What's the most over-rated bass, or bass related product???
Raslee replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
3 bass related things that suck to me are........ 1) Planet waves cables....unbreakable my arse, i'm on my second in 2 years-cha,...and who keeps the packaging to send them back-duh! 2) 5 string Status Groove bass...really sucked imo and sold the very next day-maybe just a bad one. 3) Recording bass on Cubase on a PC...Macs and Logic are far superior - ....i'm dead! 3.5) Treble on bass - phat dub tones for me, helps with my rhythm deficiencies oh and generally love to hate guitarists (not all though...most of them)...far too loud and moan at everything! -

Never really got into the Warwick's thang, thick uncomfortable necks, nasal woody sound with no bottom, and well... i thought they were a bit overrated generally...... And soooo, i did a trade recently and ended up with a 96 Warwick Corvette, admittedly it has had good upgrades to EMG's and EMG pre amp, and wow this thing really rocks................well actually it funks for me to be honest! I haven't stopped funking on it, my terrible slap almost sounds audible, ...its weird because i don't really want to like it that much, i don't want to become attached because its kinda bass number 2/3 and having also recently sold my main Jazz bass to fund a 79 MM ray i feel guilty. I keep picking up this Warwick though, it has something paranormal going on about it, i get drawn to it,...it has a slimmer neck than i remember of Warwicks i tried many moons ago, it has a nice ass (bottom) too, and well i even like the ergonomics and general looks....does it do DUB? Its only a matter of time and i'll be singing the praises of those spiky BC Rich bitches I think i am becoming less judgemental but more mental every day, must be my day job i guess Anyway thought I'd bizarrely share this as losttheplot.com didn't yield any help for to me see sense in what i'm thinking.
Bubinga, believe me, that vid is just a top of the iceberg, well, in fact, it doesn't tell a thing about Victor's music understanding - check his "Groove Workshop" dvd - it's not that kinda slappo'tappo thingy you'd expect - Victor talks and shows things, you would never think about..
+1 for the Groove Workshop DVD...i think its the only bass vid i've stayed awake for (both of them) - I love Victors spirituality underpinning his outlook on playing bass - i really get with that playing reggae music (Jah works ), i don't know much about theory and technique - i can't play that technical either...not that it matters....but the spirit is there! Positive Vibrations - Bob Marley & the Wailers....It has a one note (ish) bass solo at about 3mins & 58secs....beautiful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgeGsr9HZ_4 The live version on the Babylon by bus albums sounds better!
I think every bass player should own a Stingray at least once in their lifetime - same as being on the dole or running a Triumph Trident.
+1..started out with a Ray...done several years on the jazz......gone back to a 79 Pre EB Ray-no regrets, a bit like getting that dirty girl back from teenage days for a play or two -rudeness i like - i also find stingrays really phat sounding with the tone rolled off - great for dance music, dub , drum n bass vibes etc -
Well said that man --------------------- --------------------- ---3--5-55-3-5---- -5-------------------
Why thank you...your tab shows 3 notes-superb!, Well, i read some crap on this thread to be honest. So some tongue in cheek philosophy underpinned by a real message occasionally is my way....did far too much debate at uni and found that all great debates end back where it started albeit with decisions, plans and answers oh and more debate......for this debate i seem to see its just many opinions but fundamentally its all BASS right?....even jumping on the strings like Jaco did is playing on the bass i feel! I am of course still half asleep and talking bollocks as usual

I/we love bass...... i personally love playing 3-4 notes of a real phat speaker rumbling belly popping dub that warbles a riddim that hypnotises the audience (oh...and the band) and nobody knows what it is that's gripping them and holding them together....that is until it drops out...then the riddim comes back in...that be the bass that gets ya together again and rinse up the pum pum. And well.... i equally love the fact that the likes of the mighty Jaco, Bootsy etc have taken the bass out there to space and back again...there is plenty of room for bass in space (there are no walls behind the sky )....dig - thanks god people get out there to space (talented!)...i wish i was an astronaut and not a space cadet (maybe practice) - I'll stick with my earthy 3-4 notes....that's my love and happy medium after all. As a random afterthought didn't that Whitened Stripes band have no bass player?...yet there biggest tune was that one with the b-line...go figure. Bass falls on those who feel it...he who knows it feels it...amen & more wine, one love

What's your most surreal moment in music?
Raslee replied to ashevans09's topic in General Discussion
I think my most surreal moment is having got on stage at a festival gig, ready to go on, viewing the world through spiral eyes after much local cider & stuff, sound checked my vibes and k'bang...wrong band.....oops....we were on in another hour and i realised this was not my band...needless to say their bassist had the fear and the rest of the band egged me to stay on...i knew that was the moment i needed a lot of water or something to sober oneself and go hide myself, change my appearance, repent etc etc! -
I've got a lovely Markbass Jeff Berlin combo-very light & loud but have recently got some Ashdown cabs at a bargain price so i plan to use the Jeff Berlin head (LMII) with the ashdowns or i've got an old Eden WT800A which i'm becoming rather fond of again.
