Where are you @mr4stringz? (PM me if you like) you are most welcome to try it out.

Cheers FB! Am in deepest, darkest Birmingham. In fairness, my two Mustangs and my Dano are more than enough to cover my shortscale needs, but I do keep getting intrigued by these.

  2. AIC will always be one of my favourite bands. Starr and Inez both absolute bass monsters, with no flashiness.

Mike Starr really was and remains a much underrated player. My favourite AIC bassline (as harrowing and just damn bleak as the subject matter of the song is) is Junkhead. The bassline in the chorus with the vocal harmonies running along simultaneously still blows me away every time

Oddly, I’ve always been fine with post-Staley AIC, but the MITB clip above doesn’t show William DuVall in a great light vocally. He normally smashes the chorus in that IME.

  3. Don’t think there’s anything out there that says explicitly if it’s a replacement or an addition, but the V1 was still getting plugged by Nordstrand on socials a couple of days back and they posted this on their (very) brief V2 demo on Instagram. That maybe suggests both will be available, initially at least.

  4. Mr. Phylzzz - I’d seen them mentioned by the guys in Melvins (who guest on their most recent album).

I’m no good at genre descriptions, but there’s a fair chance of you like Melvins and/or the sort of stuff AmRep put out you may like them.

  5. My first ever ‘proper’ bass purchase (after the dog of an Encore P copy and a far better Vantage PJ that I learned on) was a (at the time) fairly recently released natural finish Patrick Eggle Milan IV that I’d so heavily set my heart on at 18 (‘94ish) when some money was released to me that had been sat in trust. Spent £800 on it. A dumbass move. In my youthful ignorance, I had no clue the neck was a state. It didn’t last long.

I try and look at things positively where I can though. The massive desire soon after to get as far away from that bass as possible led me to proper Precisions, a habit I’ve only broken recently with the JMJ Mustang.

  6. Nice work. I nearly bought one of these back when they came out. I’ve always loved the mish mash of different bits from different things, as it were.

It’s not the one that flew straight out as soon as it went into Rich Tone Music a few days back was it?

There's a ebay seller that certainly does, and they fit! he will also send you a paper template as a check prior to ordering too, unfortunately I can't recall the name, it was current about 18 months ago (I'll see if I can locate the name) but have a squint on ebay in the meantime..

    earlpilanz?

  8. How did you pay for the goods? If on a debit or credit card contact your card issuer and ask them to instigate a chargeback for goods not received. I know there’s the frustration of a previously good seller letting you down, but it’s not for you to chase this with the courier, and I wouldn’t persevere with that anyway personally, as it’s likely to result in much success IME.

Every time I pick up my  JMJ mustang, I smile. I've had it a couple of years now. I would try a vintera but for me, there's no need.   P bass player for 33+ years.

    now, mustang all the way

Exactly my journey, minus about 5 years.

I know it's been a while since this thread, but I'm interested in whether others have had customer service problems with Andertons.

Until now, my experience has been positive. However, I'm now embroiled in a three-way tussle with Andertons and Fender over an Ultimate Precision bass which is considerably less than a year old - even more considerably when this saga started.

Long story short, my tech discovered a bow in the neck which he said would result in future problems on the bass. I took it back to Andertons who, after two weeks agreed. There then followed a protracted exchange between Andertons and Fender, which took another week or two. Fender asked for photos, then asked for the bass back. More time passed. Then Fender came back and agreed there was a problem and that they would have to order a new neck from the US, which could take at least two more months.

TBH, I've bought various products from Andertons over the last couple of years. The Ultimate Precision bass is their most expensive non-custom bass. If Fender won't just step up and agree to a refund or replacement, I frankly expect Andertons to. They are supposed to have a special; relationship with Fender and not to take responsibility on behalf of the customer and refund or replace and then sort out with Fender, is pretty unacceptable.

Read up on the Consumer Rights Act. As an established retailer they should be well aware of the remedies within the Act and what is a ‘reasonable time’ to repair or replace. Getting clued up on what your rights are in these situations is invaluable. Knowing your onions and being clear in your expectations in line with the law may well mean their stance alters.

  11. I’ve used the T-Rex Quint in octave up mode, though always combined with distortion or fuzz. It’s very decent, and the ability to add a fifth is helpful if simulating guitar power chords especially. It’s no longer on my board though as it started to get a bit noisy. Need to take a proper look at it actually…

In terms of wanting something ‘natural’ sounding, you may struggle. All octave up effects on bass I e tried and used (to my ears at least) have a synthetic quality to them clean to one degree or another. Stick a dirt box after one at a decent volume and it’s far less noticeable.

Also, re: the Green Ringer. Believe that was an analog octave up, so clones will likely be also. You’ll get very different results with an analog pedal vs digital.

Send it back immediately, demand a replacement. I've had two of these and they're (usually) bulletproof. If you have an electrical problem buried in there, you don't want to spend the rest of your ownership waiting for it to obey Sod's Law.

Agree. I wouldn’t even give it any time given it’s so new. Straight back to the merchant for an exchange.

  13. I briefly had the 5-string version, more than anything to see if it was as decent as people were saying (it was) and to see if I could get in with a 5er 20 years after last playing one (I couldn’t).

In terms of mods all I did was replaced the pickup with a Warman pickup. A few people seem to have done that with them. Was definitely an improvement.

Dam fine looking bass. Am I correct that there is no Pup selector switch?

    Love the black version

Yeah, the absence of a selector switch isn’t ideal, but that’s a budget instrument for you I guess. That said, it’s a weird one to not have vvt controls at the very least.

The black one does look tidy though, and more so if it had a black scratchplate on it.
