For Gretsch to do an Electromatic Billy Bo bass.

There’s a fair glut of the 40th anniversary stuff reduced in there just now it seems, skinny strings and basses.

I’m sure that for a brief period in about ‘94 (not sure for how long) it depended what the model was as to where the ‘Made in Japan’ was printed. From memory, the Vintage models had the spaghetti logo on the headstock and the ‘Made in Japan’ was above the s/n on the reverse of the dusty end of the neck. Standard/Contemporary models had the transition logo on the headstock with ‘Made in Japan’ also on face of the headstock.
So, not sure whether it was a similar kind of thing with the CIJs in the mid 00s for a bit?

Just a thought would this do “BEAD” stringing? Anybody know?
Wouldn’t have thought there’d be an issue. I’ve routinely done it with Precisions (albeit Fenders) in the past and still have one that’s been strung that way for 20 years or more. Might need the nut slots widening, but otherwise I doubt there’s be a problem. Just my opinion there though!- 1

Echo the above. It must be a bore to many to hear me so frequently wax lyrical about mine. They got it so, so right with this model.

Thanks a lot !
Sounds like a cool setup.
Always used to be a bass-cable-amp guy but got into pedals during the pandemic and now have too many and not talented in dancing.
No problem! Their stuff is rock solid. There are plenty of options out there for splitters and loopers of course, but there’s no need to look any further in my experience.- 1

Yep, I use an ABY of theirs. Cracking bit of kit. I’m in a bass/drums two piece so do a bass/faux guitar thing so use it to switch between channels and/or have both on.
I’ve also got one of their triple loopers. Not used it yet but may do to switch between dirt pedals as part of the above rig if I decide to add more pedals to the chain.
My pedalboard is at the rehearsal space so no pics just now though…- 1

After much, much, much consideration of late, and despite having gone to largely shorties over the last 3 years, I acquiesced to my inner beast and picked this up from @Bassman Sam of this parish today.
Firstly, thanks for being a diamond with last minute arrangements etc. Sam and the best of luck with the knee op as and when that happens.
Anyway, whilst far from a new offering these days, the bass is as good as I’d read and hoped for. The pickups are absolutely bloody marvellous. Very much looking forward to cranking it through a big amp with my massively noisy drummer.
Thanks again, Sam.

One respondent to my post was all three of the first, even if correct in all respects. A population of many millions mean a wide selection of all sorts .......

Have to admit I’m tempted to try the short scale version of this.
Likewise.

Rather slow - about 30 seconds to give me all the in-stock 5-string 34" right-handed used basses
Maybe they’re checking stock levels in real time 🤣

Thanks both - i'll stick it in For Sale 👍
Also just as a heads up given what you’ve said initially above, you will need to put a price on it, so best to get all of your ducks lined up prior to posting. Best of luck with it! -
Nice they’ve not gone modern with the front panel and kept it looking suitable.
Agree they may struggle to sell (the SS one at least), at least in part given the stellar job Nathan Hilbish has made of his own Sunn clones in recent years. Absolutely love my Hilbish Design Beta preamp.

I’m no Hofner nut so don’t have lots of info, though from the model numbers you should be able to find out plenty more from t’web.
The first one is, I think, a model 189, and the second one a model 185.

Great to hear. It seems Fair Deal has had quite the upturn in both their available stock and general approach since Gaz moved to them from PMT some time back.
And, erm…where are the pics?!!!

Seems like sticking with it is the way to go, I’m deadly curious to see what’s under the pickguard though.
It will go for a spruce up and a sort out of the input jack etc before too long. When that’s ongoing I’ll ask my repair guy to take some shots under the hood if he can. Curious myself!- 1

Finding the right bits, probably importing them and then making it 'stock' will cost way more than you think and Im not sure you'd see the return back. Man, if you like it, it's yours, sounds and plays well and if you don't need the cash just leave well alone. There isn't another one like it out there so just enjoy it would be my advice.
Cheers Walshy. I did do some very preliminary searches for pickups etc a long while back and promptly binned the idea off then due to the £££ involved. Must admit I’ve not searched about since. It probs answers the question for me that I’ve left it as is since getting it. Always worth getting views from others though, so thanks to all.
It certainly will stay with me long term irrespective of owt else.
