1. Thanks Japanaxe, that's really helpful. Sounds like a show-stopper given my level of skill. I'll have to think again I guess. Srwu
2. Hi all I'm toying with the idea of upgrading the pickup in my p bass. I'm tempted by either the Fender Custom Shop '62 or the Seymour Duncan Antiquity II. However, my bass is a lefty and both pickups seem to come mounted on a brass plate shaped for a right hander. I assume I'd have to unsolder it, turn it face down and solder the pickup back on? Would that work? I've got a soldering iron but im not that practiced with it so if there was a way of fitting without taking a soldering iron to an expensive pickup that would be great! On a different note, does anyone have experience with the two pickups I'm looking at and any thoughts on how they compare? Thanks all! Srwu
3. My first one and it was great fun. Congratulations on the genius stroke of getting Herbie Flowers. Many thanks for all the heroic efforts that undoubtedly went in to organising it.
4. I use a Tascam GB10, you can put MP3s on it and slow them down (or speed them up) to play along to. It also has a built in metronome and tuner.
5.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was a test of the market by Fender, and full production might be based on how well these sell and how they take off in terms of the general public making comments about playing one.
Well, if you're listening Fender, how about a lefty........?
6. He's a very nice bloke too. I bought my lefty fretless Stingray from him and when he brought it round he was very modest and low key - in fact it wasn't until after he'd gone that I googled him and realised what a talent he is. Re the upside down thing, certainly the Stingray I bought from him was a lefty but strung upside down.
7. Ok thanks, that's a little lighter than I'm looking for. Thanks anyway. Stuart
8. They have a place on the edge of Camberley in Surrey. Although I think they basically are mail order only I turned up on spec one Saturday morning and caught them in. They were very helpful and friendly and agreed to do a setup on a bass I bought on eBay (they set it up very nicely too). I suspect that if you contact them and you could get yourself down to Camberley they'd let you try before buying. I agree with comments above about the logo...
9. Great, thanks very much.
10. Thanks dannybuoy, the irig seems to cost around £30 while the line6 is at least double. Is the line6 worth the extra?
11. Hi I've downloaded the Djay 2 app to my iPhone 5. This lets me stream any track from Spotify and then slow down and loop to practice along to. Next step is to link my bass to the iPhone. I know from another discussion on here that I can blend the output from the phone with the bass using a separate mixer and then connect headphones to that. I'm wondering though whether a line6 pod might be a more elegant approach. From what I can see I could plug this directly to the iPhone and then plug the bass into the line6 so the mixing would be done on the phone. However I can't see from the info online whether the line6 would work with the Djay2 app or only works with the dedicated line6 apps. Does anyone have experience of the line6 pod? Can it be used independently of the line6 apps or does it only work with them? I'd be grateful for your advice. Thanks
12.
The one you never play
Ah, I already sold that one...
13. Thanks all for your advice. I play the Jazz more often and also I reckon I could switch the strings from the Jazz to the Stingray more easily than in the other direction. So it's probably the Jazz for flatwounds. On the other hand I do have GAS for a precision....
14. Hi I'm going to take the plunge and try out some flatwounds. I'm trying to decide whether to put on my Jazz or my Stingray. I'm tempted to put them on the Stingray for the Bernard Edwards associations but I wonder if they would be a more natural fit with the Jazz. I'd be grateful for your thoughts or advice.

Moollon

Well that's fair enough. I suppose my question really though was whether, branding and resale value aside, there was any discernible difference between these three basses.

Moollon

This is interesting as I'm in the market for a (lefty) precision. It looks as though some of the options based on this thread, assuming they are all available as leftys are: Maruszczyk c£650 Fender Us Standard c £1200 Moollon c£1400 My question is whether there's a material improvement in quality or sound that would justify paying more than for the Maruszczyk? What does the jury think?
17. Definitely sold to DanEly's friend. Thanks DanEly for hooking us up.
18. Thanks, yes sounds good and plays nicely too, it's just that it's not getting used, I have my eye on another bass and I've promised Mrs Wu that I'll move this one on before I get any more!
