1. "...but is it worth it for 1 song?" Maybe not, but surely worth it to own a fabulous bass like the SWB-1 is by all (early) accounts. Hopefully, I'll soon be able to confirm that - watch this space!
2.
Hi Maude, Being of sound mind, I have gone a different route and ordered one of Scott Whitley's SS SWB basses so will put the Rockbass up for sale. Cheers >>>>>>> Chris
Good move Chris! Looking forward to getting mine (passive, ash body plus flight case) in 10 days What have you ordered?
3.
The better half mentioned this tonight. I said it's been an upsetting year for me with all the musicians who's work I loved passing on. I expect a few others feel the same. RIP Glenn.
Spot on
4.
Apparently something like that - from Guitar Player mag 1983 http://www.steinberg...d.com/mktng.htm
Hey, that was an interesting read - thanks cybertect.
5. "L series basses have a strap pivot mounted at the centre of gravity of the bass- no neck dive ever." That's a neat solution - thanks for the info Ed.
6. Another colossus has fallen; gone but never forgotten.
7. Certainly the minimalist solution - but even without a head-stock, that tiny body probably means neck-dive.
8. Hey David, thanks for telling us about the interesting journey you're on. As we all know, it's the journey that matters, not the destination. In my 50 years of bass playing, I've never laid a finger on anything bigger than a 35" scale bass guitar, and always fretted - maybe I should get out more too.
9. How exciting! This sort of imaginative project really appeals to me.
10. That is BEE-OOO-TI-FUL! Yet another occasion when I'm regretting being tied in to shorties...
11. A common mistake EMG - especially on this thread for some reason. Everyone knows that an ideal world would be Fender 34" ONLY and all forms of deviation from the norm would be eliminated
12. Kevvo, I've become a short-scale specialist for similar reasons and the switch has basically allowed me to keep gigging. Although I love all 3 of my current short-scale basses (see below), they are very different from the standard-scale 'norm' - and from each other. The most 'standard-looking/feeling/sounding' one is definitely the Fender Rascal (provided its 9.5lb weight isn't an issue for you). They're still available new at around £600 - a used example would be a great buy but there aren't many out there. Others worth considering would be the Fender Modern Player short-scale Jazz (no longer in the Fender range and pretty rare second-hand) and a short-scale Jaguar (still current I believe). 13. Great job - ten out of ten for ingenuity!
14.
Thanks a lot. I went and posted a build thread
I've already seen it thanks - well done.
15.
If you're talking to me; thanks very much! If you're talking to somebody else in this thread, then I agree with you Lots of lovely basses.
Yes I was talking about your bass - nice job!
16. I absolutely love the look of your bass!
17. Sorry pfretrock, only just seen your post - width at the nut is 41.5mm and 55mm at f12. Fret-board radius is 9.5".
18. Hey Scott, I saw the demo vid you did of your DC with Di Marzio Model 1 neck pick-up / EMG BTC control mods - very nice!! I'll probably do the same when I get round to it. These are really nice basses, although a mint example hung around on this forum for ages at £450 before selling recently.
19. So far, the best bass I've found for offering the short-scale benefits without any of the perceived look/sound/feel disadvantages is my Fender Rascal. The icing on the cake is unusual styling and pup/switching configuration - I really like both. "]http:// Just a bit heavy for me though at 9 1/2lbs. Looking forward to getting the SWB-1 I've ordered from Scott in the New Year
20. That's really nice mate - hope it goes (or has gone, even).
21.
Speaking of G&L, my revelation of the year was dropping an MFD into a Squier Matt Freeman, a sort of poor man's L1000. It easily holds it's own against my other (much more expensive) basses
Now that's my idea of what the perfect bass should look like and if I was 'normal' that's exactly what I'd be playing.
22. "Judging from what I've seen here on Basschat, this would be the bastard lovechild of a Maruszczyk and a Limelight, retro-fitted with an ACG preamp." If a was a 'normal' standard-scale player, I'd agree but being of the 'shorty' persuasion for me the perfect bass of 2015 is the Fender Rascal I got in July (pictured below with its room-mates). "]http:// Hopefully, my perfect bass of 2016 will be the SWB-1 I've got on order from Scott Whitley!!
23. The other nice thing about this topic is that I've got a few handy pics to show the Mrs. next time she complains that my 4-bass collection is excessive
24. Nice - is the rack on castors or some kind of sliders/rails?
