1.
Plus 2 to all of that. HR16, what a brilliant sounding unit, SR16, size of a book, £50, buy it.
The HR16 was ace! I had mine chipped which made it even better. The sounds were superb.
 2.
Now it has been mentioned, I've been considering a drum machine for a while now, mainly for practice but also for some recording. Would the SR16 fit the bill? I know it's a pretty old design, but it must also be pretty good to still be in production.
It's perfect for both. It really is a great drum machine. I love mine.
 3. Tried the Hi-Beams but i don't like the feel and tension, and they seem to lack the bottom end of the Black Beauties which I'm going back to. Lovely strings.
 4. Thanks for your help, guys. Cheers.
 5.
Use Vaseline.
Thanks mate, that's what I was thinking. I use vaseline on old fishing reels and it's perfectly fine. BTW, I got mine from the States on ebay and paid £40, no duty paid either. Bit of a bargain do you think? 6.
Alesis SR 16 any good? I've got one I don't need now as I'm running a PC based app instead. It's in near perfect condition and cost me £50 a couple of months ago
The SR16 is designed to be used live as well as in the studio. It should be all you need, great sounds and many of them, and is very user friendly. I've used them for years, had the original HR16 aswell. It should be exactly what you need, Chris. £50 for an SR16 with box and manual and in very good, fully working condition is the right price.
 7. I just got a Hipshot Gotoh GB-7 and I have yet to install it. The instructions mention using Lithium Grease. Do I really need it? Is there an alternative if I do? Are there any common instalation problems? This will be going on my Warwick Corvette. Cheers all, Nigel
 8. American Standard 4, because I played one a couple of weeks ago and it blew my socks off. Lovely bass. I played a very nice 79 fretless conversion the same day and it was nice too, but just didn't have the same class.
 9. Stunning! I detest the keyboard sounds but Lindley is incredible, and the drummer! That's one of the best sounding kits I've heard in a long time. Thanks for posting this.
 10. Those w***ers at NICE veto treatment sometimes.
 11. Awful awful awful! Fabulous fabulous fabulous! Hate it hate it hate it! Love it love it love it!
 12.

silddx @ Jun 2 2010, 10:34 PM) * ....play very fast riffs with total accuracy.
Hell, I gonna get me some if that happens.
Erm, maybe I should have said ....play very fast riffs with the same lack of accuracy as without gloves
 13.
Neither. Get your hands Nanoweb coated. I'm sure they'd do it for you! Edited a few minutes later- Frivolous joke gives way to serious idea. Anyone tried the tight-fitting latex gloves (like the ones they sell for mechanics etc.)? I might give some a go if I can find some...
They would rip and stick like glue mate. The silk works perfectly.
 14.
I didn't actually say that there was anything wrong with being a poser! I'm all for it as far as performers go. Me on stage? I’m the sad git that doesn’t even play live, but if I did I’d be very dull and boring as I don’t have any extroversion at all. I would change quite a few of my traits if I could.
Oh ok. it sounded like you were using the word poser in a pejorative way. Get on stage, man! It's an amazing feeling!
 15.
Your Command is my Wish, O Master: Exhibit A - The Glove: Exhibit B - Me hacking through "Politician" Once 'round the block with the glove & once without... You decide.
First is the Glove?
 16.
i can see the benefits and why people would wear them, i just personally would never go on stage wearing those bad boys!
Racist.
 17.
Hmm, Gloves or elixirs... Gloves or elixirs... If that recordings with gloves though I'll be seriously impressed.
Which recording? Paul h's? There seem to be a few coming on here now with various hand apparel I may try something with high heeled shoes on my hands shortly
 18.
I hate the thought of wearing gloves. Pretty much the only time I don a pair is to clear out a spider infested area (hate spiders!) If I saw a bass player wearing them I'd just think 'poser', unless I knew it was for some sort of skin problem. Still, each to his own as they say.
What's wrong with being a poser, mate? We're in the entertainment industry right? What's wrong with dressing up on stage and giving the audience a show? What do you wear on stage then?
 19.
On a serious note. How warm do they keep your hands?? My hands lock up in the cold and as shown woolly gloves don't work!!
I believe they have thermal insulating properties.
 20.
I had 1/2 a cornet at lunchtime
21.
He's one cool looking man, I like his jacket as well, oh and the bass, that is mega cool ( probably because it goes with the jacket). Your recording Nigel, well I couldn't tell which was which, but it didn't really capture my attention like paul h's, his piece was much more um.....intriguing. These gloves, do they go with knee length boots? I've got a pair of knee length boots now and they could look quite dandy together.
They go very well with my black nylons.
 22. I would buy 30 sets of black silk gloves, size small.
 23.
Actually, *I* kill strings very quickly too, especially at gigs. I love the 'new string' tone and find that after the first set, the strings will have gone dull, by the end of the night, dead! So, anything that can keep my hands dry, or keeps the sweat off the strings seems like a good idea to me. But then, I'm far more open minded than most and am not dragged down by fashion or what looks cool. It's utilitarian. I do utilitarian! (Well - with the exception that both of my Shukers are GORGEOUS looking basses ha ha ha - but, that was second to playability.)
Don't worry mate, these look massively Kool with a kapital "K" Don't listen to these pansies who go on stage in boot-cut jeans and a dirty old Robin Trower tour t-shirt. Get the gloves. One day all bassists will play this way.
 24.
I admit to being a bit intrigued by this glove thing so I decided to do my own little sound test. Apparently my bass playing is completely shot and I can't play in time with or without gloves but have a listen any way. One half is played au naturel and the other wearing some woolly gloves from Next. See if you can tell which is which.
25.
Maybe a Zoom H2 for recording gigs and practices?
Yep, invaluable bit of kit. I love mine.
