Does it really have a Fane speaker? I remember buying a pair of cheap 15" speakers from Wilmslow Audio (I went there on the bus, too young to drive then!) for a 2x12 2x15 (!) cab I made in the woodwork class at school. It was a pretty good cab, powered it with a Selmer T&B 50. That was a long time ago!!

You know it makes sense! At the moment, I have a pair of Precisions with flats and a pair of Jazzes with rounds, and am hoping I can be satisfied with just those four. Time will tell!

Cheers, Lozz, I reckon I've played about 50 gigs with the Roostmaster and not one of them has left me wishing I still had the ABM. May happen yet, of course, in which case..... I'm still playing in a couple of blues/rock bands where the Precision really rules the roost, but recently joined a Grateful Dead tribute act and they want less bottom and a more upper middle sound, mainly to cut though two guitars, keys, and TWO drummers. I took the old classic 60s Jazz just to try it on Sunday and ended up playing it with them all day, which is why I bought a second Jazz yesterday!

I had an ABM 600 last year, then tried a Rootmaster 800 and the ABM was sold in days! Nothing wrong with it, but too heavy for me with a damaged right hand, when I can carry two RMs in bags over one shoulder! Bloody loud amps, too, I use mine through either a Barefaced 212 or 112 depending on the gig. Someone is in for a real treat with that T bird. My local guitar tech reckons it's the best T bird he's seen, especially with the Babicz bridge & Gotoh tuners. It was definitely better than my Gibson T bird. It just doesn't really my playing style anymore. I feel bad keeping gear I no longer use, though, so it will have to go. Besides, I've already spent the money on the new Jazz!

I really hope this one is a keeper. My last Jazz was a lovely black/maple one I bought new, swapped for a Precision about six months later, then bought is back a couple of months after that, then swapped it for yet another Precision just before Christmas. Mind you, I bought that Jazz while still on crutches after a fairly nasty motorcycle accident, so it had some negative associations for me. I'll reserve judgement on the pickups until I've had a chance to try it a proper volume with a band. I've got two gigs this weekend, but both are with blues bands, and the Precision sounds better with both. I do like your user name - typical of me, that having decided to cut down from 9 basses to 4, one of the first things I do is buy another one! I have managed to sell two so far this year....

As the title so clearly states, I bought a new bass yesterday and new scratch plate for it today. Standard MiM Jazz yesterday, and today's post brought me new scratch plate from MD music. I was removing the old one before the post's footsteps had died away! Hope to hanging on to this one for a while - I have a history of buying Jazz basses then selling them in within a few months. Hopefully, this will be as good a workhorse as my classic 60s Jazz, also MiM, which I bought five years ago and still have. Obligatory pics (bass & plate not really as red as the sun made them look.)

Cheers, that Jazz just kind of fell into my hands. I walked into my nearest music shop and it literally had my name on it! They knew I was after one, played it and bought it straight away. One of the new Mexican standards with pau ferro fingerboard, like rosewood but lighter colour & not on the CITES ban list! US are better, but not 2-3 times better, which is what they cost now. Clearing out all my basses except a pair of Precisions and a pair of Jazzes.

Lozz, we need to get our Jazz bass lust cycles synchronised better! It will save both a pile of money if we can arrange it so one of us is selling and the other buying at any one time! The 2017 MiM standard Jazz I bought today is as good as the US ones were a few years ago, and at under half the price the US are in the shops now, it wasn't a hard decision.

Probably depends on who has the biggest ego. (I can see that descending into a 'my ego's bigger than yours' slanging match!)

Classic 50s and Roadworns aren't cheap when new. I sold a roadworn Precision recently, and have a Classic 50s P on sale here at the moment. Having said that, I was in need of a new Jazz bass today, and bought a Mexican standard, 630 quid and a lot of bass for the money. I have several US Standard Precisions, (and have had Jazzes all well) and the current MiM range are good basses for the money.

I've started playing this again as it has just the sound I need for the Grateful Dead tribute I'm playing in. It's also quite a bit cheaper than an Alembic! So it's no longer on the market. Another bass falls victim to my spring clear-out! This is my rather special Epiphone Thunderbird pro classic iv, the through-neck version with Gibson pick ups. This bass, in addition to being in perfect condition, has the added attractions of a Babizc full contact bridge, a significant and expensive improvement over the original, and a new set of Gotoh tuners. The bridge was on the bass when I bought it, but the tuners and current set of D'Addario nickel rounds were fitted and the bass set up by a local pro luthier, who was so impressed with the quality of this bass that he ordered one for himself. Alas, this one seems to have been a 'lucky bass' as it is well above the quality of most other Epiphones, good as they are. I bought this last year, and had bought a Gibson T bird just a few weeks before, and to be honest, this was the better bass. It is complete with an Epiphone hard case, and is an impressive instrument that can stand comparison with the very best around. I shall be sorry to let it go, but I need to cut down to just those basses I use in bands, so the two Precisions and two Jazz basses it will be. Available to try through a decent amp and cab in my house between Abingdon and Witney in West Oxfordshire. I prefer not to risk damaging a bass this good by placing it at the mercy of the couriers. As I have the basses I need, and am cutting down for reasons of space, I am not able to consider trades for this bass.

Bass sold (well, part exchanged for an Alembic!). Continuing my cull of basses I have bought which I have not been using enough to justify the space they take in my house. This is a fine 2012 Fender US Standard Precision bass in sunburst with a maple fretboard. Sounds, looks, and feels exactly as a Precision bass should. Comes with a Fender hard case. There is a small chip in the paint, on the edge above the pickup, which has been touched up since the picture was taken, but the slight depression caused by the loss of paint has not been filled in. To be fair, you'd have to be shown where it is, as it is not obvious to the naked eye. I bought the bass from a basschatter last Autumn, and it has seen very little use since I got it home. Soon after buying it, I was offered a similar bass but with a rosewood fingerboard, and I generally prefer rosewood to maple, so I am keeping my two US Precisions with rosewood boards and selling those with maple (one has already been sold). I am reluctant to post/courier this, and would prefer the buyer to collect from my house between Abingdon and Witney in West Oxfordshire so that they can try it out through a decent amp and cab.

After a rather inspiring rehearsal with a band I recently joined, it seems I need a decent Jazz bass, so I'm interested in trades for this Precision. Ideally want a US Standard, 2012 or later, rosewood fingerboard, preferably sunburst. Not bloody fussy, am I! Cash adjustment as appropriate. Back to sales only, as I have just bought a Jazz bass, so the need is filled!

The current one is the new band's logo, but I don't think it works at this size, so I'll probably change it back to a stealie unless I find some fresh inspiration. -
