Yeah, can you post maybe a direct link to the area on Ishibashi site where you found that Precision.. ohh damn but I love it!!

I'm not finding it the most helpful site to navigate!

    Cheers

Sorry guys, I hadnt checked this thread for ages. The correct model number for this bass is:- PB70US TL BK - You'd have to contact Ishi' directly about it's availability. Mine was actually available from the catalogue when I asked. Looking back on it.. I suspect that Fender Japan may even have put a special order together for me, as those who have asked about them since are expecting that they may not be making them (for said catalogue).

I won't dwell on it, but you are unlikely to get one through the UK importers, unless they cobble one together out of spare bits.. something offered to me by one outlet. lol..

  2. I emailed Tobias/Gibson last year.. Forget the name of the person I had a response from.. said that they were going to arrange distribution in the UK *eventually* but I suspect it never happened. So, it looks like the US highspec Tobias basses are probably easier to get via import.

However you can get a korean made 'Tobias' through SoundControl.

  3.
+ 1 for the Powersoft K10!!!!
Very impressed with my Powersoft.. I almost in a moment of madness thought about selling it recently. Thankfully I realsied I was an idiot.. where else are you gonna get 2kRMS in a 9Kg 1u rack?

yes, 1K per channel is excessive and not necessary.. but hey.. the cab is 1500W RMS.. may as well have the headroom for the F# string ;o)

  4.
Like Dood said, the BK looks amazing. I plan on getting some of these to power the rig for me and my guitar player when we hit the road.
I've owned a couple of BK poweramps.. literally bombproof ;o)

  5.
The amps are rubbish because they are cheap, they are old and they are thrashed by players who don't care what they do to them!
Yes.. cheap.. easy to replace after those who have no respect for other peoples equipment have trashed them... Then complain becasue the cost of room hire went up. Grrr!
But, my view is that you're in a rehearsal room for the band to learn to play a number together so the sound doesn't matter.
A bad sound at band practice is not good.. for me, its annoying and doesnt do the band any favours. I believe a band should aim to get the very best sound in rehearsal.. and record it. Music is for listening to, so should it not be nice to listen to even when learning songs? Just my 2p. ;o)

  6. Yes, obviously with such a big string and a dangerously low action, there's more rattle than that of a B string.. but to be honest, it's not that noticeable. the 175 gauge helps with the whole tension issue at such a low tuning.. and is quite 'playable'.

I won't be up north for a while.. but my new band*, I'm sure, if all goes well will have an opportunity to travel a bit.. I'm hoping so anyway!

    * still in it's infancy, so no website etc yet.

Oh, and against popular belief, these strings are actually really easy to get hold of. I have a batch on their way now ;o)

  7. I'm struggling to understand how a completely passive circuit can producs an output boost. My assumption is that there is some kind of impedance balancing transfomer or other involved, as a +3dB boost would be possible without any derogation of tone.

Obviously, trade secrets n' all... not fussed.. but I'd be interested in learning how this works! I'm a techy geek!!!

  8. Yamaha P5000 / P7000 for a very good workshorse with loads of functionality. Highly recommended

Powersoft / all models for superlightweight and very loud ;o) - bit pricey in comparison, but you do get what you pay for.. the very best - most of the range come in a 1u rack, from 700W up to the K20's 5000W RMS per channel ;OD.

  9.
Don't use a laptop while playing bass.

I use guitar pro and youtube while i'm playing to work on things or to play along, and I just electrocuted myself slightly. I had one hand on the strings and the other on my laptop.

Has anyone ever died through being electrocuted by a bass/guitar? I don't necessarily mean a laptop, maybe a mic would do the same if it wasn't earthed properly...
lol... cute. If you have been electrocuted, I'm afraid you are very dead, by definition ;o)

um.. my advice.. Don't eat yellow snow. lol.. Cheers Mr Zappa.

Oh yes! I remember George signing up to Bassworld ages ago, after I dropped him a mail. Nice playing!

  11. How about a challenge and pick a piece yourself? Something like a piano / keyboard thang, that you can split the left and right hand with. A pop song?

I was messing about with Chasing Cars by that ther' Snow Patrol outfit, the otherday. A well known tune with 3 simplistic parts (bass, melody and the little guitar part).. I didn't spend a great deal of time on it, but could be effective tapped.

  12.
I'll just give a bump to this thread - I just got one of these (trading it for my EBS 350) and i just love the warmth and power of these heads - I need to change my cab now so there might be a proline 15" on here for a silly price...

Anyway - these are great amps and this a really great price for one - big up the Epiphani...

    M
Well the last 502 that came up caught my eye too. I have a powersoft poweramp.. and choosing whether or not I should part with it to make up a full Epifani rig is certainly causing anguish, as it was last time! I'm torn, as trying to get an Epi to hear with my current rig is just short of impossible! When I bought my cab , I ran an Epi through it and the sound was lush!

  13.
you will see the only reason I am offloading is I am pretty much giving up playing.
*shock* Jam! Please tell me this is a temporary blip!

The force is still strong within you, young padewan! ;o)

  14. Hi! Welcome...

I can't help thinking that selling the 4.5XL to get 2 VX's is a bit of a false economy. I would do my best to stick with the better cab. Especially as the 2 other cabs will take up more space.. that I am assuming is the issue with keeping them at 'home'?
