  1. There's a used Yamaha BB 734A in the for sale section that is bang on your budget (inc. P&P). (I have no connection to the seller btw other than we both spend far too much time on the Yamaha thread!). P+J pups, which is a great format. Active / passive modes. Decent 3 band EQ. Yamaha build quality. I think you'll be very hard pressed to find a more capable bass for the money, other than perhaps the Sire P7 on your list, but I see you're less keen on that one, and I think both the Sire and the 734A have 21 frets and you've mentioned a preference for 24. PS I see a BB 734A has made it onto the "if I could only keep 1 bass thread", which is high praise indeed, particularly if you read what other basses he has! I rest my case! 😊 Edit: scrap the above - that s734A has just sold. Someone's got a great bass at a good price!
  2. Hmmm...the spec on the new Legends seems to be a real step up from their old range! And now giving the old Euro LXs a run for their money. Kinda feels like Spector have taken a decision to "dumb-up" their basses! Obviously it's coming with a price tag, but I applaud the thinking: it's very refreshing.
  3. The new Legends are also NT, so have drop dead good looks to match!
  4. @AndyTravistime to sort out that NS2 seller's regret, eh?
  5. So what's the deal with the Fishman pups? Have to fess that having decent pups are a big deal for me and pups that deliver a full rich tone or growl have me gushing!
  6. Typical eh - you can only get soapbar format for the 5 string Euro LX!
  7. @Eldon Tyrell there's a mint 2007 Euro LX in the FS, on for a good price and seller is willing to take offers. If I was after a 4 string, I'd have been sorely tempted, myself!
  8. There's a video of it being played on the previous page, and more discussion and pics on page 148 (and earlier) of this thread.
  9. Don't tell me looks have never played a part in any of your choices and you are purely a personality guy? 😄
  10. For me it's purely about the design / aesthetics. NTs just look great!
  11. Tbf £1,500 is pretty much the price of the P34 when it first came out (and that's not a NT either).
  12. True - but you can get a Spector EuroLX for the same price as the Hooky. It's also reverse P + "sculpted" back (which the BB NE2 has happily copied!) + neck through + bridge J pup. And it's a pedigree bass. So I'm sure Yamaha could have made the Hooky a neck through if they had put their mind to it, in the same way they did for the BB1200S. The killer for me is that I suspect that it's only going to be released as a 4 string...
  13. Yeah - I think I had that at the back of my mind. Shame, as for me a neck through is such a great design looks-wise! Shouldn't make too much difference tonally other than NTs have a reputation for greater sustain, which I guess can be a desirable quality for rock, but probably less so for Motown!
  14. And I guess that's not surprising, given that the BB1200S was his favourite bass! “My Gibson EB-0 got stolen in America, but it was shite and kept going out of tune,” he admits. “So I went to Manny’s on 48th Street and the only thing that was any good was their Yamaha BB600. It felt perfect. I traded in for the 1000 and after that the 1200, which had a straight-through neck and two non-active pickups. Then someone from a shop called me up saying there was now a three-way active 1200S. I went straight there and never looked back. I’ve tried every other guitar in the world, but they just don’t do anything for me.” MusicRadar August 30, 2019
  15. The spec of the Hooky bass effectively makes it a modern day BB1200S i.e. active and with a reverse P. Except maybe it has a bolt on neck and not a neck through like the old 1200S was?
  16. 17 months, 30 days and 14 hours to go yet mate...
  17. Quick everyone, lock up your Spectors before Cosmo spots them! 😁
  18. And although @dave_bass5has pointed out on another thread that black basses matter, white basses are pretty darned tasty too and a Spector to boot!
  19. Must be the virus going around which means I'm seeing double, or is it that I just can't count to one anymore? ...it's definitely going to be one of the two, right? 😁
  20. Yup I love Spectors too. And Ken Smiths. And Yamahas of course...did I say just 18 months to make my mind up? 😁
  21. Be right back in a mo with a decision...gimme say, 18 months? 😁
  22. I can only manage to narrow it down to two. So I'm out for now!
  23. Forget the shape. Just count all those knobs! 😁
  24. Here you go:
  25. Ooooh, that's very nice!
