1. Cache?
  2. Thanks - think it's fixed now. It may have been an issue with admin accounts only. Well - looks like we're nearly out of the woods!!
  3. Yeah; I can't see it and neither can a few others I've asked. Anyone else care to chip in?
  4. Looks like lots of users can't see the 'add new item' to the classifieds section.. we're looking into it now. Can you lot see it?
  5.
the forum wasn't broken, so somebody didn't need to try fixing it.
?!
  6. Guys, don't panic. We're working on the site. There will be problems for the next few days probably but we're on it. Thanks.
  7. Yup we'll be seeing a few bits and bobs go weird as the changes are made to the live site. Don't worry, it'll all be back to normal as soon as we're done. Thanks ped
interestingly it looks like there are generally 4 times as many guests on here than there are members! What can guests actually see on here?
Pretty much everything except Off Topic I think. They can view the classifieds and all bass related threads on BC. I have encountered 'private' forums where visitors can't read anything until they sign up, but that to me seems a bad idea as it'll turn people away. It's all about quick access. ped
Incidentally, through the software updates we've just lost the guests/members/anonymous users count at the bottom of the home page.
That only appears on the main homepage, it's still there (at least at the moment)
  11. Yes, normal service will be resumed as soon as it's fixed... we're installing some new stuff and it's being worked upon right now. Shouldn't be long, hopefully. Cheers
  12.
Tokyo bass bash footage?
My collection!

Just updating with a couple of better pics of my bass Vigier Passion GK by chiscocks, on Flickr Vigier Passion GK by chiscocks, on Flickr
  14. Thanks for that, very interesting. Do you play with a pick? I've never experienced the coating coming off (but have seen evidence of that on other basses) because I play like a wimp. Do you remember the first version of the strings, I think they called them polyweb, where the coating came off more easily? I literally don't sweat on stage for some reason so I can make a pack last aaaages, I can't remember when I last changed them! I should be bred with a bassist who can actually play to create the 'ULTIMATE LIVE BASSIST' Cheers ped P.s do they have a silk wrap or are they 'naked'

    Thank You KiOgon

I would highly recommend it! I found the install of the GK electronics quite straighforward actually, but the buttons stumped me because I no longer have any decent drills. Most people see it and think 'wow that looks complicated' or 'it must be hard to find the right sound' - 90% of the time I'm bypassing the whole lot, but it's there to use if I like. Why not? 6 knobs, one switch and two buttons. I wonder how some people manage a keyboard!
  16. I've never noticed much difference with string-thru bodies to be honest. What do you have arriving in the post? Yes it's way cheaper and really satisfying to get spot on! I find an essential ingredient in 'clank' is very little neck relief. I don't have a truss rod but mine is built with basically zero which means I can clack away if I like. I've had basses by the same company which were built later which had more relief, set up for the tastes of a wider audience I guess, and found them lacking the same feel and responsiveness.
  17.
I like that! Nice and full, I guess the skinny strings = thin tone thing is a total myth! Nice playing too, that's one filthy bassline
lol thanks. Yes, I think so - let the amp do the work and leave yourself plenty of options with your right hand. I must admit, when getting really 'into it' in the metal band the strings could sometimes feel a bit flimsy, but this helped me hone my right hand sensitivity even more, I think. I wouldn't change back, now.
  18. Ah bloody dropbox! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/85432/USB%203/Canti's%20Wrap.mp3
  19.
I live for the clank! And I like the strings to have some resistance because of my aggressive attack... But I've been tempted to try lighter gauges so that I don't have to play super hard all the time, and to make fast twiddly bits less of a chore!
Give it a try. I play all sorts now (mainly fusion instrumental soul funk.. lol) but used the same setup playing with 'Part III: The Onslaught' (guess what style we played) and I always cut through the mix with massive clarity but the notes had a lot of weight and depth too. This MP3 gives you some idea of my clean sound. What's your setup?

Another pic to show the side. I did this with a chisel and hammer I bought from Homebase. I was scared but it paid off. Luckily, being French, the bass surrendered to my attack and let me get on with it! Vigier Passion GK side by chiscocks, on Flickr
  21. Yeah maybe. I'll ask them if they have any plans for them. They seem harder to find these days. I hope they don't stop doing the super lights in Nickel, or I'm screwed!
  22.
I have been waiting for Elixir to bring out stainless strings for ages! Just ordered 5 sets. I find the nickel plated strings to be quite bright compared to other brands anyway. Not quite bright enough for me, so it has been a bit of a trade off due to the primary benefits of long life and silky feel. I do like my string tone to be bright (like DR, D'Addario). I am sure these new stainless strings are going to be very lively...just the way I like normally em!
Nice, check back and tell us how they compare. I find the nickels bright enough for me, but it's always interesting to experiment! Can they be bought with a .40-.95 gauge? {edit, now I'm at my computer} Ah, no you can't. Well, that rules them out for me.
  23.
Sounds wicked! I don't have that sort of self control
Lol well I haven't changed my action for 6 years so I'm really happy with it. I remember when I first played this bass and it was really satisfying because it was the sound I had in my head. I've tried other strings but I guess I'm too weak to slap them properly! It's got to the point where I get flustered when someone hands me a bass with thick strings and a high action, it feels like my hands are numb. When I was at TC Electronic I played one of their lakland jazz basses and I'm afraid I sounded horrible!
  24.
where is the "ask a question button/feature going to go?" - maybe if it opened on the chat/question page first before the details? keep the focus on the community and comunication rather than the commerce
It's already there - check the bit under the photos on the listing I posted. As I say, this is the basic plugin and we can adapt it as we go, but first let's see how it goes. I think it's going to work really nicely. I do agree with comments like Rick's post above - remember I use this place as a bassist too (I just happen to co own it) so your concerns are the same as mine. However I think people will still get by with the Q+A bit or by PMing the seller and forging a bond that way, It might mean some people start a thread on the forum talking about a type of bass they've spotted in the marketplace. What it will definitely mean, however, is that the people who run BC will have far more time to help in other areas and effectively stop them having to step in when comments are seen as derogatory or unhelpful, which they sometimes can be. I'm sure it'll work very well and I think the drawbacks are far outweighed by the ease of use and the enhanced sellability it'll provide. Being able to see the latest 60 things listed at a glance is pretty cool. ped
