1. My first bass was an Encore Precision copy that I bought at school. Havent had another precision since until I bought my most recent acquisition an Aerodyne in blue as recently displayed here on an NMD thread. For those of you who didnt see it, this is its current state...
2. Badly Stuffed Bears played at the Nags Head in Belper last night. Our first gig at this venue which has only started live music on Saturday nights since the new landlady took over a few months ago. It does seem to be getting a bit of interest locally, hence we played to a pretty busy room. I suppose it also helps that I live 400 yards away and that a few of my mates came down including my other band Water for Dogs. No pressure then. As it was we had a great night, our guitarist Henry describing it as one of the best pub gigs he has done for a few years. Went down this morning to pick up my gear and I have been cordially invited to pop back one evening this week and "bring your diary as you ARE playing here again" although she is worried that after such a good night she is not sure there is enough beer in the cellar to last until their next delivery on Tuesday! It looked like this; although I remember it more like this; busy, lots of people dancing, and a little bit blurred...
3. Morning all! Thanks again for a great day. It was good to meet friends from last year and make some new ones this. Also, thanks to those of you who were either brave or foolhardy enough to l,et me loose with your gear. Thanks also from Mrs S for all of your kind comments regarding her baking. We are now working our way through a dining table part covered in cake! Hope to see you all again at some point. C.

5. The Badly Stuffed Bears are playing the Sausage and Cider Festivals in both Derbyshire and Leicestershire this year. The Derbyshire one is here; https://www.facebook.com/pages/Derbyshire-Sausage-Cider-Family-Festival/529413730478758?fref=ts (the picture halfway down is our guitarist Henry taken on stage at last years event - music stand not included) The other band I am in - Water for Dogs - are playing the Exile festival in the Derbyshire hills this year for the first time. Both bands are hoping for some more bookings before the year is out.
6.
That's cool.....i like the pearl pick guard
Thanks, I saw a photo of one that was for sale online a while back and that had the pearl pickguard fitted. Kind of stuck with me and as soon as I was told this bass was for sale I knew what was going on in place of the black one that was fitted. It just looks "right" you know?
7. The neck on it feels even slimmer than my MIM Jazz Thunderpaws. I don't know if this is my mind playing tricks on me but it really does feel that way. and yes Kev I was very taken by your Precision but could not quite justify it at the time. I have to admit that this one I simply couldn't refuse. It was the combination of looks and weight (or lack of) that sold it to me. Hope to see you up Ripley some time then.
8. Great gig for the Badly Stuffed Bears at the Holly Bush, Marehay last night. Supported by "Boris and the Space Cadets" who did a set of punky, third-wave Ska - Timebomb etc and a Ska version of Phil Collins "another day in paradise" which was absolutely brilliant. We went on with our old school Ska and had a belting night finishing with One Step Beyond which again took the roof off. Well received by all present including the landlord who paid us a bit more than we agreed and is booking us again for later in the year as soon as he can get back to me with his diary. All good.
9.
That's a beaut.
Thanks, it's also a beast. The pickups are so hot that it blew an active USA Jazz into the weeds last night! the sound is just EPIC. When we were setting up last night I got this out of the case to put it on the stand and heard the support band guys behind me whisper a collective "F**k Me!" when they saw it. ...and then they heard it... It looks like my Jazz may be hitting the marketplace soon as I can't see this ever leaving my hands. Again, thanks to Andy for his work, and thanks to those on here who contributed to my decision to purchase it.
10. After seeking this esteemed forums experiences of the Fender Aerodyne Precision I went ahead and bought one. It needed work so it was shipped straight off to Andy (AJR1515 of this parish) to seek his attention. The usual pint at the Patternmakers exchanged (Doombar this time) along with the various bits I had purchased to complete the transformation of a good looking, lightweight, and original looking bass into an absolute stunner. I give you this: to this: I am sure Andy has done some more in-depth photos of the work he has done on this, but it now plays as good as it looks and will get it's first public outing on Saturday night with The Badly Stuffed Bears at the Holly Bush in Marehay, Ripley. I can not wait. Thanks Andy.
11. to further explain Andy's comment above....yup, I bought it. It is now in Andy's possession for his tender ministrations. NBD thread and photos to follow IF I ever get it back from Andy...
12. It is now pretty much confirmwd that I shall also be bringing a couple of basses with me. My Westone Thunder 3 fretless that appeared here recently in ANdy Rogers thread and a Fender Precision that has recently come into my possession. More on that to come in another of Andy's threads I feel... And Cake!!!
13. Played at the George in Belper last night, shaping up to be a good gig until the inevitable technical issues with the PA cost us half the audience! AAAARRRGGH! Anywhoo as it turned out once we got back up and running again those who had stayed enjoyed it, others came in later and we went down well. Gave a run out to the KAM lights I purchased recently (and they did the job splendidly) sold some CD's and had a couple of people ask us to sign them The night looked like this: That's how I remember it, purple, green and mildly out of focus due to the serving of Leatherbritches breweries Dr Johnson.
14. My worst was also drum related - when I played for a punk band in the nineties we used to swap round at the end of the night on the basis " the nights not over 'til the fat bloke sings" so drummer on vox, singer on guitar, guitarist on bass and me on drums. (I am an appaling drummer). One very inebriated night I went for a full-on smash of the snare drum but with a very loose grip on the stick. The resulting injuries were drumstick in the eye - not bad but couldn't see for a couple of days - and one broken index finger from the rim of the snare. due to my inebriation it didn't hurt until the morning. THEN it hurt.
15. Thank you chaps. I will at least get him to bring it with him so I can give it a try. Keep your eyes open for a NBD thread in the near future......possibly.
16. Morning all, A chap I know through the guitarist in one of the bands I play for is soon going to be parting with his Aerodyne precision and I have first refusal on it if I wish. Unfortunately he lives a LONG way from me so I can't just nip and try it out any time I like but has has offered to bring it up with him in a week or so when he is visiting our guitar player for a few days. I am used to a Jazz and in the past I have struggled with a precision neck as being a bit too chunky for my liking but I am told this one is more like a J than a P (or somewhere between the two). If so, I may just pull the trigger on this but if someone can give me a pointer on what they are like to play, and what the tonal differences will be using a P/J configuration compared to a standard Jazz that would be great. At the end of the day obviously the best thing is to try it, I just don't want to make him drag it up here if there is no chance of my being comfortable with it.
17. Afternoon, Next week Water for Dogs are playing another hometown gig this time coinciding with the launch of our 5 track EP "Sounds like Something" Hopefully going to get a friend to run a DJ set before the off as well. Here, have a poster; and a photo from last weeks gig at the Flowerpot in Derby;
18. I have just had an email apology from someone at Thomann regarding my cancelled order. Apparently they only had one of the PJ5's and it sold before I placed my order but apparently their computer only updates once every hour. That doesn't sound right to me? They did offer to put that toy Warwick to one side for me if I wanted it.... .....errr No.
19. Oh well, at least I got my email first My order was placed at 9:29 (or at least that is the time I received the simultaneous emails from Thomann and Paypal).
20.
This has happened quite a lot. I've received a shipping confirmation for mine, so I presume that's OK. But, it seems that their computer systems are not robust enough. One thing: What happens if the disappearing deko is part of a bigger order, made to dilute the shipping cost? I presume that in that case, the rest of the order will ship, and the shipping cost will be less diluted.
No idea on that, however in "Cutting off your nose to spite your face land" where I live they would get told in no uncertain terms where they can "deliver" the rest of their order to! (clue: it's not my house...)
21. Well, I have just had an email from Thomann to ell me that the guitar I ordered is no longer available and an order could not be generated for you. NOT IMPRESSED! Although Mrs S can be heard giggling faintly in the background...
22. I have just bought one of the PJ5's as I always wanted to experiment with a 5 string and they are still showing stock available! How many of these things have they got? By the way, thanks to Annoying Twit for starting and updating this thread. I am not entirely certain that Mrs S would echo that sentiment though...
23. I have just bought one of the KAM power Partybars as shown above from an Ebay store for £120. When it arrived it was brand new and still boxed. We are using that for a backwash and then three floor standing KAM units linked together using the DMX cables that come with them as uplighters at the front. It's a great set up and we got the whole lot (including the partybar) for £250. Set them up in the dining room the other day on Sound to Light running off a laptop through the stereo. Mr S was NOT pleased when she got home from work...
24. Actually Andy, I may be able to lay my hands on a 5 string fretless unfinished Jazz neck... I think we need another chat.
