My fingers are starting to look a bit misshapen, particularly on the the left, fretting, hand. However no serious pain, more an ache, as yet. I can still play as good, or bad, as ever. I’ve been taking calcium and vitamin D tablets for a couple of years but apart from stronger finger nails I haven’t notice any difference. I do have a pair of those magic gloves but rarely wear them.

I do notice they feel better in the summer months and that is probably due to warmer weather and salads with Extra Virgin Olive Oil dressing.
My wife is more seriously affected and has been for several years. She takes turmeric capsules but again it’s difficult to judge any effectiveness.
She has recently started taking collagen powder and her hair has thickened up considerably. I just mention that in case anyone is interested.

Turmeric works better if it has black pepper aka circumin added to it

  2. I think you should learn some theory, it makes it easier to understand what’s going on and to discuss music. I don’t think you need to learn to read music, I can just about though quite slowly. Learning that much hasn’t hindered me in any way. You already learned to read a language way more complicated than music.

Well, Wings didn't contribute anything to the progress of music (and they were shit). The Beatles did have some influence on their peers and successors, however you rate their own music. Some of their influence was negative, though, such as people thinking that the wretched Hofner violin bass was not only playable but even good. Poxy things.

How come you get to use profanity?
glad I’m not the only one who didn’t think much of wings.

  4. I’m sorry …# heresyalert I just don’t think the Beatles were all that and all the descendant bands were a bit meh…I’m not saying they were not musically talented, just more the sum of the parts than the whole

This thread has been far too inactive.

Can anyone remind me of what the "normal" thinking is re:strings for a 32"?

I can't remember if I can buy standard long scale ones or if short scales fit or if it's even more niche than that...

    Read back to @Lozz196

Guitar music was on the way out.

Well, true, that took until the new millennium, but on the way out non the less...

Agreed, both were still sh1t though

And if @Geek99 is run over by a Maserati test driver while hitchhiking through Italy, disguised as a nun to evade intepol, on the way to make his purchase...?

Silly jokes aside - it is a thing of beauty.

I assume that you’ll be dressed as Mother Superior (not much change there then) in order to lull me into a false sense of security. It’s a disguise for me but a lifelong habit for @Richard R

The finishing is ...finished.  This is 100% prototype, so I've not too worried about imperfections.  Both the french polish and the Osmo I think have worked nicely.  I'll do a proper write up on the finishes another day.  There's still a bit more setup to do.  Albeit with only a tiny amount of curve in the neck there's no fret buzz, so I may not bother fret levelling, they're level enough already.  And the neck joint I designed to have shims inserted to dial in the correct bridge height, but again it's pretty much spot, none needed. There was a lot of new stuff for me in this build, including a pretty complicated neck joint, so to have the geometry all line up is really satisfying.  The nut and saddle need work, and there's a bit of tidying here and there, but mostly it's done.  I'll try taking some proper photos not under the clinical lights of the workshop, but here it is warts n all:

I don’t see any actual warts. So if I have notice that @Frank Blank has accidentally cut his head off whilst shaving and then fallen out of a nine floor window, I mean just supposing… can I then be on pole position to relieve you of this immense burden ?

Yep, instinctively I feel as though phosphor bronze isn't right.  But it's probably worth at least giving them a go.

And Chromes could be a good choice.  Even the 40-95s are significantly higher tension than tapewounds though.  And until it's been strung up a while with something lower tension, the additional tension of the Chromes worries me a bit.  But it wouldn't surprise me at all if they aren't the final choice.  Or La Bella Flats as @Frank Blank suggests.  I think I've got some Deep talkin tapewounds  - does anyone know if they have blue silks?

I found bronze a bit zingy and bright

Yeah, it's been a search that has lasted at least 6 years and led me down many blind alleys.  So pleased to be able to have the bass back in the stable.

You keep it in a stable ? It’s not a guitar, it deserves better than being p1ssed on by horses

    Hello all,

Does anyone have or know the whereabouts of my old Fender Precision? It's a long shot (I sold it about 13 years ago), but have missed it ever since. Its got pretty distinctive markings and I have the serial number too.

    More photos available if needed

Any info would be much appreciated!

No problem, let me book myself into a hospital to have all my good taste, common sense and aversion to bling removed :)

    Give me a few days.

But if you make them bright enough you’ll be able to see your bass from space and how cool would that be?
