1. Is there a lighter rig out there (that isn't made of spider's webs and magic)? LM II which weighs in at 2.9 kg with an epifani UL110 which is less than 10 kg. You can walk for miles and miles and miles in search of a venue! I use it mainly for backline monitoring for gigs with PA support and for small venues.
2. Hi guys, I'm after a little advice, just to be on the safe side. I have just bought an epifani UL110 cab (wow it small and light yet surprisingly deep!) which I run a LMII through. I gigged it at the weekend and it worked brilliantly as backline monitoring. However, I'm a bit nervous about how much gain I can run through it without damaging the driver. While I have no plans to hit 11 I'd appreciate people's thoughts, if for peace of mind if nothing else. Specs are as follows: The UL110 has a single 10" speaker 250w at 8 ohms (Power Rating: 250w RMS (600w Peak)) and a 100w RMS tweeter. Epifani say the 'suggested wattage is 100w - 500w. The LM II is, I think, 300W RMS @ 8 ohm. Cheers, Johnny
3.
Great! I've been a Bona fan for years too - Seen him about 5 times I think, including in NYC with Mike Stern, that was a hell of a gig. Probably my favourite musician in the world!
Can't agree more with all of the above, Mr Bona is an incredible bassist with a really beautiful voice. I saw him at the 55 Bar in Greenwich Village, NYC with Mike Stern too- tiny little bar, probably my favourite gig i've ever been too. They were playing stuff off Stern's 'These Times' record on which Bona features on vox and bass, and which I strongly recommend listening to. Very friendly guy too, only too happy to chat afterwards. Will have to seek him out closer to home!
4. I have a light weight fold-away trolley, pretty bog-standard which you can buy from any cheap hardware store and it just about does the job. I've used it a lot as I do a lot of gigs around london on public transport. I would recommend getting something which isn't too heavy itself since the last thing you want is to add more weight to what ever it is your handling. That said, there is nothing more stressful than having to cross town with a bass and full rig being uncertain that your wheels won't buckle and having to stoop because the old ladies it was designed for aren't the height of your average bass player. Its a tricky one, but, since traveling and loading in and out are generally low points in any gigging experience, all in all I think trolleys are well worth investing in, and they smell less than roadies too.
5.
Quick bumpage .......... I dropped in and had a look at this bass down at the Gallery, and I have to say that it looks totally amazing in the flesh - absolutely oozes quality from every pore (should do considering what they cost new I suppose!). What's more it is a total dream to play, with a fabulous feel to the neck. If I could afford this instrument I would buy it. It's the sort of bass that you are secretly thinking of whilst making love to your girlfriend!
Haha, thanks for the bump- have you met my girlfriend...?
6. Thanks for the interest, this is still available and currently at the gallery.
7. I went to see this one last week- it is a reissue apparently of a '66 although I'm not up on my fender production dates- I think it was made in the late 80's. I decided not to buy it since the condition wasn't as excellent as advertised- a few dings in the neck and a large crack in the lacquer, plus rust on the screws and hardware generally- looked like it'd spent some time outside! As well as that it needs a good set up as the action is pretty high and when you factor all that in it seemed like less of a bargain! Will make a nice bass for someone though!
8.
I really wish I could justify buying this bass, it's such a beauty!
Er for justification, please see my words of financial wisdom above... to save you scrolling I'll quote: "There is a credit crunch people, my advice to you is to sell your homes and buy gold and/or quality spector bass guitars!" Did I mention these things have gold hardware? Perhaps not a solid gold bridge- but put it this way, can you slap an ISA?
9.
Suspicious bump from totally non-affiliated character
Cheers Josh! Still available but now in the company of many other excellent basses at The Gallery in Camden. If you're going in give it a play and let me (and others) know what you think!
10. I have the very same Ibanez and reckon its a pretty excellent price! The neck makes it a brilliant guitar to learn 5 string on. Good luck with the sale!
11. Still available- open to offers! Cheers, Johnny
