  1. Very much what I thought. In other words a bit of a gimmick?
  2. Does the editor require Windows 10 to work, or will it work just fine on earlier versions eg Windows 7?
  3. Spot on. Hard to disagree with ANY of that! (Or certainly at least the bit about Spectors) 😁
  4. PJB gear is very jazzy isn't it? 😁
  5. Clearly have too much time on my hands first thing this morning...I thought it might be useful to put what's ok / not in one place, after our recent debates on the matter. Here's how I've been approaching it (before I crash and burn in Feb 😁) (BASS) GEAR ABSTINENCE CHALLENGE 2020 – RULES OF THE GAME Why? To focus on making the most of the existing gear we have rather than get distracted by the next ‘shiny new thing’. What’s a fail? Any purchase or trade of new or used bass gear. 'Bass gear' = anything in your signal chain that you use to make or augment your bass sound /tone. basses, amps, cabs, pedals, PA gear (if your bass is DI’d into this) What’s ok? Anything to look after or organise your existing gear or wear & tear related. Any non-bass gear. strings, gig bags, leads, pedal boards, PSUs for pedal boards, repairs or identical replacement of existing kit, lessons, software related to existing kit non-bass musical gear (this came under a stricter Tier 2 for the completely hair shirted last year) e.g. music software not related to existing kit, keyboards, guitars, drum machines etc. By concession: unsolicited gifts of gear where you had no say in the matter! When? Any purchases between 1 Jan 2020 to 31 Dec 2020 If I've got that about right and we're all broadly in agreement, I can ask @bassfan to put it at the bottom of his OP for ease of reference.
  6. Nice summary. I've been told that part of the reason my Mesa M6 is such a great amp (hybrid AB as it happens) and is for me, without question, the amp whose tone I like best when paired with any of the cabs I've had, is partly down to it being a very responsive amp. Which very much ties in with what you're saying. But what makes one amp responsive and another less so, is well above my pay grade!
  7. Panic over - thank gawd for that! 😁 That is one seriously sexy chair. And it's a 5er to boot.
  8. Useful thread discussed that very point - and confirms your thinking that the early LM3s were class AB Here's a relevant question: if you could compare the Class AB LM3 with a Class D LM3 (with the rest of the rig unchanged), would you hear any difference? If the answer is "no", then that must go a long way to validating @Phil Starr's very well put hypothesis.
  9. Lot of love for the Fender Rumbles - no question. Interesting thread today on a mod to the 100: And the TC BG 208 / 210 are also worth a look, although not in the same class as the MB combo IMO (I had the TC BG 115), but ridiculously good value.
  10. The MB LM3 post 2012 is class D, I believe. I think the earlier LM2 was A/B.
  11. Excellent multifx from a top BC'er!
  12. Definitely anti-something. Probably just anti GK in fact.
  13. Nah, sadly I think I'm correct ... just check with the man of rules Mr @Sibob himself. But as I say, if you need one of us to step in...😁
  14. And frankly if I was (unsolicited) to be given a bass of the kind that I know you're partial too, hiram.k, then I'd gladly fall off the GAW. So if you need one of us to step in, just shout... 😁
  15. It will have been our great pleasure to have known you mate.
  16. You're very welcome. And if you're someone who can do that effortlessly then I, for one, ain't gonna be picking an argument with you any time soon. Lol. Long live Trace Elliot.
  17. So this weekend I've had a narrow escape with a bass whilst running about like a headless chicken looking into it. Beaten by a buddy to a drum pedal and somehow managed to turn on a sixpence to just avoid getting another cab. Dave's already bought out the stock of most UK retailers' GK amps, so at least I'm safe on that score.
  18. How's your back doing? 😉
  19. So the audience does sometimes notice? 😁
  20. ^^ This. The CMD 121P has the older Markbass LM2 or 3 amps in. But you're paying a lot extra, as I said, for a newer MB amp plus a BF cab and you can potentially easily solve the EQ issue with a decent EQ pedal, if you want to get the CMD 121P.
  21. A quality hybrid should hit the mark. My Mesa M6 certainly does, but it's 25 lbs. The new GK Fusion S series looks to be seriously promising on both the weight (just 5.5 lbs) and sound fronts, but comes with a hefty price tag. Check out the clean grit sound at 037s. Lush!
  22. The CMD 121P is a great suggestion. If you're also open to considering separates then a BF one10 or BF Super Midget cab plus an amp head of your choice would work really well IMO. @fretmeister will hopefully be along shortly to confirm. Going to be a fair bit more pricey than the MB combo though.
  23. @Muzz great tip, thanks. Do you know what speakers / drivers they're using in the Rumble 200 and 500 series and whether your suggestion would also be relevant to them?

    Boss SY-1

Good man! You'll have guessed from my earlier post that my "will to live" as regards computer editing has been entirely filched by my multi-fxs, which obviously can deliver a much wider range of fx as the reward for the time invested. So I've not had any motivation to pick up yet more computer editing skills on my FI and which has consequently lain somewhat forlorn on my board! Given that you're the only other person I know who has both the FI and SY-1, particularly interested in getting your views on whether you feel the SY-1 is going to be good enough for your live use (are you currently in a band?) especially it's superb tracking, sustain pedal and polyphony or whether the tonal "extra" that the FI can undoubtedly deliver makes it noticeably better in terms of classic synth tone, given that you seem to have got far more into your FI than I have managed to!

Yeah agree - some pedals just don't grab our imaginations, for sure. Obviously differs with each of us as to precisely which pedal, but I can certainly relate to one of our fellow synth pedal lovers admitting he's not found the inclination to touch his C4 since getting it several months ago, whilst loving his new fretless bass. I've had a similar experience with my FI's since getting my first one 18 months ago. Not really touched them - but have loved the new basses I've been fortunate to get my hands on. Maybe it's time to face the reality of my lack of enthusiasm and get my most recent Panda FI replacement moved on. I guess it reminds me that we're first and foremost bass players and then somewhere down the list, computer editing boffins!
