1.
Surely that is part of some longer video?
Yes, you don't get to see the bit where the narrator gets beaten to death with the soles of his own shoes.

  2.
and to show something completely different and how a simple essentially one note bass line can make a song I would also add '20th Century' by Brad from the album Shame.

Blinding song! remember when I first saw that vid on Raw Power/Noisey Mothers! Awesome choice!

  3.
does that need to be tapped?

    c
Well no.. but.. hell yeah!! bit of a slow bassline to tap, but it'd look more showey on stage. Besides.. he could use the spare hand to drink beer with lol

  4. Sorry for the lazy answer.. But by far my happiest times were with the following rig:

    EMG pups - (P style)
Ampeg SVT2 Pro on Harma Valves
    Hartke 4.5XL cabs x2

(I havent included fx and signal processing)

Absolutely LOVED the tone.. but was such a hefty rig.

I downsized to using an AMPEG SVP PRO (that I sold) and poweramp, which was still fantastic and then finally shrunk down to the truely awesome TECH SOUNDSYSTEMS cabs. That I foolishly sold! DOH! lol lol

I have managed full circle having bought and sold loads of kit and am using an SVP again (awww I missed it!!) having toyed with buying the likes of *insert name of uber hifi preamp here* etc etc.

I haven't actually had the chance to use my Epifani cab in anger yet, so I can't add it to the list just yet!

Gotta say though, I'm with Alex on the SVP thing. A really great preamp, despite its foibles.

  5. oh and whilst I'm at it.. with the signal chain you have given, anything you plug into the mixer will be affected by the guitar and bass effects too, is this what you want from the set up? (so, if you plug in a drum machine, it will get any noises you have on your effects)

  6.
I asked him about this in my interview for BGM - he said he had a night onstage with Talas when he suddenly looked at the bass neck and all of the positions made sense, suddenly he could see his way up and down it.

    Which is nice.

    Dave
Hi Dave, Yes I think Billy had mentioned something similar about having a 'moment of clarity' mid gig, on one of his videos.

  7. Ask Billy what his last 'lightbulb' moment was where he finally got something that clicked (as per the BC thread)

Oh.. and ask him "If he had one question to ask any bass player (live or dead) what would it be?" - err.. as per the BC thread!

  8. It is unusual for all major suppliers to be so short of them. I suspect the reason as suggetsed above is that Jon probably ordered them originally in time, but couldn't have known therewas what appears o be a world shortage!! Sometimes even just getting EMG pups is a hassle!

  9. OK, I'm fed up with this. Look, if you people want to discuss if a price is good or not and get hostile, do it away from the forum.

Frankly I no longer care who is at fault. I'm closing this thread. The seller is welcome to advertise his sales as is anyone else but I don't think this behaviour is acceptable.

  10. No problems! I mentioned EMGs as they are one of my fave. I think if there is anothe rpup you particularly want, you *may* need to get the body routed a bit more, as the standard Tobia pups seems to be a bit of an 'inbetween' size.

FYI, the stock pups and preamp are made by a company called mighty-mite and rebadged for 'Tobias'

  11. Well Emmanuel, you have certainly had the 'warmest' thread in the introductions forum I have read for a while. I hope that despite the 'banter' you have been able to extract the useful advice from the discussion.

I also hope you enjoy your stay on the good ship BC. It's pretty chilled out here! -honest!

    See you on the board...

  12.
rite,
just a quick question I bought a dbx 160a for my rig(got it off ebay for 75 quid!!!) just wondering where it is best to place in my rig. My mate told me to use the FX send and return with 100% wet but i was thinking straight into the compressor > amp head> speaker. Could any one please shine of little on the subject
In addition to the advice above, I actually mix a dry signal with my compression. So I still get all the OOMPH of the direct signal, but the Compression kicks in to even up the quiet stuff, by making it as loud as the direct signal. Hard to explain, really until you hear it. It's a technique that has been used for fattening up vocals for years. It works so well with my playing style.

So, with your own rig, you could actually use the FX loop and dial in the amount of dry signal with the mix control.

Beware though, If you want to use the compressor as a limiter to stop you from damaging your speakers from hug signal spikes, this isn't necessarily a good idea. I have excessive amounts of headroom, so have no need for a limiter.
