In case you didn't see it in the Mustang Brotherhood thread
-
I bought this neck to try on a Musicmaster bass, ahead of having the original defretted. The seller removed it from a mexican Pawn Shop Mustang. The neck has a faint 2012 stamp. He said that the modification involved removing the rosewood board, changing the truss rod for an aluminium one and attaching the rather nice ebony to the neck. The ebony fingerboard goes up to the nut, which is original, including the remaining rosewood beyond it to the bottom of the headstock. The pictures show as much detail as I can, and highlight the detail of the glueing and where the surfaces meet. It's much nicer in the flesh than the pictures make it look but I wanted to show as much detail as possible. The tuners are as standard - there's a little chip near the A tuner which tbh I've just noticed. As far as I could tell, the truss rod worked well - I had it dead straight on the Musicmaster so I didn't need to adjust it much, however I can't say for sure. Any questions or pics required, let me know. Hopefully it'll be useful for someone. Price includes delivery of you're welcome to pick it up in/near York. Cheers ped

I just looked up the music shop where this came from (sticker on back of headstock) It opened in ‘72 so this bass must have been some of their first stock https://www.soundpad.co.uk/about-us

I don't necessarily think of them as short scale, but just basses that I really like that happen to be short! I'm sure I'll own other 34" basses in the future but I love the sound (and feel!) of these two.

Didn't he need the full 34"

Thanks! I’ll take a better picture; I was in a rush this morning and shot that with the lens wide open

If they’re extra-long enough maybe you’ll get two lengths from each string 😂 Good tip though, I’m using them on my short scales so using XL won’t make any difference at the headstock. I like the new packaging, too!

Cool project ( I’ve just finished a J/J Musicmaster). Re the strings, can’t you bend tapewounds around the post enough, or cut them? I can’t say I’ve ever really used them. I assume the control layout is VVT?

Thanks for remembering Nellie ❤️

Actually in between Nellie and Lois was a lovely blue girl called Peggy. Sadly she had cancer so only made it to the age of 7

Alright guys - I've just picked up the bass from Steve at Chapel guitars. The neck has been finished with Osmo Polyx which looks and feels great, so we'll see how it holds up. The loom is installed and working nicely with the now straightened pickups. I was sent two bezels by Gig.ink so I actually found stacking them game a lovely 'ramp' feel around the neck pickup, so that's what they're doing at the moment. I've only used tape so I'll see how I get on over the coming weeks. I've set up the bridge to my liking - despite being 'better' than the stock one I can't get the intonation quite spot on, but it'll do. Certainly, height adjustment is easier. Just a few snaps for now - I'll get some better ones to show off the neck. It's nice to be using the original neck with the fishtail tuners, which work fine and seem OK with the full scale strings which have been bedded in around the posts and bridge. Really pleased with it!! Bonus picture of my parent's new puppy, Lois. She's the gentlest little dog I've ever met. So quiet and just absolutely delightful (the previous two were absolute shits at this age!)

It also has the effect of making less original or post CBS basses appear to be good value, despite them being incredibly expensive

60s or 70s spacing?

How do you change a thumbnail on a for sale ad?
ped replied to binky_bass's topic in General Discussion
I've just added it for ye. Basically if you don't want the first image you need to download the image you want to use then manually upload it as the thumbnail, which I'm not sure a regular user can do themselves. -
I’ve got an OC2 with the square wave mod which is great fun. Sounds brilliant in the loop of my env filter. I’ll record a clip…

Down with kids basses, anyway 😆 -
Also not a Dingwall fan, but I like the innovations here. The flip thing for hanging is pretty neat, and when you consider how guitars are displayed in the majority of shops, it's probably going to help them stand out.

Just goes to show that a decent B is about far more than scale length -
I don’t think an amp changes my sound as much as a venue does. So I take a small powerful combo for monitoring and that’s that. My amp is basically flat and the rest is up to the sound guy. I have one sound for everything, it’s just my bass but louder. For heavy stuff I dig in and use some bridge pickup, lighter relaxed soul pop I palm mute and pluck with mostly neck pickup. That’s it really.
