Basically except the exposure is heavy Radio One playlisting either side of the show plus your set on iPlayer, which is an actual reliable way to make a bit of cash!

Same setup as Glastonbury really - labels pay for their big artists to do it at a loss because they know the benefits are ultimately worth it.

Absolutely this. And also..They are rather mainstream. And they are rather radio friendly. Christ, it’s not like they’re exactly Cannibal Corpse is it?!

  2. Morning all,

Taking my lad (11) to see Kiss in a week or so - his first gig. Does anyone have any recommendations for ear protection for him please?

Given he’s a pre-teen the more kiddie designed over the head jobs aren’t going to fly, but I’m also not sure that he wouldn’t inadvertently mess with in ear types given it’ll be a new experience wearing them. Any thoughts or experiences with this would be most appreciated.

  3. I’d suggest that you don’t lack the passion as you say, otherwise you wouldn’t want to play again, if that makes sense.

My advice would just be to get started again, play at home alone, then along with some records to get yourself back up to speed and a bit more comfortable, then find a suitable band/informal jam nights/whatever. It’s crazy how being ‘out there’ playing from time to time can improve your playing, outlook and confidence levels, especially if they’re relaxed informal affairs.

I started playing when I was 14 and have had periods of a few years at times between bands where I’ve barely played. The above worked for me each time, though obvs YMMV.

    Good luck with it!

  4. Shame to see there are a few comments that immediately went down a route the OP was clearly trying to avoid. Given that, maybe it’s not surprising they’ve not been forthcoming with further info.

I’m sure the OP feels far more enlightened now some have suggested losing weight. Im sure that had never occurred to them before. 🙄

  5. Ned’s Atomic Dustbin at The Crossing in Brum tonight. Never been a massive fan, but two bassists so why not.

Then seeing Boris (the band, not the lying philanderer) tomorrow at Settle Victoria Hall of all places. A nice band road trip with my drummist.

  6. A very hopeful yes. Especially given what the original Rascals now go for.

It'll be a different beast to the Fender version by the look of the PUs and controls with just a vol and tone and a selector switch.

Hopefully it’s not stupidly heavy either.

Like the green, love it in black (I always do with basses). A mirrored or black scratchplate on one of these would look ace.

I'm using Ernie Ball slinky 5 strings just using the heaviest 4 some the low A# string is a .130 since I'm only a semitone below a standard 5 string, I assumed that would be the right setup

This may not be relevant now as you’re not happy with the results, but with that gauge and EB strings, you don’t need to be spending money on 5 strings per pack and having a stash of surplus Gs. The EB Beefy Slinky set is 65-130.

However, if I knew nothing of BD or Basschat and was searching on the internet to see if I should use them or not and came across some of the posts here, I might get an unduly negative impression if those posts were to go unchallenged.

Fair enough, but I’ve seen nowt in this thread personally when dipping into it over the weeks and months that suggests the posts don’t reflect genuine real world examples. I don’t think anyone is trying to throw a business under a bus here, bass-centric or not.

I’ve never used BD myself, but there seems to be balance in this thread, with both positive and negative experiences shared. So no different to what you might find on Trustpilot, for example (where, as an observation, the limited reviews are also at opposite ends of the spectrum).

  9. Haven’t dealt with them directly (yet, though they usually have one or two basses that make me hover above the ‘buy’ button), but the existing thread on them on here, and the endorsements above, back them up pretty soundly.

As has been mentioned, they’re a small business. They have to protect themselves against being screwed over too. Payment on receipt and checking of the instrument isn’t that unusual a concept tbh, and makes sense for them as an independent retailer. Always best to check though!
