1. This was used as the theme tune for the Robbie Vincent show on Radio London in the late 70s/early 80s. http://youtu.be/rA-hcDR6q2o
2. Great record. I bought this the day it was released in Summer 1982. It was an important record as far as hip-hop goes because it was a hit and was one of the records that brought hip-hop to the masses. It was also a time of political unrest and uncertainty and a time of protest the likes of which we don't see any more and it fitted in perfectly with the mood of those times.
3. This is a good one from the 70s..... and another..... http://youtu.be/8ChKPEKMw74
4. Don't worry kids cos the Kojak theme ain't all that anyway. On the other hand this is synth soaked cheeseville USA....... http://youtu.be/PzAJ5P97MsA
5.
WTAF.....right that's it i'm off..... (picks up music stand and leaves)
Sorry i had to be the one to break the news.
6. Hold on kids!!!!!!!!! The version in the op is NOT the original TV version. It is a version by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

8. I can imagine what being trapped in a lift at Smooth FM must be like now.
9.
Technical side aside, I think the production during a certain period was incredible including the 80s , almost like every minor piece of percussion or bass ghost note sat exactly right and not clashing with anything else, and was meant to be there. This is the opinion of a consumer not a pro. A bit before the 80s but like this ...
That's because this was arranged and produced by someone who knew what he was doing having spent years in the music business before making it as a solo artist. This has the Barry White stamp all over it. Just listen to those strings. P.S. I'm just playing a vinyl copy of that Gloria Scott LP at home and the production is just fabulous.
10.
Perhaps the OP should change the title of the thread to 'Recommend me some stuff in the style of Rock Candy Funk Party' if it has to be as narrow as that.
Excellent idea.
11. It might be worth reading post #14 before everyone just lists their Funk favourites.
12.
Sigh.... this is Funk. There's so much more.....
You're so right about there being more than three of them.
13.
I class them as a bit funky.... It's hard to categorise them I suppose. .. What I suppose I actually meant was can you recommend me more music in the style of Rock candy funk party
Yes they are slightly funky but definitely not a Funk band. Funky and Funk are two different things. Don't worry though as they couldn't seem to work that out in the BBC documentary about Funk that was on a couple of weeks ago either.
14. This is FUNK........... http://youtu.be/aBkVV9xxCHE
15.
I maybe didn't mean jazz funk then. ..probably more just funk. ... anything of that vibe was what I meant
Funk it is then but that's a million miles away from Rock Candy Funk Party who don't seem to have a funky bone in sight to me.
16.
yeah probably right. . Whatever genre it is I love it
It's Funk
17.
https://www.youtube....h?v=co3FzW89EpY How about this
That is not Jazz Funk
18. That's funny because i always hear barking on this..... http://youtu.be/k3-1Of-dBIg
19. I had to take Dark Side Of The Moon back to the shop where i bought it many years ago because of the awful sounds i could hear on it. Turns out there was nothing wrong with it.
20. I wouldn't say that RCFP are Jazz/Funk more like just doing what Steve Morse and loads more were doing 30+ years ago. Jazz/Funk is a different thing altogether.
21. It's fashion. Simple as that. Soon everyone will want nice shiny guitars and basses without a mark on them until that fad wears off and the fashion changes yet again. Stick around long enough and everything comes round again.
22. I thought i heard someone shout 'I wanna hear caravan with a drum solo' on a Frank Zappa record once.
23. Barre Phillips, Palle Danielsen, Barry Guy and Jean Francois Jenny-Clarke are four major figures in jazz. I assumed (wrongly) that everyone would have heard of them who goes on a double bass forum.
