  1. Great book which is part manual of different jazz bass styles and part history of some of the greatest jazz Double Bass players and their technique. Includes a CD with all the examples played that appear as notation in the book. Both book and CD are in great condition. Price includes P & P to mainland UK.
  2. Ed Friedland Jazz Upright Bass DVD including booklet with all the exercises in the DVD transcribed. All in very good condition, £7.50 including P & P in mainland UK only. This DVD is not that suitable for total beginners, better for those progressing towards an early intermediate stage. Ed is a legend though.
  3. Weighs in at around 9kg according to my not totally reliable bathroom scales. Great for metal too..
  4. Jaw droppingly lovely bass but Stingrays without the oval pickguard look a bit wrong (to my eyes at least).
  5. Relisting this as I put the wrong price on first time round, and didn't realise you couldn't edit it once it's posted. 😖
  6. Up for sale is my Bridge Cetus, a stunning instrument that I bought new from Promenade Music in 2018. It has never been gigged or even left my flat, subsequently it is in pretty much new condition. I am selling this with regret as a result of wrist issues that due to an pre-existing condition, are making it very difficult for me to progress on the instrument. Here are the specs taken from the Bridge Violins website: Body: hollow moulded bodyshell, from carbon fibre and kevlar composites Headstock and neck: The neck and headstock are carved from a single maple block. The headstock design is a modified copy of the 1710 Stradivari Viola da Gamba head. The neck is hand coloured and finished with oils, for a fast, smooth, traditional finish. Fingerboard: Ebony fingerboard Machine Heads: brass Tyrolean style engraved brass plate machine heads Nut: Ebony nut. Bridge: The Bridge pick up system is encapsulated within the bridge, designed by Bridge. Tailpiece: ebony tailpiece. Endpin: Basses use an ebony plug, notched steel rod with brass screw and ferrule, and removable rubber protector. ELECTRONICS Bridge Pick-Up System: The pickup system is designed by Bridge and unique to these instruments. It uses a piezo crystal configuration giving an accurate acoustic sound with an even tone. The pickup uses all mechanical movements of the instrument to generate its acoustic sound. Bridge Active Circuitry: has a sophisticated active circuitry dedicated to the frequency range of the instrument, uses a 9V battery giving approx 3000 hours playing time. This bass has a surprisingly natural and woody tone for an instrument with a carbon fibre body, it's the best sounding EUB around in my opinion. You'll notice that the back plate that houses the 9V battery cavity is lined with Blu Tack; this is not to mask a defect, it was done because the back panel is made of light material and vibrated slightly when I played certain notes on the instrument unplugged. This slight buzz was not audible when it was played amplified. Not looking for trades, just a sale please. As you can see, the soft case the bass came with offers little in the way of protection so it's collection only from the Preston Park area of Brighton. The bass comes with the aforementioned soft case, a horsehair German Double Bass bow and some rosin. These basses don't come up for sale very often - this one is in practically new condition, they go for £3,250 new. Come and try it out yourself. Message me with any questions or for additional pictures. Here's my feedback: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/306417-feedback-for-edlib-3/
  7. I refuse to accept that there is no one on this forum who is not aware of, and appreciative of Roy Mitchell Cardenas' work in Mutemath. Just unacceptable. Any love for Roy out there?
  8. I've just gone and ordered this too. Sounds like just the thing to improve the sorry state of my wrists at the moment - acupuncture is not sorting me out for more than a couple of days, then the pain and inflammation creeps back. Many thanks for posting the details! 👍
  9. Great stuff! Didn't know there was a new album. The previous album is an absolute cracker!! Great to hear the Fugazi rhythm section again after so long and Joe Lally's playing is pure understated class throughout. Looks like he's ditched the Stingray in favour of a more polite P Bass tone. The band is brilliant on all fronts - this is what you call a power trio! Thanks for posting. Everyone should take a listen, I'm about to check it out now.
  10. FINAL PRICE DROP: Pedal now £42 including postage in UK. This is a very good deal, if no one's interested at this price I'll probably just keep it.
  11. I too am lucky enough to be able to say I own one of these....and it's a F*@KIN' BEAST!!!
  12. Hi all, I have developed a deep and sharp burning pain in my forearms for the last couple of months when playing the Double Bass. Despite the fact that I am still in the beginner stage of learning the instrument, I have been told by my teacher that my left hand technique looks alright so bad technique doesn't appear to be to blame. I've never been able to practice for long periods on the DB but my hope was that building up short bursts of practice would build the necessary strength to work through and alleviate the discomfort and inflammation; this is not happening. I am not able to practice for more than 15 minutes without having to stop because of the pain. I have been stretching and using massage tools on my forearms but this problems persists and the only way it gets better is if I don't play the DB. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how they have got through it? Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  13. Sansamp Bass Driver DI comes with original box and instructions booklet, this has been stored unused in a box under the bed for quite a few years so should go to someone who can benefit from all the great tone shaping capabilities of this box. The pedal has some cosmetic wear (see photos for paint chips, scratches and scuffs) but works as normal. Come and collect this if you're near to Brighton or I can post within the UK only. Cheers!
  14. In very good condition, excellent pedal for all your fuzz and wah needs in a bullet proof format! Has barely been used due to a change in my band circumstances. Come and collect this if you're near to Brighton or I can post within the UK only. Comes with its original box and instructions. Check out this YouTube video for a good demo of the pedal:
  15. This is funny because I have had pretty much the opposite experience than the OP. Although I no longer own an active bass, when I did and used it for gigs where you're on a bill with other bands and you're using someone else's unfamiliar amp and cab, I always found having active electronics with the cut and boost on my bass much easier to quickly get a decent tone live when you haven't had a proper sound check beforehand. Especially when there wasn't time to properly find a good tone that cuts through, using the aforementioned unfamiliar amp. It was a Stingray bass in case you're wondering.
  16. If you decide to go the Phosphor Bronze strings route you should definitely consider checking out a set of DR acoustic bass strings. Somewhat pricey and difficult to find but I've had a set on my Stanford acoustic bass for about 2 and a half years and after much playing they still sound bloody marvellous! These are by far the best sounding acoustic bass strings I have ever used - so well balanced and full toned. In the past I've tried Elites, D'Addario and Rotosound acoustic bass strings and these DR bad-boys are better than all of them. The quality and longevity you get for the extra money definitely pays off in my experience.
  17. Great stuff, and I concur that is a belter of a bass tone! I'm still loving the Geddy Lee Jazz Bass I bought from you in 2017, Lewis! 👍
