to replace the tuners on my Ibanez TR200 that offend me so deeply on a visual level. Absolutely gutted. Details, specs and dimensions can be found on the Schaller website: https://schaller.info/en/machine-heads/288/original-f-series-bmf They come boxed and with original packaging, unused as they were never fitted to my bass, and with the bushings and mounting screws. Putting passive pickups into a bass with an active preamp??
EdLib-3 replied to EdLib-3's topic in Repairs and Technical
Update: here's the bass in question; it turned up in very good condition and plays very nicely. It's currently having the work done for the mods so this is a 'before' pic. I'll post a better picture (backlit..never good) when the new DiMarzio pickups, Schaller machine heads and strap locks have been fitted. I decided against replacing the stock bridge as it's a pretty decent high mass bridge, I'm really looking forward to ditching those tuners though, they're totally wrong for that headstock and in general an absolute travesty!
