  1. Cold As Ice by M.O.P. I'm not crazy about the song - a pretty unremarkable shouty hip hop track from the early 2000s but that bassline is pretty wild.
  2. Awesomely helpful! Thanks so much. Damn I love Basschat!
  3. Big thanks for all the responses. Whilst having a look on the internet for some information on this I found a post on TalkBass where a guy discusses how he had an active Peavey Randy Jackson signature bass that he had taken into his guitar tech to have the stock pickups replaced with a passive PJ set and his tech had told him it couldn't be done as the pickups already in the bass were active. A lot of the responses were 'all bass pickups are passive'. That's what got me thinking. @linear EMG do a set of active PJ pickups but I notice there is a lot more in the set than just the pickups: https://www.emgpickups.com/pjset.html Once I get the bass I think I'll just run the test as @ikay suggests and see if there is a strong signal. I only want to upgrade the pickups with the ones I already have if possible, I don't want to put a new preamp in, I bought this as a back up bass and am factoring in the import taxes into the overall cost so was just planning on changing the tuners and pickups. Many thanks for all the excellent and useful responses. I'll let you know what the outcome is when the bass arrives. Cheers, Ed
  4. Hi all, I hope everyone is managing to keep healthy and sane during this bizarre lockdown situation. I have a used Ibanez TR200 bass from the mid 1990s on order which has PJ pickups, and the bass is active. Here's the thing: I have a set of DiMarzio DP126 passive P J pickups (my favourites), which I would like to use to replace the stock pickups in the Ibanez when it (hopefully) arrives; however I am unsure if these can go into an active bass. From what I can gather most active basses have passive pickups running into an active preamp but there are some examples of active basses with active pickups. My question is how do you tell if the existing pickups in the bass are active or indeed if passive pickups will work with the bass? Apologies if this is a totally dumbass question but I'm really not that up on technical side of bass hardware. Any help or advice would be most appreciated. Cheers!
  5. Hi there, If I understand the question correctly, they were cut for a 2 on the topside and 3 on the underside type headstock. As per the photo below. All the best, Ed
  6. I have a very lightly used set of D'Addario XL Nickel Wound long scale 5s for sale (gauges 45 65 85 105 135). These came with an Ibanez Gary Willis 5 string fretless I bought new in January and have since sold. As soon as I received the bass I immediately took these roundwounds off the bass and restrung it with halfwounds in an attempt to preserve the ebony fingerboard. I sold the fretless last week as I realised it wasn't my thing, and now have an almost new set of 5 string bass strings but no 5 string bass. The strings come (confusingly) in the packet for the D'Addario Half Rounds strings that were put on the bass in their place, but still have a lot of life in them so I thought perhaps someone on here may want them. £11.50 price includes recorded post to mainland UK only. Here's my feedback thread: Cheers!

  8. Hi the bass has just sold on eBay but thanks for the interest.
  9. Thanks for the super swift reply. I should have thought to look in my junk folder as all the email notifications are in there! I've put Basschat on a non-junk email address list so hopefully that will solve the problem. All the best, Ed
  10. Hi, I've got a problem which I'm not sure how to resolve: since Basschat upgraded the site (when everyone lost their avatars), I have not been receiving notifications by email that I have been messaged. I have checked this and my notifications are still set for me to be notified by email when I am PMed or someone replies or reacts to content I post but I am not receiving email notifications. I used to though. Any ideas on how to sort this out? Many thanks, Ed
  11. I sold a fretless bass book & DVD set to Aidan, easy to deal with, swift payment and a great guy. Highly recommended Basschatter. Thanks dude!
  12. You're very welcome (or indeed anyone who likes the look of this), to come and try it out if you find yourself nearby. The Aguilar pickup and preamp make the bass sound very beefy and responsive. 👍
  13. Here's your chance to learn fretless bass whilst simultaneously marveling at Steve Bailey in his 90s lycra shorts wearing heyday! Both book and DVD are in good condition (please see photos) £8.50 including postage to mainland UK. Here's the product description from the back cover of the book: "Consummate musician and bassist Steve Bailey presents one of the most comprehensive fretless bass technique methods available. Having performed and recorded with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Kitaro, Willie Nelson to Jethro Tull, Steve is a true master of the fretless bass. This book and DVD will help you successfully make the transition from fretted to fretless bass. The exercises within have both studio and live-playing applications and cover such topics as intonation, sliding, string blending, and fretless effects. Develop your ear and left-hand technique using the methodically written examples, which cover intervals as well as triads, then put it all to use in the songs and etudes provided. This book and DVD will help any bassist develop the necessary technique to master this difficult, but beautifully melodic, instrument."
  14. Additional pictures and item details added. This bass is probably not great for metal...Sorry about that.
  15. Hi all, I bought this bass new last month as a replacement for my Double Bass which I had to sell due to wrist problems, however I have subsequently realised fretless bass isn't really for me. This is an awesome instrument with an ebony fingerboard and a maple neck, the body consists of an Ash top with a light and resonant Basswood body. The Aguilar 2 band EQ and Aguilar pickup also sound fantastic. Full details of the bass specs can be found here: https://www.ibanez.com/usa/products/detail/gwb20th_1p_01.html The bass is strung with a nice new set of D'Addario Half Rounds which won't chew up the fingerboard and includes the Ibanez gig bag (pictured) that it came with. The bass is not in perfect unused condition as there are some light markings left by the strings on the fingerboard; as you can see from the pictures these are very slight and the normal string wear marks found on a fretless. There is also some slight finish loss on the neck edge of the ebony - again just slight wear. Other than the aforementioned, the bass is immaculate. I'm looking for a cash sale so no trade offers thanks. I would strongly prefer collection from the Preston Park area of Brighton, so it can be tried out and I don't have to chance sending this by courier in a lightly padded gig bag. However, I would be willing to do a meet up within a reasonable distance from Brighton. Here's my feedback thread: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/306417-feedback-for-edlib-3/ Thanks.
  16. I sold a Bridge Cetus Double Bass to Phil today; all in all it was a very smooth and straightforward transaction. Great guy, and an absolute pleasure to deal with.
  17. NOW ON HOLD: pending the usual sale arrangements.
  18. I sold a copy of John Goldsby's Jazz Bass Book to Hanry; great guy, swift payment, and great communication. A pleasure to deal with.
