  1. That is really sad, when van Haley hit there was nothing like them
  2. That is lovely. Still so tempted but.. Maybe when I get back up to £3k of gigging money!
  3. No arguments with any of that!
  4. {curtain rises} D, E, F; You are not discussing the original subject, stop it!
  5. True, but I have a Zoom B3n and frankly I have virtually never used that
  6. I will take your word for it. I would say we lack a common framework in our understanding of music!
  7. Yes, I know spotify, and even have an account somewhere but I have forgotten the login for it. I have apple music though so found it on there. Certainly better than the live version (which was largely drums) but can't say I am a fan. Really dislike the vocals, so its hard to appreciate the music that much but I found the timing of the track off (especially on the vocals, but even before that). Obviously I can't say whether the timing would have annoyed me if I had never heard the original and I think it is probably as I have played that with a few bands, so have a big familiarity with it that it grates so much. But even without that, if you don't like the vocals I am guessing it isn't going to work
  8. Or as we call it, @Al Krow had moved onto other things by then
  9. I am obviously in no position to say that, as long as someone has value to someone, they have value. Yep.
  10. I don't have Spotify, so I could only see the version on youtube, which was live. Its quite well done and an interesting cover version, but not quite up there for me (even with other cover versions I have seen). Maybe the spotify version is a studio or something.
  11. Very little indeed. How did that work out, It sort of went quiet. I am guessing it failed to be anything special
  12. So its a 'you had to be there' thing? There is no link that I see between liking something and views on their level. I dislike Jaco, I couldn't listen to any of it, but he is clearly so far above my level that I would need to practice for my life to be like him on a bad day. Ditto quite a lot of jazz, or virtuoso guitarists, or Opera. My views on this are nothing to do with not liking. Maybe not the best examples, as both with the maths and the Picasso, I can understand what I don't understand about advanced maths, and I know I couldn't do picasso even if I tried, although there is other art that people value that I see little value or ability in. Allthough with the art world I realise there are some artists that people don't see the value in until they are told that it is important. Obviously it can mean something to others. For me, If quizzed I would not be able to tell the difference between Derek Bailey and a 3 year old child who found a guitar in a cupboard, in that I completely fail to see the ability or the art. I understand that something can be so far outside my sphere of perception that I cannnot even begin to see it, so this could be entirely my issue. Or it could be an emporers new clothes or it could be just a big windup to persuade people there is something there. I litterally have no way of telling. So, for me, he has absolutely no value as an artist (and again note, this isn't love or hate - I see that Kanye West has value as an artist, even if I dislike what he does), but that has absolutely no bearing on how it is percieved by someone else or anything anyone else has to care about.
  13. Maybe it would be too DSP heavy. None of the multiFX do what the SY1 does (although I am sure some MultiFX can do a few of the things that the SY1 can also do). The actual programing of what an SY1 does would be pretty tricky compared to the normal fare of DSP based units like time / amplitude / frequency effects.
  14. You would need an early night to get up early for the hair
  15. True, I guess they are trying not to reduce the oportunities for the SY1000, which does (as well as the GR stuff)
  16. A link to any of that would be good, I have never heard him play anything that to me sounding like anything I would consider musical. Not a question of who is better. I have heard several things by him and to me I hear nothing musical. That is obviously (due to the amount of people who do like him) what is musical to him (or you) is not the same to me. There are certainly lots of things I don't like which I can accept as musical, so I am not sure it is a taste thing. I have only really heard that and his stuff with david sylvian (although I don't listen to most of those tracks). I fully agree with Dads response there. Clearly not. If that is his most accessible stuff, then there isn't a condition I could get into where I will view any what he produces musical. Obviously, doesn't mean he isn't, or that it is invalid, or someone else can't like it but it is just not something I can actually listen to.
  17. Or as it is known, Derek Bailey at his best.
  18. Amazing what drugs you can get isn't it?
  19. I am literally not a Core customer because of that reason. Anything with fewer buttons than is not really that useful.
  20. Honestly I only had to adjust a truss rod once before I was on here. The only bass i ever had to adjust more than once was a Jazz.
  21. Why? What advantage would they have? I mean, certainly the modern digial ones, but noone likes anything that wasn't made before the 90s, so that doesn't help. The circuit of all those effects is well known, copies of them are commonly available, I can't see any advantage boss would have in emulating those circuits over Line-6.
  22. Not sure what you mean there? Boss's effects that everyone grew up with are analogue circuits, so there is no reason that Boss would be able to emulate them any better than Line 6 would. I don't think the issue is whether the system is better or not, I think it comes down to what is there. There are a lot of HX Stomps out there, so a lot of people get used to them. Something doesn't win because it is a bit better, unless it is a leap better than what was there. Momentum is an important thing. As is cost.
  23. Not if you play by the bridge and the bolts dig into your hand when you are playing.
  24. I always viewed yes lyrics as just another instrument, like a series of vocalisations. Yep. Heard a french busker singing Zombie in a subway in montreal once, it was fascinating. She obviously didn't speak english or even have any idea what the words were, but she had reduced the song to basically a series of sylabels, so she was doing the chorus as 'ee-or-ed'. Worked fine, I still sing it like that. Not a Yes album though, just a solo album. And I am not convinced there were actually goblins, although there probably should have been!
