1. This eBay seller always winds me up. He charges seriously high prices for his gear, which is often btsa or very ambiguously described. He once sold me a fake bridge cover too, (thank you eBay dispute process!).
  2.
I have dectuplets (if that's even a word).
Wow! Why I haven't I seen this collection sooner. Pictures tell a thousand words. Wow x 1000 matey!
  3. Might as well do this while I can, the mint '66 Precision is up for sale (and I need to do something while the Mrs is watching X Factor) Two '66 Precision Basses, both made in May and 180 place apart in serial number. The mint one will be deeply missed.
  4.
"If you have to ask, you'll never know"
Quote of the day!
  5.
1) Has anyone had experience of buying fakes from 'reputable' shops? M*sic Gro*nd have sold more fakes than any of us have had hot dinners. But they specialise in faking old Marshall, Fender Custom Shop or anything else vintage, or 'ex rock star' for that matter. Robbing little buggers. 2) Would anyone bother to fake a cheap Tanglewood? Hell no. Though they are good for cash,. they're too cheap to bother 3) When did the III FH change from 3 to 4 pots? Tanglewood often changed factories and styles, I sold them for many a year (since 1993) and saw lots of changes Cheers.

  6.
I That purple is slightly more masculine than classic Fender Burgundy Mist , but not by much . About the whole Lane Poor v Seymour Duncan pickup thing , I've played them both side by side and there really is no discernable difference between the two I certainly can't hear any difference whatsoever , and that OB1 preamp sounds good with it , too.
Yup, classic and replicated Burgundy Mist is not even close to a nicely aged and dirty nitro finished old school Burgundy Mist. Obviously depends on how the bass has aged but they can come up lovely. Good to hear about the pickup thing, the sound clips I heard sound great and just what I'm after having fun with. Now where's that long sports sock....
  7.
I'm trying to get some more information on Music Man Sabres. I played a new Classic Sabre in a shop recently and really liked it. It had a 5 way pickup selector, and covered pickups like the Ernie Ball Sabres. How do these 3 types of Sabre (Late 70s pre Ernie Ball, 80s Ernie Ball, and the new Classic Sabre) compare in terms of sound, tonal options etc? There's not a whole lot of info out there about them. I know that the Classic Sabre and 80s ones have a 16 pole piece front pickup, which will obviously change the sound, and were introduced to counter the big magnets interfering with the string vibrations, is this a big disadvantage of the pre Ernie Ball basses? Thanks, James
Not sure if this will help but all I can tell you is that I owned a '78 Sabre and it recorded like an absolute dream. Only sold it to fund a '64 Jazz Bass and I still regret letting it go. When I played the later 80's one's I felt there was something missing. Great basses Sabre's, nothing like a Stingray, but that's not a bad thing too.
  8. Er...um... not that I'm easily persuaded, prone to peer group pressure, willing to please or anything like that but I've just put in an offer for this bass. I'm still paying too much for it, which will be a massive first for me, but then as my good friend always said 'If I really want it there and then, I'll pay for that privilege' so let's see if the seller accepts.... Not only has this topic been very amusing, it's also very cool to see what people think of the funky colour. If the opportunity to buy a late '90's one with a Lane Poor came up in the future then I'd possibly sell it on ,so it's nice to know that you guys give this one a purple flake thumbs up. EDIT: Oh, and for any cosmic occurrence fans, funny that I wrote my 'wanted' bit in my signature in purple the other day (enter twilight zone theme here) Cheers!
  9.
More like you're not a real man if you're only going to play this at home This bass was made to be shown off, so you'd better buy it and get out there, unless there's a damn good medical reason why not.
Mate, I am literally laughing out loud, because I do have a medical reason why I stopped gigging - I have severe nerve damage to my neck and back. No harm done my friend, what are the chances eh?!!!
  10.
Stick with the P's
Oooh, nice call! I'm fully sticking with my worn in '66 Precision, that's a keeper till death. But the mint condition '66 one could be sold tomorrow. Of course I'm really gutted about that, but the extra cash will really come in handy, even after getting the Modulus. I really like the guy who may be buying it, it'd be in great hands. So my reality is that some extra cash and variation in my basses has almost sealed the deal for me. Tough choice I'll admit. Cheers!
  11.
Purple? Nowt wrong with purple.

I love it - buy it

I'd gig it!

Funky! I don't generally like purple but that's cool.

Just buy it.
Hahaha! I'm loving this! I feel like a new bass day might be around the corner....
  12. They say a real man can wear pink. I am wanting a Flea Bass, have been for a while. Finally given up on getting a Lane Poor version, having heard various sound clips of the Seymour Duncan + OBP-1 preamp I'm convinced that's ok. But..... my friend has this one for sale and it is in purple metal flake!!! It's not cheap, but then again will they ever will be. I'm only go to play this at home, the little kid in me wants a Flea Bass just for the awesome tone and fun of it, purple flake is kinda fun? Please guys and gals, give it to me straight, no holding back, be nice, be mean, just don't be diplomatic! Thanks.
  13. Steve bought a pickup off me, but what I enjoyed most was the emails we exchanged chatting about...you guessed it...basses! It's clear that he's a top man and a very genuine guy who's also well experienced and knowledgeable. Thanks Steve!

    Jazz

Show and tell, why not... It's a special order 2001 Fender Custom Shop 1963 reissue, closet classic (accompanied by Precision Bass bodyguards ). I previously owned a USA Deluxe 5 Jazz and a 1964 original Jazz. I do miss the '64 but considering the quality of this Custom Shop, I'm a very happy punter who's satisfied. We're missing a Stack Knob Jazz here I think...someone please post the Jazz Bass to end all Jazz Basses..... EDIT: you know who you are....
  16. Just in case Kiogon's post puts you off, I'm going to buy some cloth wire, reattach and then relist the pickup.
  17. It'd be easier to say that if you can't do a simple little solder joint, don't do one at all. 'high risk' and 'not recommended' is a bit too strong though, I've done this many a time with no issues at all If you follow the basic principles of soldering and do it properly then the job gets done.
  18. Now reserved - For a Basschat user - If and when I go ahead with the sale, he's got first choice.
  19.
Edit to say: Chili, your bass is stunning for it's age.
Thanks Sam, it genuinely gives me a rush every time I take it out of it's case!
  20.
well Poirot, you deduce well. Pics soon.....its getting some flats this weekend as your recommendation, well, similar to your suggestion anyway, see how we go!
That's fantastic, but then you already know that more than most. I've found that there is something extra special about the majority of wood Fender used up until around 61, I've played more than enough electric guitars and basses from that period (and beyond), even felt it on student models like the Musicmaster and Duo Sonic. For me stack knobs have always been my definition of how a Jazz Bass should be defined, even my old '64, which was amazing, and other pre CBS Jazzes felt like there just that little something missing. Couldn't be happier for you mate, and for the bass too, it's sure in the right hands. Can't wait to see pics, please let me know where they are posted if you can
  21.
Errr, maybe!! As you know, I have picked up a new addition last week, and it is a bit special, I'm still sleeping with it, and carrying it everywhere with me, once the honeymoon period wears off, I'll get some pics up on here!
Uh oh, sleeping with a bass that's no doubt been around the block, been played by more men than Pac Man and is at least 50 years old. I hope you're using some protection there, use some rubber, Elixir's? I still reckon it's a stack knob
  22.
Mmmmm.....still love this....you really sure you wanna sell it??
Honestly mate, I'm really not at all sure! I love both of my '66 Precisions to bits Really this is a feeler advert, see what the folks think and see what I think too. It could be that I keep this one and let my other one go. Keeping both seems like a far fetched reality though unfortunately. Choosing between them is so hard, both so good for such different reasons. I think I may let this advert fade off down the pages for a little while.... Any new basses for you these days?
