Are those holes to reduce wind resistance when hitting the guitarist?
hahaha! I'm a guitarist aswell as bass but yes.. guitarists are a pain in the arse Especially ones who can play better than me.... damn them for being able to read music.. damn tem all haha
Extreme chambering! Get a set of forstner bits/holesaws and attack a bass with a drill press?
Already been there. Bought a cheap bass and experimented with it. Looks okay but it plays like cack. To be honest I just want a nicely built replica - sort of a tribute to Pepsi Tate.

Does anyone know of any luthiers who don't charge an arm and a leg? I'm looking to get a bass like this - but in black. I'm pretty flexible with hardware/materials. Providing the instruments well made and setup.
Now, THAT'S dangerous. People choosin a Uni just to be with a someone is sketchy. YMMV, but NONE of the couples I know who went to the same uni (cos they wanted to be 'togevah') stayed the distance...and regretted having to face their ex at every night out on the pull. Be wary, good sir...there's gonna be plenty more GASsing before you finish Uni!
true enough. we'll see what happens, I'm not gonna jump at anything despite how much I'm gassing. I got some gigs coming up near my uni so you never know, could have other nice aquisitions in the offing haha Basses, you can't live with em and you can't live without em
oooh, norty norty! I like it You have to be careful, as has been posted higher up, but if she fits well and you can play her better than her current owner then something has to be done to rectify the situation!
Indeed. I have a while to try n rectify the situation. Seriously gassing tho, like you wouldn't believe. Out of bass slanging her choice of uni was cos I go there
You’re running on very dodgy ground there my friend if the proprietor is not will to let her go…some things just aren’t meant to be. Put the GAS on hold
I'm biding my time. I'll admire from a distance but it seems she plays better in my hands Infact I've been asked to take her out of her case again on Saturday
-
Had my eye on a particular '90 for a while now. She's justifiable now since her location isn't too far away. Snag is I gotta prise her out of her owners hands. Saw her today and my god the pics on the listing don't do her justice!

Seriously what is that guy on? I loved how he described a Gibson Ripper once... slightly modified. In my way of speaking it translated to bearely recognisable
-
You either love 'em or loathe 'em Being a big Tigertailz fan I'd love to have one. Pepsi Tates one of my all time most influential players.
-
The Royal(e) Electra bass. As played by Pepsi Tate most notably. Anyone ever tried or seen one?
Here's a pic of one guy playing with his while another guy reaches around and plays too. All the while, another guy looks on and fiddles.
Haha nearly spat tea over the keyboard. I let the ol' '91 go. I didn't like how highly strung she was
They do come up from time to time - in fact Noirpunk on here got offered one for £40 - and refused! Admittedly he was playing out in Hungary & getting it back would probably have been a pain.
I still curse myself for that, should've gone with the gut instinct and bought it. I could've lowered that action with some perseverance dagnabbit! Lovely punchy sound to it aswell

If I had my own studio space I'd love that for recording guitar (specifically anything 70s classic rock sounding). Marc Bolan used to use those heads Got a thing for his guitar tone
We might have to change the title of the thread to TallyCrap Spotting: Another Melody P copy Is the light attracting them or what? J.
That ones exactly like mine - minus the thumb rest and bridge cover of course. Looks like I got mine on the cheap! Won't cost much to add the missing parts with aftermarket ones if I really wanted to either. -
nah sorry , wasn't very clear. What I mean is it looks like a standard Thunderbird with the bottom half mirrored on top so it's got two rounded horns at the neck end
-
Does anyone know what make/model the bass is that Leon Wilkeson played on the 'Old Grey Whistle Test' in 1975. Looks a bit like Entwhistles Fenderbird but slightly different. Sorta like the Thunderbird mirrored
looks nice, shame its priced at about twice as much as what he could get for it
Aye, I quite willingly paid £60 for mine on spec - the necks solid maple so it was worth it for the parts. -

That melody is identical to that P-Bass I picked up, albeit a darker stain This one has the thumb rest and bridge cover mine is missing - same scratchplate holes aswell. So my P is Italian then? -
My beautiful '91 is now in reading. I hope none of those more famous bassists play her
And don't get me started on how chuffed I am to finally have a rack that requires a two-handed lift
bahaha, dear this thread does make me laugh. I'm very much looking forward to trying my '91 with my 12" horn driver
-
Amen to that! I'm sure she'll be highly sort after, take good care of her and you'll have a valuable investment in your hands in no time at all!
Yes indeed. She's very much suited to my preferences. Infact she screamed out to me
