1. So this is where I'm at now. Still have the Gibsons and the Hamer, but frankly this set up is the nuts. Couldn't be happier. The 2x10 arrived yesterday. I have a forgiving wife. P
2.
I listened to the Rich Kids and I did think punk-lite. I squarely lay the blame at Midge Ure's door.
It was a brave move (on Glen Matlock's part) to get Midge Ure on board, especially considering he was in Slik. He did have some punky credentials in PVC2.
3.
If the HB supply has enough current for you, then great. Its really cheap for an isolated supply. If you're like me and have a bunch of thirsty digital pedals through, you're probably better off with the gigrig system.
I'm running a Boss tuner, Boss overdrive, a Sansamp BDDI, Sansamp VT Bass DI and a Morley ABY. I'm planning on adding a chorus, but no rush. They're all 9v and the PSU outputs at that voltage. No issues. I suppose if/when it carks out, I'll simply replace it like for like. Still can't see the point in spending any more.
4. Rich Kids - Ghosts of Princes in Towers.
5. Can I throw in something here. When I was putting my board together, I did investigate a load of brands/models, but just went with a Thomann/Harley Benton one. It sits underneath my board and quietly does (and continues to do) what its supposed to. Why anyone would want to shell out five times more for something that does the same job is beyond me.
6. That's lovely. The headstock is so much nicer than the current chewed-by-a-rottweiler ones.
7. I've used the Nanowebs a few times. On the upside, I love the tension, they last for ages without any distinct drop in tone and are very easy on the fingers. Towards the end of their usable life (speaking as a pick player) things do start to get a bit ugly down the bridge end as the coating shows signs of deterioration and flaking, but that said those strings have been on for about six months and they still sound good. The only downside is that cost pretty much double what I'd expect to pay for a set of D'Adarrio or Dunlop strings.
8. 752. I am Adam Clayton.
9. From past experience, all the Fender stuff is fairly interchangeable and simple to change. Four screws. Make sure you get a like for like neck and the scale lengths match. That's not to say that once you do swap the neck over it won't need a tweak to get it how you want it.
10. Sometimes the internet throws things up. I spoke to a tech guy once who said you need to apply a lot of heat to loosen the glue and use a pallet knife to ease the fingerboard away to access the truss rod. Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgiZkN3bl3Y
11.
Never used glue for filling holes in wood, just used wood. Matter of interest, I blocked the nozzle in a bottle of PVA with a woodscrew and the screw went rusty in about a week. Anybody ever used glue and then had a problem with the screw going rusty and breaking, or not being able to get the screw out ?
Been there. I use a golf tee now!
12. Do you remember a few years ago there were always adverts up on eBay for what alluded to be parts of 'Signature' branded basses...generally Jazz and Precision parts. I had a brief exchange with Dudepit/Steve Barr who said the original run of Signature guitars had some financial backing (in a small way) from Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee, but the company went bust leaving a flood of parts finding their way onto eBay. I had no reason to doubt this. Why do I mention this? Rush have a song called Limelight.
13.
And where do all the bits come from? What 'make' are they?
While I've now intention of buying one, this has crossed my mind as well.
14. I'm a fairly recent convert to Neutrik silent jacks...the ones with the red casing. Dave/OBBM made some up for me. Bombproof and worth the additional expense.
15. One of my old Thunderbirds...seriously guys, this bass is a belter. I only sold it to fund the Lull. I used it on this: http://www.nancyjohnson.co.uk/_2013%20Wedgie%20%28Mastered%29/01%20-%20Don%27t%20Rush%20%28Mastered%29.mp3 Have a bump. P
16.
Quote me out of context. FFS.
OK.
17.
Come to think of it, why have more than one bass at all?
Heh, are you mentals? We are bass players.
18. I love how these threads develop. Everyone chipping in with 'I love the way my bass sounds...' Ambient summed this up in the first reply and was as succinct as anyone could be (and in truth shouldn't needed to have put an apologetic-esque smiley after it either). It's how you play. P
19. My wife has just asked me if the guy 'holding the bass' is available and whether Basschat offer part-exchange. Nice. P
20. Can everyone wear a sticker with their screen name and real name?
21. I can probably rope in a drummer too if you're short.
22.
Do you fancy a shave?
Stop already.
23. I'd love to do it this year. I'll bring a couple of Gibson Thunderbirds, a Hamer FBIV, my Lull JAXT4 (please be careful with that one), and my Ashdown/Hartke/Tech21 rig. If I can bag a Hartke 2x10 by then (probably), I'll also biamp that with a TC Electronic BH800. Paul
24. OK, so this is where we're at. Bass back, played on two lengthy sessions over the weekend and again this evening for about an hour. Not a crackle, so I'm content for the moment. I've been in contact with Mark at BD and how we've left things is if things start going awry again, the warranty will kick in and it'll be fixed. P
