  1. Bought strings from Andrew. Arrived very quickly in great shape. Deal with confidence!
  2. Dear musicians, here's a good way of how to wind up a sound engineer: please spontaneously inform them, preferably after the show, that they are 'also a part of the team'.

And I thought the stage magically sets itself up each night; the console automatically mixes the show, adjusting on the fly for poor microphone technique / crappy instrument sounds of varying volumes; and the monitors just happen to give you back something useful???

  3. Just wondering if anybody might like to trade USA Jazz fretless neck (2011 I think) for an identical fretted neck. the fretless neck is in great shape, it has always had flats on - so almost no fingerboard wear. Dots in between fret markers, no fingerboard inlays photos on request! will consider trades for USA fender or Graphite replacement necks only
  4. Mark bought a job lot of mic stands from me, and collected in person. Nice guy and very easy transaction. deal with confidence!
  5. Bought strings from Frank, all good. Thanks!!
  6. Having tried Seymour Duncan, Emg, Lindy Fralin, Dimarzio etc, I would recommend Bare Knuckle. For Jazz basses, they make two versions - more vintage HF (heavy formvar) and more modern PE (plain enamel). think Jaco for HF and Marcus Miller for PE.
  7. When faced with a similar issue as the OP, i did use the John East module, wiring it in series, after the original 2 band eq. It worked fine, but to be honest, if you are going to go that route, you might as well get a new 3 band preamp. I’ll explain why... 2 band preamps tend to be voiced differently to 3 bands, eg frequency centre and Q value of boost/cut (ie how smooth it is, or how far it extends). Generally, for 3 band; bass/treble EQ’s are a bit narrower in the frequency ranges they affect and frequency centres are pushed further apart - so that there is less overlap with the mids control. Given the effort in moving the controls around, rewiring the circuit, finding a mids module you like... much easier to go with a 3 band preamp!
  8. You should be fine going with a (much) longer speaker cable. At the kind of cable lengths you are talking, I can’t see a cable length increase affecting the amp’s ability to drive the speakers. I doubt you’d notice much of difference until you start going to 3 digit cable lengths in metres... I don’t think the amp being Class D makes a difference here (other than that the headroom / volume constraints you referred to)
  9. Congratulations on your new bass IMO the classic Spector rock tone is achieved via combination of 2 things : (active) EMG pickups and fresh round wounds... plus the Spector bass of course! Is there something you feel is missing from the existing tone of your bass? You may find active pickups provide you with the biggest upgrade potential, via added punch / more hi-fi sound - but only if that’s something you may feel is missing from the HZs. EMG BTS should be a fine, clean preamp, so I’d probably leave it. Personally I prefer EMG P/J combination to the EMG DC humbuckers, but depends on what you like... but I cannot overstate the importance of fresh strings to get the Spector growl!
  10. Will consider offering just the stands CASE free of charge - in which case, I will then be happy to sell stands individually.
  11. 20 years’ worth of Sound on Sound magazines. Some creasing but perfectly readable. originally given to me by another BC member, now time to pass them on. everything you wanted to know about audio engineering and production but were afraid to ask! FREE to a good home, must be collected

  13. Just in the process of a house move, free to a good home leather - pull out sleeper sofa. Cover material cracked and would ideally need reupholstering or covers. Mechanism fine
  14. Case dimensions 1.4m (L) x 60c (W) x 58cm (H) No easy way to weigh it accurately, so as an estimate: each stand probably around 3kgs (so that’s 48kg), plus spares (?6 kg?), plus the case itself (? 40? This one is more of a guess, never tried lifting it whilst empty!) so probably 90kh total as a ball park, though may be more if my case weight estimate is wrong. It has wheels so only need to lift one side at a time, but should be liftable by two people off/onto a van or large car (I can help at this end). fyi Encore PA had postage quoted at £45 when I bought the case and stands from them
  15. Top quality analog xlr snake, 24 sends and 4 returns. All lines working. made by Horizon - rrp was £1200! looking for just £100, collection only from RH1 Redhill, or meet halfway for Petrol cost
