1. Well sort of. Some place has more than 10 of them in stock and you can click and collect and pick 'em up at Argos next week. Is this the new way forward to bypass that much maligned waiting time for Barefaceds? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Barefaced-Retro-Two-10-2x10-Bass-Amplifier-Speaker-Cabinet-Brand-New-/221820708433? ..... or is this old news and you all know this already?
 2. i think the guitar tone she gets from her Tele and her Jaguar is total amazeballs. I'm sure she's not technically the best at anything, but she's fresh and entertains me.
 3. She looks cool. She sounds cool. What's not to like? Does anyone else thinks she looks a bit like Russell Crowe? Haha. That's cool too. Looking at her online stuff, she often plays a Tele too ..... which as you know, is a winning situation.
 4. I love everything about this. Cool girlie singer/songwriter/guitarist and great bass sound. He gads about with a funny Gibson bass that sounds good too sometimes. I Shazam'd the end credits to the Grand Prix on Sunday and discovered this artist. Me likey. I say have less Miley and more of this. (why does the youtube fing not work?)
 5. I love the sound of Ashdown amps - but I've never been that sold on their speakers. Lots of pros seem to use them though - so maybe it's just me. MiBass 220 and 550 heads are good.
 6. I have reached an answer of sorts. Some very good help here BTW in getting where I need to be. There are two main things that I have concluded. 1. I need to find "my sound" in an ideal environment using all of my cab and amp combinations, note the settings, and make sure that I use that as a starting point when I get to a gig. Like most conclusions, this part is not rocket science is it? Just basic common sense! However, I've taken the extra step of writing all of that down and keeping a copy in my amp case (plus on my phone of course) just in case I forget. If I need to tweak for the environment, I can at least start from a stable and consistent base. 2. It's about cab choice for the gig. I'll use one of the Retro Two10s or the Compact alone for smaller gigs, and either both of the Retro Two10s or The Retro Two10 / Compact combination for larger gigs. I know, by now you're thinking my specialist subject on Mastermind should be "The bleeding obvious". I have the advantage of being able to use a van for most gigs - so I can have the space to take two cabs and decide on one, the other or both when I get there. I think the problem I had with being asked to turn down that other time was 'a cab thing'. When I drive the cabs hard, the mojo appears. When I hardly bother them, it's not so good. So it may look good having a stack of mean cabs - but if I must have the stack, then I'll only plug in the ones that I need. All of the above worked 100% over the weekend in two separate rehearsal studios and in our basement at the weekend. PS: I discovered that I can use all three of my Barefaced cabs at the same time. A serial cable connecting the 2 x 4 Ohm Retro Two10s (giving 8 ohms), with another cable leading to the 8 Ohm Compact is like having two 8 Ohm cabs in parallel (giving 4 Ohms). That's what my dad's bass player told me anyway and he set it up in the basement for me like that. OMG - the sound from all of that at full chat using an RH750 at full on was terrifying and bliss at the same time. Can't imagine a situation where it could be used though.
 7.
Well everyone is talking about him...
Yep. It was an event. Huge news the next day. Loadsa lovers, loadsa haters. That's what music is supposed to be about. Glasto 2015 was Kayne. Proper.
 8. Kanye smashed it. The haters ain't ever gonna "get it". Pure Kanye last night. Just him in the light. Piled on all of the hits right from the gun. Loved it. This is music 2015 style.
 9. Twitter has just about melted and it's mainly positive.
 10.
It isn't - it's just having an amp that can do the amount of power you need for a full note length. With some of the optimistically specced Class D amps you might need a '900W' amp whilst a Class AB that can do its 300W continuously might have similar heft and loudness. But it isn't the Class D or Class AB thing that makes the difference, it's the power supply. The iAmp 800 was Class D with a traditional power supply. The Markbass LM2 was Class AB with an SMPS.
Haha. This is a hint that Alex's proposed new bass amp might NOT be Class D.
 11. Would it be fair to say that ....... I'm at the start of my learning curve of playing bass. I may consider myself a dead-eyed slam-dunk diva demon of the Precision itself, but there are a lot of other things I've got to learn? I had an easy ride at first, as my first few gigs were with a sound man who set up everything for me - and then those settings worked fine for the next coupla gigs. But now, having to set up by myself using different cabs and heads and different stages and different gig sizes means I need to do lots of homework. Find what works with what cabs/heads/basses in different type of surroundings, what tweaks to make - and also learn what emergency shortcuts I can take if ever needed. I'll get out the notebook, put a pencil behind my ear and get to work.
 12.
I must of been lucky, my 2014 gibson sg bass is faultless, altho i will never ship a bass over from the states again.
Nope..... you can't leave me hanging ........ why would you never ship a bass over from the States again?
 13.
I was actually referring to the new barefaced range of Active Cabinets which can also double as PA cabinets
Aha. Well in that case, let me tell you something! My dad borrowed some of these from Alex for an anniversary function doo that he and his band played a few months back. I wasn't allowed to play, but I was there and helped the sound man ..... and the cheeky lot nicked my two Retro Two10s for the gig. It's sort of karma though, as I nick all of their stuff usually. They played the first set with everything mic'd up via the two Barefaced PA things comprising:
AC30

A Mesa M6 through my 2 x Retro Two10s

Kick

Snare

Overhead drum mike

3 x vocals

Quite an impressive Yamaha keyboard array thing (only for a few songs).
Then they played the second set, with just the vocals and the drums mics. No keys involved in 2nd set. It was a medium sized hall packed with about 200 people. They had the advantage of having to be able to set up all day AND they have their own sound tech riding the sliders throughout. I have to say the PA speakers were fab. Like having two massive big home stereo speakers blasting out at you. No distortion, everything clear as a bell and nice and loud. Mind you, I preferred the 2nd set sound. Not coming through the PA made the Tele and AC30 sound more like ..... well a Tele and an AC30 rather than just a well mixed guitar. Also, the Retros Two10s with the Mesa were to die for. Much better coming out by themselves. I couldn't really say that the sound was better balanced and dispersed in the first (all PA) set than it was in the first. The guys in the band said the sound mix (for them) was spot on for the first set - but the second it was more "chaotic" - but they thought the 2nd set was fun. Can't see an application for my band though - we have a PA and we rarely have a sound man/woman - so would be too much for us to set up on our own.
 14.
Oh if only there was a solution where using a PA speaker type set up
If only you had bothered to read one of my earlier posts!
 15.
Undue snark IMO, everybody in the band starts the gig slightly reserved and nervous, then a few songs in it's starting to flow, everyone gets into it and starts digging in and/or turning up to keep up with the increasingly excitable and invariably gurning drummer. Happened in every band I've ever been in to varying degrees, been regularly gigging for over 20 years.
Many humble apologies. ..... although, to be fair, if you are familiar with the Sherlock Holmes books, you have followed his pattern of finding a logical reason by thinking laterally and making a conclusion. Thank you. I'll factor that into my thinking.
 16.
It seems you sound check at a different volume level to the gig.
How do you work that one out Sherlock?
 17.
Yep, turn the bass control right down. Or off. Most amps have the bass frequency control set around 60-100hz and you just don't need it. All it does is muddy everything up, drown out the bass drum and make it harder for everyone to hear what they're doing. It'll take a few goes to get used to it but you'll love it once you realise that you can hear absolutely everything and when people stop asking you to turn down!
This sounds good and might be a winning reply - but I won't know until I've gone home tonight and tested it.
 18. For example, I had a problem the other day when the bar manager came and asked us to turn down 1/3 of the way into our set. Oh how I hate that. I've seen this referred to on here before. She was happy with the plentiful sound check and gave us the thumbs up for that. But then comes out four songs in and asks us to turn down. I went from kickass bad girl growl to dull beardy geography teacher in corduroys mush. Not very punk. I guess I'm going to do some homework and have a play with the rigs I have and note the growl like a ninja EQ settings for each volume level - and when I'm asked to turn down in future it'll have to be more than just a turn of the volume knob ....... and that's not taking into account the variations in environment from gig to gig. Haha. Welcome to the craft of bass playing I guess. PS: I'm a dozen gigs in to playing in pubs etc. I've only used PA support and bass through the monitors once and didn't like it. To be fair, the places are never really big enough to require PA support - and I like the punchy feel of backline with just vocals and kick via the PA.
 19.
Who's telling you, your bandmates or your audience? steve
I play wireless. And I always get out in front during the sound check and I can understand - even though I like a bass-heavy sound - that it's a bit tooooo heavy. I think I'd be better running a smaller amp harder. There seems to be an area in my amps, below three on the dial, where the sound looses its guts.
 20. I have a bit of a problem with volume. I play in three different bands and I keep being told that I'm too loud. I generally play either an RH750 or an RH450 through a Barefaced cab or two. Trouble is, I have to play so low down the volume dial, I don't any guts out of the amps. I'm thinking of using a lower powered amp that I can whack up more - run it at 7 or 8 or so. Does that make sense? What about a MiBass 220 or a BH250, Mag 220 etc I'm generally talking small to medium pubs. Would one of the above cut it?
 21. Funny, I didn't get much interest in this - other than a number of low-ballers. Mind you, market forces. Funny though, I've played it loads in the meantime and sort of love it now. So, withdrawn, My USA Standard Telecaster. Bought brand new in Jan 2014 as an 18th birthday present for me - bought never really taken outta the case much in all of that time. Never been out the house, only played a few times ah home I’m too attached to my CS Tele to play this one - so it’s gotta go. It’s one of the latest models with the Fender Custom Shop Twisted Tele neck and Custom Shop Vintage-Style Tele bridge pickups. The necks on these latest American Standards are really cool too. Modern C shape with rolled edges. Makes it really nice to play. If you were thinking of buying a new Tele - this will save you £400! It’s virtually brand new. Still has the sticker and cellophane on the pick guard. Just seems a shame it not doing anything. It's one of these.
