1. I enjoy Pete Trewavas, Sean Malone, and Jonas Reingold.....I think they are a good deal bit more interesting than alot of guys who have been mentioned. Their bands, however, were never as big.
2. Before I hit the sack.... Got it from Alan today. Sounds amazing. Took a couple of dodgy photos with my laptop to give an idea of the finished product. Maybe I'll take some with a camera later in the week. I really could not be happier with it. More soon. Gute Nacht.
3. Double Post, but here are some pictures that I haven't uploaded here yet.....obviously I received them quite a while ago.
4. A few months later...... Going to pick it up this weekend. Can't wait. Especially looking forward to it since Alan just emailed me saying "Been playing the bass and I now really have a hankering for a 6 fretless. This is the first time in a long while I have even considered making myself a bass so much did I enjoy playing this one." Encouraging stuff! I'll post pictures in a week or two when I have time to take some
5. Don't bother with "party pieces" really......I just don't see the point. When I am playing originals, I don't want to mar the performance with a silly little solo bass show-off piece, and when I am playing jazz based stuff, sometimes I throw in the odd bass solo, but really, all you need in that situation is a tight groove with some of your own extra/changed notes thrown in. They just don't appeal to me. Doesn't mean to say that it is wrong, though.
6. How much are you looking for each of them seperately? PM me if you like. Cheers, Daniel
7. The only reason 6 strings get looked down upon by people that stereotype bass players that play 6ers is because, as stated above, Leo fender made the first basses with 4 strings. Therefore that became the norm. The amount of strings you use really doesn't matter.....I use 6 strings most of the time, and sometimes a 4 string, but I tend to prefer the 6. I really like the sound you can get from the high C when you pluck it in a slap situation.....really twangy.....
8.
It's the cheaper model which has an ebonal board and cheaper electronics, they're now made with a natural finish and called the GWB105. The real signature model is tons better and is called the GWB1005, that has an ebony board and much better pickup and electronics.
Ahh, totally my bad in that case......I thought they were still in black and only the expensive ones were in natural. My mistake, sorry everyone!
9. Serious? £400 for a bass that retails at over a grand? Looked cheap to me......and in decent condition......ah well, thought I'd throw it up for the craic.
10. This is probably a good link for someone. If I cared enough, I'd buy it and sell it on for a higher price, which some of you might like to do.....or buy it to play, at such a cheap price maybe. Not sure about the reserve etc.... 12. I have a question. I bought an X3Live a couple of weeks ago, and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any way for me to edit the patches using my laptop as opposed to fiddling about with annoying little knobs and the LED display? Do I have to buy Gearbox or something? Edit: Never mind, I have discovered that the patch editor is not available for hte X3 yet. I really wish they would release one...it is tough work and easy to get melted whilst editing a large amount of patches "manually" using the rotary knobs and TINY led screen.....maybe they will, soon. Cheers, Daniel
13. Don't do it. PLay jazz for money instead, it's easy to do (playing crappy versions of standards like St Thomas, Autumn Leaves etc) and in my experience pays better (If you are in a trio, say, Sax, Keys, Bass/Upright, £200 or £250 splits better between 3 than 4 or 5) - Then create your own music in your spare time.
14. Right now, I'm happy with my basses. I have a high end Ibanez fretted 6 string, and have a fretless 6 string under construction by Alan at ACG.......that is all paid for (the money is in the bank, ready to go) so my new GAS stuff involves pedals, another cab for my rig (2x10 at the minute, I think I might add a 1x12 to it) and studio recording gear. Along with an EUB, cello, electric guitar and amp etc. I just bought a POD X3 today - Seems like a great bit of kit, I think I might buy the software (not cheap at £100!) because it'll let me edit settings and patches using the mac, as opposed to a tiny LCD screen. Over summer I think I'll work alot, and hopefully buy some good nearfield monitors, a small sub, and a recording interface, to start my home studio setup..........so many things I would like to get, but it can all wait. There are more important things in life than a hell of a lot of audiophile gear!
15. I sing and play most of the time. I tend not to think about the bassline much, just focus on the vocals, and the fingers usually do the rest of the work. Some of it is fairly complicated (odd time sigs etc) but it is never al over the place syncopation etc..... Singing is great.
16. Basically, I am thinking of buying a pair of monitors, a http://www.focusrite.com/product/saffire_pro_10_i_o/ focustire saffire pro 10 I/O preamp (connected via firewire), and Apple Logic Studio. Now, in terms of using the powered studio monitors to hear everything, can I just plug each of them into an output from the firewire audio interface, or do I need, for example, an SPDIF link from the interface to some kind of monitor preamp/poweramp type thing in order to hear stereo sound through the two speakers? Basically what I am saying, is, can you plug the speakers into any 2 outputs of the audio interface, or is there something else needed to get the sound from Logic to the monitors? Cheers, if I haven't made myself clear, let me know.
17.
Hey Pete... Looks fabulous!
+1870387141
18.
I've grown so impatient for this recently,
I know what you mean, but ah well, it will be worth the wait I don't mind waiting that much actually, although everytime I look at the woods........lol.
19. Thomann have basically made excuse after excuse and after about 7 weeks of waiting/horribly weak excuses I've decided to cancel with them.....but I'm not sure where else I can get the rack ears, people seem to be out of stock? Anyone have any ideas? Cheers.
20. That will look AWESOME once it's been finished etc......looks great....the tones of the woods really contrast in terms of colour.....awesome man....
21. New photographs from Alan. I think it looks great......exactly how I wanted....in terms of the top and how it has all fitted together so far. Thought some of you, especially anyone considering talking to Alan/past customers, would like to see how it is progressing. Can't wait till it is complete.....
22. Update! I'm really really happy with progress so far! Just received an email from Alan, with a couple of great photos. The top has been bookmatched and it has that effect that I thought would look sweet - the light line down the middle. Also the limba, and a picture of the fingerboard. You can see them on the Gallery section of www.acguitars.co.uk Or here.
