Thought I had hallucinated this last night. Somebody buy my Sadowsky so I can relieve Mr. Wailer of this
Haha! No, you're not hallucinating. There was an issue with the other advert but all has been put right now so you can continue to lust! Fingers crossed for you that the Sadowsky sells. Cheers! -
That is a superb example Daniel, GLWTS. Hope you are still enjoying the Modulus. Regards mate, Paul
Hi Paul, Hope you're well. Yes, absolutely loving the Flea Bass, so much fun to play and sounds delicious! Certainly a keeper. Take care pal, Daniel -
Now £1500 No trades please. Up for sale is my Custom Shop, NOS, 1955 Precision. It's made in 2005 and has an ash body, quarter sawn maple neck and a maple fingerboard. It's a great player, sounds deep, crisp and full and weighs in at a shade over 9lbs without the covers and 9.40lbs with the covers. These 55's have body contours, so they are lighter, and in my opinion, more comfortable then the earlier slab styles. [s]It had flats on it but now has roundwounds. I can reinstall the flats if you prefer, the sound with flats was amazing to my ears, but then I am biased towards them. [/s]EDIT: I've put the flats back on, just sounds sooo good!!! This bass seriously fills up the room, the sound is so full, yet every note has presence and punch. These old style P Basses with the ash body and maple fingerboard combination really do make for a big big sound that's perfect for filling up space with warmth and depth, I love them and am lucky enough to have another 1955 Custom Shop Precision which I am keeping. I have no doubt that this one sounds much better than my Ltd Ed one I am keeping, and that's worth at least a grand more. I'm keeping the Ltd Ed though as it is super light at 7.5lbs, that's very rare indeed for a Fender. I'm based in Harrow, postage is also an option. Cheers! Fender 60's P Bass - what type of wood is this please?
Chiliwailer replied to dodgnofski's topic in Repairs and Technical
I just came across where you got this from, lovely bass!!! -
Yeah it's legit. Richard Henry is a decent bloke and long time vintage dealer to likes of Johnny Marr and Charlatans etc. If you check out his twitter you'll see he's a well linked up guy. He's also got it on Andy Baxters website as a commission sale. Now where did I leave that 5k.....

Fender 60's P Bass - what type of wood is this please?
Chiliwailer replied to dodgnofski's topic in Repairs and Technical
Well, definitely a period when Fender were using up old stock any way they could, some of these late 60's ones even have old orange and green amplifier cloth wire so perhaps they were using up Ash bodies as blonde was less popular, or because the Tele basses that came out then were blonde? Anything goes back then! -
Fender 60's P Bass - what type of wood is this please?

My two cents... Fender mostly only used Ash for Blonde finishes back then, which were always Ash. Is the bass refinished? The paint wear looks like it could be, if it is, then maybe it was Ash as it sure does look like it against other Fenders I've seen from that period. -
SOLD! Fender Domestic JV precision '57 ri (1982)
Never seen a JV like this with a factory gold guard and without a small Squier logo, I thought they were all like this: http://basschat.co.u...2-l1099-woooop/ By the way, not trying to imply yours is not legit as I'm no expert, but someone who is will be bound to chime in sooner or later! Meant to say £40 posted. Price includes first class signed for post. I bought this pickup a while back to put into my 1966 Precision as I wanted something hotter and more punchy, like my JV Precision. This is a great pickup, so good that it was too close to my original 1963 Fender pickup I had been using. I had to try other pickups to find that slightly different sound I was looking for, which ended up being a Bare Knuckle 58 Precision pickup. Makes sense really, as the later 50's pickups are different to the 60's, which the SPB-2 is modeled on and the JV is based on a 57 P Bass, doh!!!! So these really do sound like what they say they do, a proper vintage 60's Fender pickup with a little bit more of everything and without sounding too modern. I've been keeping hold of it in case I ever got a cheaper P Bass to put it in, but I doubt that's going to happen so it's up for grabs. It's literally had less than one hour use, comes with the box, instructions and screws.
Nice. The sunburst was very different then compared with more modern basses, I think.
Cheers, the colour does vibe. The sunburst Fender sprayed from 1966 and used up to 1968 has a more yellow effect than usual. You're certainly right about the differences too.
The only Fender I'd ever consider (prefer maple for mine though). Why? It's my YoB bass. Daft reason I know. Looking forward to piccies of this beastie.
Good reason! My YoB is 1978, not quite the same appeal for a YoB model..... Can't work out why pics aren't working, I can see them! I've posted a pic to the advert anyhow via the uploader. Cheers

I keep listing this and then withdrawing it, it's getting a bit silly really. I had a firm offer come through recently and I just couldn't go through with the deal as this is a great bass, (even though I'm more into ash bodies with maple boards - which is why I'm using my CS 55 P Bass). Anyway, reality has come back to me and I need to get some cash back. It really is for sale now, no turning back. This is a 1966 Precision that has a neck and vintage sound to die for! It's light weight at a sweet 8.38lbs and has a very vintage, soulful tone with lots of clarity. It has a Brazilian fingerboard which makes it feel more Pre CBS and just like my old 63 and 64 P Basses. Fender completed the change from Indian to Brazillian rosewood in 1966 so these are rarer. It has it's original hard case and a 1963 Fender Precision pickup, plus one changed screw in a tuner gear. The pickup was rewound by The Bass Doc, he did an incredible job and used the correct colour winding whilst also spraying the pickup with lacquer to make it period correct, it would fool most as appearing all original though has newer cloth wires and is missing the brass plate. I bought the '63 pickup especially for this bass. Fender used old stock black bottom pickups until around 1967 so this one isn't at all out of place on this bass, especially as it has the Brazilian fingerboard which is also a more common pre CBS feature. Fender Jazz Bass 1969 - pickups and pots question
Chiliwailer replied to macieq's topic in Bass Guitars
Thinking about it..... 1989 pickups were black bottomed. The grey colour and stamp appear very 60's/70's Fender so it could just be that some wires and pots were changed? I'm not an expert but I've seen many of these basses 'under the hood' so I'm just relying from memory (maybe not the best guy to give advice?!). Fender codes often went through changes and perhaps someone simply changed some wires when changing pots? Or perhaps the wires and capacitor are old stock for amplifiers they were using up, this is how the green and orange wires came about. Anything is possible from that the late 60's as CBS started to penny pinch -
Fender Jazz Bass 1969 - pickups and pots question
Chiliwailer replied to macieq's topic in Bass Guitars
Hello I bought this Fender jazz bass from 1969 but I'm not sure if the pickups and pots are original. Could anybody help me with this, please? Here are the photos.
Here's my opinion mate. First thought is the pickups could be 1989. The stamps mostly ended with the year of manufacture. The wires make me question the age. The pickups for a 1968 should mostly have burgundy colour windings around the pickup, cloth wire connectors (black & white or orange & green) and rounded pole pieces where the magnet lies under the strings, these ceased in the 70's. There seems to be some original orange wire in there joining your pots and jack so they could be original. The pots may or may not be later, but would need the codes to check that out. The capacitor looks wrong as it should be a pancake style. Hope this helps. -
I second that......very lovely! when I bought my JV jazz it was just sitting in the corner of a studio for years gathering dust .......someone had replaced the neck with a Tokai lined fretless...... if it had the original neck on I,d be drooling more than I am right now ! Cheers and all the best. Simon.
Aw, close but no cigar for both of us! You're drooling and I'm nearly crying Cheers!
