I must be (almost) alone in not hating [i]any [/i]bass player really. There are people that I think aren't really lighting my candle (eg Jaco/Wootten with all the widdling) but thats about as far as I get down that road. It doesnt matter if its demanding or not, if people [i][u]like it [/u][/i]then your work is done. If they get up and dance, its gold-star time. I spent three songs at an OM night playing root/(3rd)/fifth patterns as my regular partner had chosen some fifties/sixties songs that he liked (Cash, Berry, Elvis etc) and the crowd went [i]totally [/i]mad for it. [b]Thats [/b]why I play bass**, whats your reason ? Would they have liked it more if I had woven some intricate pattern of harmonics around the simple tunes? I suspect not. [size=3]** that and the fact that sunburst P basses look totally cool, in my humble opinion [/size]

I haven't bought a new or used instrument in a shop for years. I bought an Aria Magna 5 in Nottingham many years ago and that was the last one. They just just don't feel right unless I built or commissioned it. My Bass Doc P is the right one, shiny instrument syndrome doesnt happen for me. .

It's like "one lady owner" on a car sale, it kind of depends- you can't realistically have any expectations about what actual state it will be in, neglected or fine, gigged but battered or gigged but cared for and perfectly setup

Bob Babbitt specifically stated that the "mock contracts" were often wrong, and often didnt reflect whose take was actually used. He recalled arguing with Jamerson in a bar when a song they'd both recorded a part for came on, about which of them was actually playing the final version. The residuals were based on the contracts and so they are only a guide at best. I'd prefer to go with the actual living memory of people who were physically there (where more than one is saying the same thing as Ck seems a bit inconsistent at best), and it seems a little unfair to lay claim to a whole canon of work when your protagonists are both dead Since CK is a pick player,and Jamerson and Babbitt both used fingers, it should be fairly easy to tell their styles apart ?

Jameson was drinking heavily in California and Bob Babbitt says no one really knew whose take had been used even then as the contracts for each track were often wrong - I can't see how forty years would add clarity
