It sounds like Big Country, all it needs is that bagpipe guitar sound they used to have.
The one they used really sparingly ? And only where it really added an extra something ?

I do physics. Can you please produce a diagram showing the various forces at work prove they cause ski-jump.
enough already.
I’m unfollowing my own thread. Sadly @neepheid was incorrect.

I meant really all the intense arguments about physics.

There’s a thread on it, but this is somewhat beyond the scope of my original topic

I had ski jump in an unshimmed neck, it does happen

How much "relief" i.e. bend is there in the neck? You might find that tightening the truss rod to straighten the neck will bring the action down significantly.
It’s set to fender spec
ill try a full pocket shim

The neck and body aren’t from the same place so I expected a bit of trouble -
probably neck pocket isn’t shallow enough and it’s original neck was thinner

I’ll get sone pictures tonight. There’s a tiny bit more drop to go but not enough to make things right.

They started late and they knew it. They started earlier this time, which is why i
missed my drummer jam spot

Help … the saddles decked out and the action isn’t very low. I’ve set neck relief, intonation and checked nut height
do I need a full pocket shim? It’s a squier p bass
thanks

I went but they started early and I didn’t get chance to jam with drummer. Did chat to singer from train wreck night though and also a potential new member

I’m going again tonight, it runs every two weeks. I’ll try and play with the drummer before it starts and see how it goes

James Jamerson - his action was more than the thickness of a credit card. Can’t setup a bass properly? Should have had his fingers chopped off!
He used to play double bass and had strong hands. I don’t think a bass players preferred config is sufficient justification for not getting their music imho

Coalville is a bit rubbish for this, which is why I generally refer to it as coalvile

So has all the beating yourself up led to your prospering? All the "drive" in the world is no substitute for ability. If you are making basic errors at jam sessions, the answer is practice, practice and more practice, not giving yourself a hard time. In my experience, people who say "I'm hard on myself" often use it as justification to be unpleasant to others.
Kids … house … job

If only that were true. Many of the most successful people I know have the right contacts and bucketloads of self-confidence, which quite often has little relationship to their abilities...!
Perhaps but I consider it less likely that they will succeed versus someone with drive

I realise that this may not be particularly helpful, but just more of an observation that trying to compete with people who are playing extremely loudly when they're not at Woodstock / Isle of Wight is extremely hard and not usually a lot of fun. So it's another reason not to be too hard on yourself in my opinion.
I’m always hard on myself. People content with mediocrity rarely prosper

What helped my confidence at the local jam night was to learn a couple of the songs that the house band played the week before, and then played those whilst the house bass player took a break the next week. Then we’d did a couple that I knew, and the house band also knew
the thought of jamming on stuff I have never heard, or following charts etc fills me with dred!
See that didn’t bother me. I played bass behind an acoustic guy who it turned out disliked bass and he wouldn’t even tell me he was playing next. When I worked it out I quickly googled the chords and made something up. Winging it is actually something I’m good at
