1. i have plates to sell, with a thick layer of celluloid. I'm using one myself now on my own P bass. Apparently they fit a US and MIM perfectly according to reports from basschat members, and fit a VM pretty well too. See the pictures below that they have kindly taken the time to post. dark brown early 60s style or later-style mid brown NB There is a sheet of plastic film on them, but you can see the depth of the top layer. £16.50 each plus postage at cost (2.95) I'm happy to use BACS or Paypal, but would appreciate not getting fees I have a few dark brown Jazz plates with screws, that Norris was kind enough to try on his MIM jazz for me (I don't own one any more) - he said they fitted fine. £18 for those, with screws Ead advises me that whilst very pretty, they do NOT quite fit the '96 MIK Squier 50th Anniversay Bass as the original is very slightly larger. I'm happy to send you one on a Fit or Return basis, provided that you send it back in the original state. thanks
2. I realised that i found guitar a bit boring and I noticed how people reacted to bass.
3.
That's why I have both types of bass, a Jazz and a Precision.
Nice one centurion!
4.
Despite being an old git I quite like a bit of Grime
All grime is illegal where we work, all is shiny and new
5.
Just put a random word in front of 'Metal' and there'll be a band that plays it..
Badger metal never really took off then ...
6.
I thought the best violins were made in Cremona ?
Stradivarius and co had their workshops there
7. I'd tell them to get stuffed, unless you're busy telling them what kind of drums to play ?
8.
Flats are not really expensive ..(initially...yes..).. when you consider that they can last for up to ten years...longer in some cases.
the fender ones arent even expensive - longevity notwithstanding. I paid £14 on amazon for 7250 flats .
9. Fender flats are cheap on smazon and I recommend them
10. I reliced mine and it went well, I didn't touch the hardware as i didn't want to affect the functioning. I rounddd the board edges and the pup cover, all positive changes So what was the result ? My music loving friends (not musos) say it looks cool, people at OM come over and ask to look at it. Kids love it. And that's the point if it as far as I'm concerned; it raises the profile of the electric bass guitar
11. most welcome.
12. i may just set up an ebay alert...
13. Now I really /do/ like that
14. Yes quite cheap also
15. I really really like relics, especially if they have parts like underside of the upper horn that no one can quite believe would relic naturally Phew - NOW we are back on track Has any of the naysayers thought that maybe the grain would pop the paint there (and in other non obvious places ) through expansion and contraction, rather than wear ? Adam Claytons 73 P has paint loss there on that horn
16. They are very "clicky" too
17. I've tried regular electric strings on an electro acoustic and they sound far too bright
18. It's that a metal flake finish ?
19. Coke is good for the can's metal

21. can someone please pass the popcorn ? This topic will run and run and I may be here for some time. Its lucky we never discuss relicing and its relative merits (or not) so it could be an enlightening debate
22.
Personally I don't like relicing but I think a naturally worn bass increases a players credibility no end.
That's one bass that I really like the look of.
23.
But IIRC the "wear" pattern is exactly the same on all the Flea Jazz Basses which doesn't makes them unique at all ;-)
It's like they were all made in a factory or something
24. i have a fake relic and I've done some of it myself. I rounded the neck edges and sanded the back down a bit and its a lot more comfortable to play. I refuse to baby a bass, it s a tool and I'm not going to wrap it in cotton wool. As long as I don't damage its working parts I really dont see why its a problem to have it look a certain way.
25.
This morning I heard a radio ad. Declaring EBay as the place to sell your old stuff to clear a bedroom. So maybe that business model is getting shaky? I always thought eBay was good for selling nationally and Gumtree for sellimg locally. This weekend I put up an electronic piano on Gumtree. Folk were calling from up to 70 miles away!
I had someone drive all the way from Tooting to the yorkshire border to buy something, On a friday night. In heavy rain. In principle however, I would agree with Mr G. Its very noticeable how the bargains have dropped off, I was doubting my sanity and thinking I'd been missing them,.
