1.
I don't know how to explain simply , so I'll put it this way ;
Yet another fantastic post, thank you. I liked the compression fretting part, I had a chat about this with a mate recently when I was stoning out a duck tail in my old Precision. With your comments, his views make a lot more sense now.
 2.
sorry does that read a little condescending ? not meant to be just trying to be helpful , i'm not much of a writer .
Not at all mate. I agree with you as it goes. I once had a session of swapping around my Music Man necks and bodies in the same way you did you Jazz Basses. I had a maple board, rosewood board, ash body and alder body. I heard some great differences there, but can't exactly do the same with my Jazz unless as you pointed out, unless they come from the same tree! I'm just being nosy really, wondering that the good folks on basschat reckon about this topic as it's not quite a simple one!
 3.
The tone benefit is that warped necks sound dreadful.
Love it, that might just be the opinion that nails it!
 4. I have a quatersawn neck on my Custom Shop Jazz Bass, yet my two 1966 Precisions (and 95% of vintage and many 'standard' basses) are flatsawn. I understand that quatersawn are less likely to warp lengthways than flatwsawn due to the grain in the wood following the neck in a parallel line, and I also understand the counter opinions that flatsawn necks are less prone to twisting across the width of the fingerboard. But what I really want to enquirer about is tone. I've heard bassists and guitarists talking about the tone benefits or differences with quatersawn. I'm far too skeptical to have a firm opinion around this, I mean without trying a huge amount of basses, how we do know that the differences between quatersawn verses flatsawn are not just the same differences we hear in any basses because of wood or pickups? Even when they are the same make and model vast differences can be heard. However I'm interested to know if anyone has achieved a firm and proven opinion?
 5.
Any suggestions on how to get another couple of months out of it?
Ok, if it's buzzing due to it then this is a very sketchy stab in the dark..... I'm a vintage bass fan, bought and sold loads over the years. I've seriously lost count of how many developed 'duck tails' at the other end of the board. That's when the fingerboard raises as the neck joins the body. The way to sort out the fret buzzes is to give it a fret stone on the high note frets, going heavier at the bottom and lighter as you get to the required point. So, depending on how bad it is you could perhaps do the reverse (on the first few frets) to get some extra time out of the bass? Oh, and wood glue for the crack! I did say it was sketchy...but if you only want a few months who knows? Edit: I wouldn't trust me though, send it to The Bass Doc if fixable?
 6.
Rant? Oh dear, try not to take me too seriously, it's my own opinion, nothing more! My favourite bassist Dr. Pino P uses them.
Yeah, rant!! Definition being:A speech or piece of writing that incites anger or violence: I'm being tongue in cheek because your post reads angry to me, (which is fair enough as these stings are not cheap). and you did use the word 'hate' in the title, hence me saying 'hate rant'! But I'm certainly not taking this seriously. In contrast to the original post I've just put a few small sentences in for the other side of the topic. Actually, sometime early this year I started a topic as it had been years since I tried TI's, I was asking people what they thought of them before I risked the £43 to buy them. It really did appear that people absolutely love them or can't stand them, very little in between. I instantly fell in love with them again but I can see why you dislike them, LaBella's are lovely strings so your opinion is of course very valid.
 7. I love TI's, probably because they are not like regular flats. I've nothing against regular flats though so I wouldn't recommend these as 'the best' flatwound strings, just great strings if you like what they do. I've had no balance issues like the op mentioned, and I have them on 3 high end basses. But having a hate rant about them, especially when so many people and pro's appreciate them, I feel is a little unfair on a high quality product.
 8. Another smooth sale to a very friendly chap
 9. Perfect! Great guy and a pleasure to sell to.
 10. I hope I'm not going to offend here, but I put a 70's Fender grill cloth on my Mini 121p. Now it matches my bass, kind of....
 11. Here are my two 1966 Precisions. Both have May neck dates and are 183 places apart in the serial numbers! They've both got original case and the worn in one has a rare for period Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, making it pretty much just like my old '64 Precision which I sold when I bought my flat Both basses are very different in tone and equally special. I definitely love the 'before and after' thing going on here! 1966 Precisions - a great way to get the old school pre CBS feel and quality at a more affordable price.

 15. Rory bought a bass from me, I shipped it to Holland for him. Throughout the process Rory was a pleasure to communicate with and the sale was super easy. I'm very happy to have dealt with Rory. Enjoy the wonderful bass!
 16.
hi Could you tell me what diameter the strap pins are, please? thanks
Or could be 12mm, hard to tell!
 17.
hi Could you tell me what diameter the strap pins are, please? thanks
Hi, I make if 11mm, which is 1mm more than the schaller ones. Thanks, Daniel.
 18. These strings were on a Music Man Sterling Bass for around 6 months. The gauge is 45,60,80,100. They would fit a 2+2 headstock or another Music Man £10 posted. Cheers!
