  1. One of the worst ones is try to start a call and response with the crowd, but they do not sing back. You sing the feed line but… [tumbleweed] 😆. This tickled me! So funny to imagine. I wish I was there to see this! 😂
  2. Yes. I knew a keyboard player once, who would use a synthesiser and a drum machine to play shows. Pretty good really. He would start the drum machine, loop a bassline, play some lead and sing. But people weren’t always convinced and sceptical. I suppose the thought that the drum was something else.
  3. This is too funny! 😆 It reminds of a band that opened up for my band once. They had backing tracks with a click running all the way through. For whatever reason, the drummer had not separated the click from the backing track, and so the sound of the click was coming through the front of house as well! Now that I look back, it was so funny. I remember thinking to myself ‘Whoever is playing the wooden blocks is dead tight!’, only to look around, see that no one was and realised it was the click! 😆
  4. Skindred - Rat Race! LOL Different song, same band though Great minds think alike Amazing that this topic in still going. Nice one! 😉
  5. I’m tried of hearing about the beatles… there I said it. Some nice tunes, but for f*ck sake, there was more to the 60’s than those guys! 😝😉
  6. Portrait of Tracy - Jaco Pastorius [Anesthesia] Pulling Teeth - Metallica
  7. I sense that a lot of the stories that will come through will involve the ol’ ‘amber nectar’ [to quote lozz196]! lol 😀.
  8. The good ol’ first gig, eh! 🙂 Been there too… and our second gig was the same! Our shows eventually got better though 🙂.
  9. Royal albert… thats cool! Strange for a warwick as they are usually so well built. It happen though, I suppose. The geddy lee jazz is a great bass, so I am sure that you were just fine 🙂.
  10. Intro tapes and backing tracks can be so awkward. I have been in bands where we had strings and/or brass backing tracks to play alongside. There has been instances where the drummer has missed the count-in OR the band have messed up a section and the backing track would be out of sync with us 🙁.
  11. Oh man! I feel for you 🙁. It was actually hard for me to drink and play. I was in a band once where we actually banned alcohol before showtime because we were always rubbish otherwise. Not very rock and roll, but it kept us tight! 😉
  12. These things happen. I had a similar situation, while playing an open-air show, where all the bands set-lists were blown away. AWKWARD! 😮🙂 EDIT: After this experience, we learned to tape them down! lol
  13. I can relate to this feeling! 😉 Tut-tut. Crooked indeed. We have all encountered those types of people! 🙁
  14. Wasn’t your night was it… still… ‘happy days!’ lol 😆.
  15. The bigger they are the harder they fall… probably literally in your case, right? 😜 ‘Amber nectar’ lol 😆
  16. Oh my goodness! 😅 Thats a skilled singer right there. I had a similar situation [not a dress!], when the top button of my jeans broke off and I was not wearing a belt. As the show went on, I was beginning to wonder why my trousers were getting incrementally lower down my backside. Fortunately we had an interval and I was able to use a safety pin to keep them together. Good job as well… one more song and everyone might have seen my pants. Thank goodness I was wearing pants! 😆
  17. Don’t get me started about spillages. I was in one band once, where we banned liquids on stage. Only bottled water with the cap on when not in use. Not very rock and roll, but I like to think that we saved lives! 😁
  18. Sounds like a good excuse to abuse the singer to me 😜 [Intentional smack] Bassist: ‘Why did you walk into my bass?!’ Singer: ‘I didn’t!’
  19. When I used to play, there was a solid couple of years when I was. But it was not solely from gigging, but with some studio work aswell. I decided to go back to having a part-time job for a bit of security. I was able to take the gigs that I was actually interested in this way, instead of any old nonsense just to get the pay 👍.
  20. Man, thats tough. I snapped my G string [oooh matron!] once, without a spare bass, but I had a spare set of strings. The guitarist took an extended solo while I changed it behind my amp. The quickest I have ever changed a string! 😆 I have never smacked someone with my headstock, but the singer walked into it once! Singers eh! 🙄
  21. Was watching spinal tap for the 100th time and the scene when derek smalls gets trapped in the pod still cracks me up 🤣 I do not play anymore but it reminded me of some of the more embarrassing moments that occurred when I did 😂 Anybody else? Or is it just me and derek on this one? 🤔 UPDATE: thanks for all your comments guys. I am really enjoying this topic. There has been so many funny stories. I am just glad that me and derek weren’t the only ones! lol.
  22. My goodness! I love what you have done with the 1024. So glad that its new home is with you 🙂
  23. Simon brought my Dod Meatbox Pedal. A friendly and honest chatter. Good comms and smooth payer… deal with ease! Thanks. Greg.
