  1. I totally get where you are coming from and having played P’s for years before getting RSI know why you started the thread as I was searching for the same solution a while back. Edit: And yes I have a PJ with a jazz neck. The P pickup is in a slightly different position. It has its strengths and benefits but I am with you it’s not for me. It’s great but the Nate I settled on is always the bass I pick up.
  2. I may be missing something but I thought these were PJ’s. I like them, others might not and would just want a P with a Jazz neck. What you keep saying is a BLT sandwich is a bacon butty because it contains bacon. Edit: For anyone looking that just wants a Fender P with a Jazz neck try a Nate P. Not exact but pretty damn close.
  3. When you’re potentially looking at spending £1000 on a bass generally you want to get exactly what you are looking for. Even if just for aesthetic reasons. No one cares if your bass is fluorescent pink with a picture of Nigel Farrage on it. But it’s probably a deal breaker.
  4. More accurately you have a PJ. The thread exists because people are looking for a Fender P with a Jazz neck and so far the answer seems to be buy a Lakland instead or make a Bitsa. I can confirm the Nate Mendel is pretty close to a J neck and really comfortable to play.

  6. There are some high end basses that would definitely fall into the investment bracket. For the most part as another poster on this forum put it I view second hand instruments as a refundable deposit. You get to enjoy an instrument for a while and as long as you look after it it tends to sell for what you paid for it (after adjusting for inflation). So in that sense it is an investment as savings accounts at the moment are returning rates that are well below inflation.

  8. This. Or if you want to spend a small fortune on a dream bass that you put together yourself head over to the Warmoth website.
  9. At this point I would not bother. It’s going to cost a fortune and you will never be as happy as just getting a decent bass to start with.

  11. Virtually unused Fender Vintera Precision. Upgraded roasted maple neck Schaller machine heads The bass has recently been set up by a local luthier to give a really nice action. For trade only. To adhere to forum rules I have put a guesstimate price. No idea what it’s worth as I don’t think Fender sell a roasted maple neck version at the moment. The neck has to be bought separately. I imported the neck and body from the USA I have switched to Jazz width necks now so sadly this needs a new home. I would rather trade then sell so am open to suggestions and am also happy to put a bit of cash into the deal if you have a more expensive bass.
  12. This is true but off the top of my head: ABBA , The Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac, The Mamas and the Papas. I think they all would qualify.
  13. If I had to take a moral stance and ensure musicians I admired lived up to a ethical or even expected standards of social norms I would be stuffed. Just imagine the metaphorical Christmas party. James Brown, Miles Davis and John Lennon in fine fettle. Shane MacGowan, Jim Morrison and Mark E Smith having a festive tipple and sing song joined by Nick Cave on piano with little Richard entertaining the youngsters. Fitting new locks on the bathroom before Chuck Berry rolls in and please nobody ask Mr Hendrix to keep an eye on the Turkey. The man’s a total space cadet. Edit: And I haven’t even mentioned Keith Moon ..
