1.
Is it any good for metal?
Damn it!! I was too late for that one...
 2.
Just out of curiosity, as I know none of these, I gave 'em a listen each (yes, I had, in fact, heard the Nina Simon one, but...). You're saying that a lot of drummers you've heard can't get these down 'pat'..? I'm amazed. What the heck can they be doing, then..? These are basic, minimalistic numbers (except for the 'Zuton' Valerie, which is just plain duff..!). You must be right, of course, but if these aren't right, what are they doing to Sound Garden, or RATM..?

it's mainly the drummers that tend to have not listened to the songs properly and put a completely inappropriate beat behind the song. Doomed from the start! Less is more!!!!
We had a drummer come in once for about 6 weeks before we asked him to leave because he did stuff like that. Drove me absolutely mad as I really like to lock it with the drummer and have good communication between each other, this guy was doing fills and adding extra bits in at the most weirdiest times and it would completely throw us all. Not to mention the pace changes after the odd chorus here and there - he kept us on our toes for sure... We started doing our best to ignore him, but when it gets to the point you're trying to ignore the drummer you have to start thinking about getting a replacement
 3.
Some of the song they are playing seem quite easy.
Because playing bass generally is in popular music! To play as a band I find Sweet Home Alabama is a trickier one for us, if the fills and some of the fiddley tiddley bits (techincal terms being used here) arent timed well it sounds bloody awful.
 4. I've sat through and read all this thread - I need a lay down now... My question is why are Gibson not in the same position? They've produced the same old Gold/tabacco burst Les Pauls for years and they too have the cheap Epiphones and Studio versions of all their gear.
 5.
Some folks will climb to the peak of a mountain or tall hill and jump off with a hang glider. It costs them fuel and gear do do that. How much are they paid..? They're not, it's their hobby. Some will go scuba diving, with bottles to lug and wet-suits to pack away. How much do they earn for such a week-end..? Nothing, it's what they do for fun.
This is it for me, I go paintballing once a month with all my own kit etc and travel for a hour and half to go the the paintball field I most enjoy. The day usually costs me around £100+ in total but its totally worth the rush and enjoyment I get from it. Its the same with the band, I get the rush and enjoyment and also get paid a little bit for it so I find that absolutely amazing no matter how small the fee. I'd be more than happy to go and do it for free (tries to dodge all the cabages and tomatoes thrown at me). We play pubs playing other peoples songs, I dont expect to be paid anything amazing...
 6. Im just using standard 100's at the moment, tuning wise i would be tuning to C G C F Just thinking whether i would need to take it too someone to set up if its a necessity to fiddle with the truss rod because those two words scare me... Looking to do a metal project with my friend and I've played in drop C on a guitar fine using 11s but with bass the strings are massive so I'm just making sure i dont mess it up!
 7. Just coming back to this, if I brought a higher guage string would I really need to start messing with the truss rod? Surely there wouldnt be any difference in tension on the neck if the strings are left in a dropped tuning? I was looking at 110s to start off with to see how I get on.
 8. I got up close and touched Billy Sheehans Attitude bass after his clinic in GuitarGuitar in Birmingham. That was super cool, and I felt that if I picked it up and played it I would automatically be as good as he is - The reality,it was just another bass - especially as he uses the same Attitude that you can pick up in a store. Saying that if I did get to play it I would probably get on peoples nerves talking about how I PLAYED BILLY SHEEHANS BASS!!11!!1!
 9.
Glad you got it sorted but doesn't this leave you with two amps now?
It does I will now have the Eden and my Hartke, but my intension was to buy a backup amp at some point anyway.
 10. I'd buy a Trace Elliot something just because it glows green and thats super cool.
 11. It took me making a complaint to the Managing Director of the shop I brought the amp from but its now been finally resolved! I explained the situation and he was extremely accommodating and he has now promised me a swap for a Eden E300 and will even cover the extra cost for me, so I've come out with a better amp at the end of it. I probably should have made the complaint ages ago but until you guys posted all your advice I wasnt aware I had the right to get a replacement, so I'd like to thank each one of you who replied! Probably will avoid Laney now for the rest of my life...
 12. Thanks for the info guys, I will give all these a go and see what results I get!!
 13. They look like a classic case of ''Oh well bass players are boring arent they? Lets make the bass look boring as well then...''
Looks cheap and ugly, IMO.
and this... To look at it doesnt scream out quality - would have to try one.
 14. Hi Guys, I'm sure I read somewhere on this forum a while ago that mentioned a website which showed you what string gauge to buy for different tunings, but I cant find it! Any ideas? Also would I need to worry about neck tension? and what do you do with a neck-through bass? Thanks!
 15. Has anyone got one of these yet? I'm serious tempted by them but nowhere seems to stock them but can order them in but I'm not into buying one before I've played it!
 16. Limelight Guitars http://basschat.co.u...melight-thread/ That sounds like a great option for you. They seem to go down really well with a lot of the guys on this forum. *Just saw he already knew about Limelight Guitars - please delete* haha!
 17. Guys, I cannot thank you enough. I didnt know I had any of these rights haha! I will let you know the outcome at the weekend!
 18.
Yep, that's true. Returning goods 'face to face', as Weststarx is doing, is slightly different but the 4 week limit is the same. The pertinent headlines for this case are: If the goods are returned as faulty within the first 4 weeks of ownership he is entitled to a refund. After 4 weeks he is entitled to a replacement or a repair up to the 6 month point. After 6 months the options are limited to repair - this is where Weststarx is. Now, these are the minimum expectations of the Sale Of Goods Act and most savvy retailers will be doing more than the minimum requirements in order to keep the customer happy.
As the first time it was sent for a repair and it clearly wasnt repaired could I argue for a replacement/refund?
 19.
Don't know if the law's changed but it used to be that once you gave them the chance to repair it you lost a lot of strength in asking for a refund. I had a Laney practise amp once, the speaker was way underpowered & had to be replaced fairly quickly, other than that it was OK - but nothing special. You could maybe write to Laney's PR/Customer Service people saying "I appear to have bought a Friday afternoon amp, can you help me out" kinda thing & hope for the best? I tweeted about a duff shaver a few weeks ago & had the company on within minutes asking what they could do to help. Social media can be powerful stuff. edit: @LaneyAmps
Apparently Laney do not refund or replace an amp until it has broken down 3 times... I also did write Laney a letter which successfully got ignored. Maybe I'll tweet them this thread...
 20. Hi All, Just wanted to express my fustrations and to also warn fellow bass players what to expect with Laney. In February after saving money from Christmas and my Birthday I saved up some money and went looking for a new amp. In the end I went and brought a Laney after having used my dads old Laney DP150 which was tough as nails. So I brought a Laney RB9 with the hope and trust that it was going to last me a long time and be a kickass as the DP150. Oh how I was wrong... After 3 months the amp died on me at rehearsal, I took it back to the shop I brought it from who sent it off to Laney to be repaired. I then heard absolutely nothing from Laney and neither did the shop after 6 weeks. After losing paitence, I went into the shop a week later and asked them to call Laney in front of me and ask what the delay was. All of a sudden Laney jump into action and say 'Amp will be with you by the weekend'. To my joy it arrived when they said and I took it home. It was only a month later the amp died again, this time 3 days before a gig. I was fuming, even more so that becuase of it I had to into my savings and buy a different amp with next day delivery so I could make the gig. Again its now been nearly over 2 months since I've heard anything from Laney and again I lost paitence and all of a sudden I receive a phone call this morning saying it will again be back by the weekend. Personally I dont want this amp back, I want my money back. As a gigging bassist I cant afford having an amp that dies every 5 minutes and I also cannot trust it to use at a gig or even as a backup to my new one in fear that it will just die on me again. Its been 9 months since I bought it and I've only been able to use it for about 4 months. Needless to say I will not invest my hard earnt cash into anything Laney again.
 21. It hasnt gone in and then gone out after you've brought something using paypal has it?
 22.
Good point, the fact that top 40 went "bye bye" years ago really hurt us For us over 60 guys, you might remember when everyone knew what the number 1,2 and 3 songs were on the charts. Now everything is segmented, kids will say, i only listen to this or that. My generation, we listened to everything, you had to. I mean The Beatles were charting but so was Frank Sinatra. blue
Thats the other problem we face. Theres such a massive diverse in the range of music thats accessible now and with the birth of the internet you can listen to what you want when you want. Radio feels like its turning into more of a chat show than actually playing music, and the music that does get played is stuff that only in the charts. Even the rock radio stations in the UK such as Planet Rock only ever seem to play the old classics and never seem to push new bands on to the scene. - Thats from my experience anyway because when I've ever been asked what radio station i listen to and say Planet Rock, I always get the response "Oh my Dad listens to that..."
 23. I think the simple factor is that there is not really any bands that are in the charts these days so your 20 somethings arent going to have grown up listening to rock bands etc because nowadays they just dont exist in the charts. The other thing to consider is if you go into a pub full of 20 somethings and play 60s blues and rock they wont be interested because its the wrong type of audience. Same way if a band of 20 somethings played chart music to a pub filled with bikers. I'm 21 myself and play in a pub covers band - its great fun and we try to mix it up to cater for all age groups with music from people like Chuck Berry to Katy Perry - though the crowds in Cambridgeshire pubs are mostly filled with a middle aged audience. It does make me fear that we just wont see live bands anymore and I will lose what I love doing because kids my age just arent interested. The music they listen to doesnt and mostly CANT get played by bands because its all over produced dance beats.
 24.
Owning a P bass is a lot like having a child. You look at it sometimes and wonder if the money would have been better spent on something else; but if anyone tried to take it away from you, you'd kill them.
Haha I LOVE that.... There is so many times that I think, maybe I should've brought a Musicman or a Warwick and when I get to practice and plug it in i just think... Mother trucking P BASS!!!!!!!
 25.
Thanks for the replies everyone, at least it doesn't look like I'm the only one who's experienced this sort of problem. And BILL POSTERS, it's a more of a vibration, that seems to build in strength the longer I allow myself to touch both the strings and the device.
Perhaps if you hold it long enough you will get some sort of super powers!
