On a related note, I wonder, in an anonymous poll, how many female members have experienced sexist content on this forum including that dressed up as "banter". I guess we won't know as they've probably just left.

The link above still works - but, you should drop a line to @Ashdown Engineering anyway via their website, they'll be able to help for sure.

The Geddy Jazz seems to have been a decent seller. If the instrument offers something you can't ordinarily get in a standard model, I don't see the harm. The Joe Dart basses have been something quite different for EBMM. A P bass with a slightly different colour of paint is a bit much but where the instrument deviates enough from standard that you can't replicate it by swapping a couple of parts, then it's all good. The Wimbish Spector, for example, like the Geddy, has a neck you can't get, otherwise, which legitimatises them, in my opinion.
Endorsements do work because, even if a signature model doesn't take your fancy, having the popular musicians of the day seen with your instruments in your hand creates an indelible link between the music you love and that brand, whether you realise it or not. Sadowsky might make sublime J basses but there'll never be pictures of Jaco playing one. Hendrix could've stayed in tune if he played an Ibanez RG but he and his music will always be associated with Fender Strats.
I'm generally not one for signature instruments but, as a young man, I had the opportunity to buy a Tony Iommi signature model, during his brief stint with Patrick Eggle, for half price and it would haunt me to this day if I hadn't made it mine. Aside from being a very, very nice guitar, they only ever made 48 of them, of which this is #23.
And, to answer the OP's question, the correct answer has been mentioned a few times. Mark King, take a bow 🙂
Ahh, an ole guitarist of mine had a Patrick Eggle, I can't remember the model but it was a wonderful guitar that refused to make a bad sound!

Everything that Flea plays is assembled out the box... and wasn't specifically designed for Flea... with the exception of the Fleabass... which was a failure. Go figure.
It easy to manufacture "signature" basses, when they are basically assembled out the parts bin... and then just given a different finish/decal. To do that is not a significant investment.
Think about every bass player that you know...who has bought something purely on the fact that their favourite bass player uses it?
I mean, look at Dave Swift. He's a list of as long as he is tall. Who has ever bought anything that he has used because he does?
I actually have! He's a good guy, genuine. He's played a million sessions with the very best musicians and with some of the best gear out there. You can't deny that he has a huge amount of gear experience.

No player is 'endorsed'
The artist endorses the product of the company - not the other way around.
The question should be 'who has endorsed products of the most companies?'
Thank you! I've repeated this SO many times!
Sponsorship vs Endorsement!

I was going to make a joke about Forty on E, only to discover the song in mind appears to be drop tuned to Eb..
But what is the song? 🧐
-
Now that is STUNNING!! I'd never really been a fan of the solid finishes, this however is just drool-worthy!!

I am very much enjoying this thread! I am looking forward to seeing it completed. I'm chomping at the bit waiting for my donor bass to arrive. It's in a container somewhere in the middle of the sea right now I guess!

I am just the same - I've long come to accept that I don't know what some of my favourite songs are really about. You just need to know how to focus this skill and use it to your advantage rather than thinking of it as an inadequacy
To be honest, it was such a light bulb moment for me when I realised that deep down, before I could play bass, I would be a bassist - if anyone ever asked me to hum a song, it would always be the bass line first!

The Queen movie Bohemian Rhapsody got a massive slating too. It's almost a sign that it will do well when the critics pan 'em.. 48 industry awards in 2019, Box Office Gross $911 million.
(ok, so other than a very short hidden cameo, the band themselves didn't act in the film)

Having taught students from the ground up many, many times, we've already covered a huge amount of ground even before we get to Modes. I feel there are necessary steps in progressive learning that should be covered and understood before a beginner dives in to something like Modes. (and no, that's not because learning the Modes is hard, by the way!)
More often or not, if a student comes to me to tell me about Modes their misunderstanding has come about because of the lack of theory preparation. The very building blocks, as it were.
An elementary example would be "I'm playing Aeolian, because this is the Aeolian pattern on the bass."

Yeah, yeah @Dood 😁 - reminds me of the time I visited a guy at his desk at work to help with some tech stuff. His dept were being moved, so there were lots of packing crates everywhere. This guy had packed everything away neatly, except one crate he had "accidentally" left open - full of boxes of Durex. "Oh my, that wasn't supposed to be left open" he gasped theatrically, with a huge cheese eating grin on his face as he closed the lid.....
A colleague did later point out that it would have been much more impressive if the boxes were empty....
A friend of mine went in to hospital for an exploratory examination many years ago. He was slightly perturbed when after laying down on the bed the male doctor arrived with a large tube of KY in hand. It was then he learned that KY wasn't just used for one thing... lol

Joking aside, I'm guessing KY would do the trick? The thing I liked about the original lube was that the excess was easy to rub into the skin to get it off my fingers - it's not as greasy feeling as Vaseline.
KY is perfect for the job. A funny story: I ran out of the tube that came with my ear plugs and the cheapest suitable lube online ended up being KY, so I ordered a SMALL tube, the emphasis here being on the word SMALL.
So imagine my thoughts when a larger than expected box arrived on my doorstep. The tube is so large that even those at the back of the venue could easily see the KY logo!!

If I didn’t already have an Eden 410, and two Berg 212’s, I’d have this, as I’m in Norfolk.
This should fly out I reckon
I'll look after your 2x12's and keep them warm and safe!! - I'd love to hear my B|Amp through them both! Good lord I bet it sounds delicious with both of those on!

Same ha ha! Although I have a couple of things I could throw in a rack case with it. I still don't need it , but Powersoft... yummy!

I did a deacon build on a vintage v4 years ago and used all Wilkinson gold hardware. Looked and played great. In retro spec if I'd have dropped a set of solder less geezer pick ups in, it would have been a killer bass for about £350.
I happen to have a set of GZR's for my up and coming build!

Yeah I have a Vintage (the JHS brand) fretless jazz loaded with Wilkinson hardware and it's not too shabby at all.
Wilkinson WJBL200 - I actually bought a big pile of gold hardware off a chap on FB ages ago as I was planning another P bass build, so I have a set waiting for the donor bass to arrive. Of course, they also come in chrome as well as black.

Shopping list...
Gold Strap locks - Schaller?
Gold Neck Plate - probably “F” stamped and in a black plastic tray?
Gold Neck Plate screws
Gold Machine Heads - Hipshot HB2 or Gotoh (might go Wilkinson if budget starts to get fried)
Black/White/Black Pickguard - ideally with the truss adjust notch
Gold Pickguard screws
Gold Knobs (from pictures they look like dome rather than flat top)
Gold Jack retaining nut & washer (if this even exists)
Gold Bridge - Schaller roller (I'm on it!)
Gold string retainer (square, not round)
Anything else?
The Wilkinson midels that look like the Gotoh FB30 are actually not bad at all for the money, better than those things they but on some cheaper Fender models!- 1
