  1. I saw them down in Hastings last year. Absolute treat! Our guitarist recently said that no one likes a bass solo... 😅
  2. Yeah a lot folk said the same about Galileo, too. Turns out he was right 😅 a key point here is that @ped has as much experience of filters as pretty much anyone on BC - so I'm very partial to what he has to say on the subject! I also know that many multifx do struggle with filters and synth sounds, although several manage to do a pretty decent octave up/down and, sometimes, the cheaper older models such as the Zoom's multifx can often match or beat much higher end models.
  3. That's very useful to know. Good UI can't make up for sub-par sims. Looks like I'll be sticking to the GT 1000 Core for now then.
  4. Any idea when pricing might be released? The UI looks really good on this, which is going to really help with work flow.
  5. We had a busy weekend of gigs including one on Saturday afternoon that was Halloween themed, so we couldn't resist having a go at Michael Jackson's Thriller!
  6. Just a quick update from me: I've now had the Nux 5.8 Ghz for a couple of months and used them at a variety of gigs with no drop outs and very good range. The Nux performed admirably with no drop outs even at a large venue corporate event with a "full fat" sound set-up and plenty of competing mics. Very happy with it and to recommend to anyone looking for a compact wireless in the £100 to £150 price bracket
  7. Man...we really are starting to box clever now
  8. You could almost make the case for having two! One at the start to present a crud-free signal to the pedals and one to clean up any low end crud created by the pedals. Overkill?
  9. At least it's timely for Halloween 😅
  10. Interesting side-track about good (as in easy to get on with) people vs good musicians. Both are obviously ideal. Anyone who is either really unpleasant to work with / be around or isn't sufficiently good / willing to improve and is holding the band back, is not going to last, and either the individual or his/her bandmates are likely to end up parting company. What is "sufficiently good" is going to differ depending on what people want from the project. E.g. a hobby band playing pubs once a month can take a more relaxed "fun" approach vs semi-pro musicians looking to make a decent part time living from being working musicians playing function gigs where a greater degree of professionalism and musicianship is going to be required as the entry ticket.
  11. Just been having a bit of fun learning the bass line to Thriller for a Halloween gig coming up. Loving how a relatively simple 7 note riff can become such a massive / iconic hook! Seems to me MJ was particularly good at doing that and Bruno Mars has taken a leaf or two out of his book. What are your favourite song(s) where the bass line is the hook? Please feel free to post a YT clip...I'm just feeling that posting a clip of the original Thriller ain't going to add to the sum human knowledge for any of us, haha! We did, however, have a look out for a version we could do with much more modest instrumentation and playing capability than MJ had at his disposal...and we really liked what this crew had come up with:
  12. From last Tuesday night - a real privilege to be invited to play at these inaugural awards:
  13. I've been using the Digitech Mosaic. I found the Pitchfork a little glitchy. Nice little demo here: Video | Facebook The Boss OC-5 also does both octave up and octave down and can do both simultaneously. Does the classic OC-2 octave down sound well, very good tracking and decently priced.
  14. Cheers guys, there's no pad on the Soundcraft MTK series which explains I'm just back from selling a MB combo to a wonderful 78 y/o bass player (not a BC'er) who's still gigging regularly and been in a band that's been going with the same line up for over 4 decades - very inspiring! I did say I'd double check items 1) to 4) that @JPJ listed and lo and behold the group master switch had indeed been disconnected for that particular channel. So I guess nice and easy! Thanks very much for jumping in though gents - it prompted the rechecking!
  15. Thanks very much for that advice! It is indeed an analogue desk. Already checked for 1 to 4 last night, so shouldn't be an issue, but I'll definitely double check. In terms of an input pad being accidentally triggered, what am I looking out for?
  16. A privilege for my crew to be invited to play at the inaugural LGBTQ+ Defence Awards at the De Vere in Holborn on Tuesday night. Loved it! LA Mixtrax (@lamixtrax) • Instagram photos and videos
  17. I've noticed at a few rehearsal studios that certain channels don't work particularly well and that we need to swap to another of the input channels. Found that happening with our band desk yesterday - the singer was just not getting much volume from one mic channel input but the adjacent ones were fine. We couldn't fathom any particular reason for this being the case in terms of the settings and that particular input hadn't been particularly "abused". Have any of you experienced similar issues? Any thoughts on possible causes and fixes?
  18. Been using a full pedal board live for a little while with a Zoom B1-4 multifx at its heart, rather than just the B1-4 as a standalone multifx and tuner. Found a really good bit-crusher sim ("Lo fi") on the SY 200, which I've tweaked to suit my personal taste. I don't recall having a bit-crush feature on the SY-1? If so, this is a really nice-to-have additional capability. The patch seems very usable e.g. for a Sweet Dreams/Eurythmics style bass line and probably means my dedicated bit crusher pedal could be for the chop, in which case the SY 200 just paid for itself! The polyphonic & superb tracking that the Boss SY pedals have also means I don't need to worry about noisy glitches during a song, which was a key reason for going with this in preference to a couple of the market leading alternatives.
  19. Excited that you've joined the club! I'm currently focusing on getting my Boss SY-200 knowledge up to speed and then will be turning my attention to the GT 1000 Core. I'm hoping that there will be a fair bit of OS overlap!
  20. Oh dear, I agree that wasn't the best deal to sell something for a good price used to replace with a new unit! Still I'm not complaining, haha! By coincidence I spotted that ability to set how many patches you cycle through on my SY-200 just a couple of days back, which is a very useful live feature that Boss clearly seem to have on all their newer multis? Saves me scrolling through 128 patches on the SY-200!
  21. Seen a few of these exchanging hands recently in the FS and thought a thread for those of us up to speed to share their wisdom and those of just starting out to post any queries we might have could be helpful. So please share thoughts on how you're using yours, any stock patches you rate/recommend and details of your own bespoke patch ideas.
  22. I tried it out in anger on Sat night and it was getting a little lost in the mix so I've given it a little volume boost and the nudged the treble up a bit to give it more presence. Here's the updated Xotic BB patch: The individual sims are in order: Black Opt - Comp 35 Lo 80 Hi 40 Vol 50 Bass BB - Gain 85 Bass 5 Treble 7 Vol 50 SMR 400 - Bass 7.5 Treble 0.0 Gain 50 Vol 70 Mid F 160 Hz Middle 0.0 ENHNC 50 ZNR - Detect GTRIN Depth 100 Threshold 30 Decay 0 Patch Vol 40 Let me know what you think!
  23. Does that mean a certain rather lovely KS is very much off your radar now? 😁
  24. Aha, that bodes well for me then! I'm just getting an OBP-2 fitted on my Yamaha BB 2005 to replace a rather tired Yamaha pre-amp with an NE1 mid-cut circuit that never gets used. How's your OBP-1 changed the sound to make it such a step up? So what were your top 3 waste of money upgrades and why didn't they hit the mark?
  25. After churning through over 25 basses over the past decade I've ended up with a herd of 8 including 3 basses that I'm regularly gigging and finally feeling "yeah, this lot are really good!" I guess the fact I've not actually bought a bass in a couple of years is perhaps a good sign that I'm pretty happy with my lot. However it's fair to say that even my current herd have not been without their niggles and I've started going down the route of seeing if I can put through a few judicious upgrades to sort out the flaws without replacing the bass outright. I've got a couple of stories to share about tweaks to my Spector Euro 5LX which has made a really positive difference to an otherwise great bass and more recently about my Yamaha BB 2005 which is currently being upgraded which I'll come back to shortly and maybe add some more pics: In the meantime, thought it would be interesting to swap stories of any mods you've put through to basses you really rate, and what it is about them that make them special, where the modifications have had a really positive outcome, or any that you thought "oh dear that was a waste of time & money!"? Pics very welcome!
