That review is the only one I've come across which seems crazy, funny because theres also a review of the Sire P5 which caught my attention too. Instantly subscribed to the channel! I had a little chat with Cici in the comments and seems like a really solid bass. The neck loves beautiful!

Just wanted to see if anyone else had any additional views on it, perhaps has had it for a while etc.

I've not reviewed it yet either! I do have three Cort basses here I am shooting video for, they'll be live in coming weeks I hope, then, maybe I should track down Schecter's distribution for a word!

Absolutely.  If I hadn't of gone down the Helix route, I may well have gotten the B|Amp instead. It really does appear to be the quintessential bassist's bass amp.

The Helix and B|Amp are a wonderful pairing! I gigged with either or both many times! I've moved to the Neural DSP QuadCortex and am even planning on profiling my Bergantino cabinets in to the QC for when I won't be using backline. Technology is so much fun these days! I won't ever sell B|Amp. Maybe if I had an opportunity to get the MKII model, but really, right now, there's no need. I wouldn't mind an attitude bass eventually though!

I find with onboard compression, you tend to lose a bit of volume. With a pedal at least you can boost your signal.

I'm currently using a TC vintage comp - which is a copy of T Rex Comp Nova. I don't use it with My Stingray as that sound a bit compressed already (to my ears anyway), but I do like it with my passive basses.

It would be really useful if all pedal compressors came with light indicators, so you can see what's happening. I can only think of the Cali 76 (big one) and MXR Bass compressor that has this functionality.

The Darkglass Hyper Luminal also has LED indicators as does the Empress Bass Compressor. Some have an LED that changes in brightness depending on "the amount of compression" too. I like the Trondheim Audio SkarBass which uses a three colour LED approach.

The Spectracomp is the second pedal on my list after the Cali76. I've constantly read great things about it along with the Cali76 but its a hell of a lot cheaper so I may go for it instead.

I also really liked the Seymour Duncan Studio Bass and the Darkglass Hyper Luminal. Both very good compressors. An interesting contender is the compressor on the EBS Billy Sheehan Deluxe pedal. Another reason why I keep one, even though it's better known for being a drive pedal. A nice squishy "opto-alike" compression to fatten up the sound a bit.

If you're playing a lot of melodic parts, you may want to investigate multi-band compression. It's more transparent than single band and high note don't get "swallowed" by the low end.  The TC Spectracomp is highly regarded for multiband and single band compression.  (To be honest, if I was in the market for a comp pedal, this is what I would buy).

As far as single pedals go, I really rate the Spectracomp and the three knob compressor, Hyper Gravity for their multiband and parallel functionality. There are very few amplifiers (even effects units) on the market that can come even close to what the Spectracomp has under the bonnet when accessing the editor software.

That said, there's just one amplifier that does compression the way that I need and thats the Bergantino B|Amp. It offered (blendable) parallel or series compression along with it's 4 band parametric EQ, HPF and LPF filters - and custom drive circuits. It would be my recommendation every time. Sounds superb!

  6. Specifications are like the newer model:

    https://www.cortguitars.com/product/item.php?ca_id=103020&it_id=194&page=1

but I am pretty sure that the fretboard is Rosewood on my model and the neck could be Wenge and Maple. Either way, I think a better combination.

    Ahha! Here:

The bass is used and unlike my usual sales, it has dips and dings over it, especially on the leg cutaway but nothing that actual impedes playing. There are obvious patches where the instrument finish has become shiny through having been played but it has no mechanical issues. Electronics are also fine as I type.

From a distance it still looks fine and its not as if you're going out gigging with an ugly instrument, but do not expect it to be perfect.

Collection only UNLESS you arrange your own courier and insurance. I do have a decent shipping box to send it in, but shipping is your responsibility entirely.

I'm pretty sure you'll know all about this one. It's my favourite drive pedal. This particular example is my spare and thus has never been used. It's still in the bag, in the box with the included Y cable.

I'd absolutely keep it if it weren't for rising debts forcing me to let some of my favourite gear go.

Shipping is probably going to be around £8 Special Delivery mainland England delivery which I will absorb, anything higher will need to be added on - i.e. shipping further afield. Price reflects condition. (Lowest web prices ~£170 for this model, £215 for the Ultimate).

    Payment by bank transfer.

  8. My years of chasing a channel strip style signal path in my own bass gear has lead me to my fave amp, the Bergantino B|Amp. The parametric EQ, parallel compression and bendable drive elements alone are worth the saving of rack space. I must find a picture of my old "touring" behemoth with it's 10u rack! The whole lot fits in my gig bag now!

If the B|Amp didn't exist, I think I'd be trying to get the Scheps Omni Channel Plugin from Waves or the UniChannel (which is excellent) from United Plugins working on hardware!

I've picked up a lovely shortscale P. The existing pickup has very high poles and as I like to use the pickup top as a ramp that doesn't really work.

In most basses I stick EMGs in but I'd like to keep this bass passive.

Can anyone recommend a good covered P bass pickup, or at least one with visible poles that are flush with the plastic?

Not looking to spend loads, the bass was under £150 so I don't want to put £150 pickup in it!

    Any ideas?

EMG's PHZ is a passive P pickup with covers. I think I have a set somewhere but I have earmarked the Geezer set for an incoming project.

Look at the Dimarzio Will Power P pickups too. They have tons of mid range and sound pretty good too. For something a little sexy looking and passive, Billy Sheehan's new Dimarzio Relentless pickups with curved ramped tops.

  10. Stereo Chorus following at least one high gain distortion pedal. On a restricted budget I'd say go for one of the little Zoom pedals and you'll be able to get a sound similar to this. Even the Zoom B1 and Zoom B1X models are good.

Its stunning mate and so very good to see you at the show too! It has been SO long and for a very brief moment it didn't twig that it was you - but that's more to do with my poor memory these days!

I've a little two input mixer made by Max of SFX-Sound. It's called a micro mix and it's a microphone pedal sized enclosure. - You can, if you are handy with a soldering iron make up a passive mixer network just resistors, even mounted inside the jacks of a custom Y cable, but its handy to know what the idea values would be.

Thanks! Have you picked up any of the recent Artist builds?

I’m afraid not, but I’m looking to video review Jon’s basses when I can.

  16. I’m following this build for sure! Jon Shuker is a very talented luthier with an incredible attention to detail. He’ll be able to build what you want. I should know too, I’ve been very picky and incredibly detailed with all my builds (and the next one I have planned) and he has delivered every time exceeding expectations!

Hello all ACC attendees over the weekend! I was there too. I'll stick something up on Sm later, but to be honest I didn't take too many pictures. It was however brilliant to see some familiar and friendly faces there, even if the attendance at the G&B show was rather low. It was more of a social for me versus goin to try basses out, but I did talk to brands about arranging video reviews.

We popped in to the drum show yesterday and it was a huge difference. Lively, lots of noise and bustle. I enjoyed the performances in the hall and that so many brands were attending. It's a shame the G&B side of things didn't turn out as well. PRS left on Saturday afternoon I understand?

If you were there and I didn't say hi / didn't recognise you / we've not met in person before outside of BC, then it's a shame as it would have been a cool opportunity to make acquaintances given that it was actually hard to fill the whole day with just bass gear!

Those brands who did attend and stick it out deserve a huge pat on the back and thanks for all the effort they've put in as I know those pitches were not cheap! So, from me, it's a huge thank you!
