Without scouring through the whole thread, is anyone taking a Barefaced Midget with them to this? Cheers Si
I believe PaulS is taking his... hope that helps - hope to see you there Cheers M

Seriously loving this album again too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5c5nShH2W80
I'm not a huge fan of Scott Henderson's playing but I can't get enough of GW's playing at the moment. His No Sweat album has hardly been of the player for a while.

I've just bought the box set of Weather Report's first 6 albums. There is some great music on there-especially on Sweetnighter and Mysterious Traveller. Good call on Gary Willis' 'No Sweat'....one of the best 'bass player' albums around.
No Sweat is superb - funnily enough I really didn't like it when I first got it years ago - now it's now probably in my top three bass albums of all time evah... the last two tracks are gorgeous but it's the mad 16th note stuff on 'Until The Cows Come Home' that I've gone back to time and time again - I'm trying to get a little of this stuff down but it's hard to get it to GW's level of perfection! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvTgHcQla2A Like I say the new TT album won't be everyone's bag but if you're a Willis fan then it's got some amazing playing on, some of his best for a while me thinks
MIke, you're welcome to use my rig again if you'd like mate. I like hearing you play through it a lot, so it really wont be an issue for me
Nice one Si - thanks - your tips on compression are still invaluable to me as I don't use it that much but want to know more about it.... anyway that's great and much appreciated - even if I don't run through the PA going through your amp will more than suffice Cheers Mike
It's not a good mix, but I love it! Nice arrangement, and the singer is quality, I love his voice and phrasing, really emotive and personal, some of his vocal gives me shivers. Work on the mixes and this could really be something special.
Agree totally - love the song/vibe/voice - definitely my bag in terms of melodic rock/pop - do you guys like Jason Faulkner by any chance? If you've not checked him out he's a master musician/songwriter - my one major dislike here is the guitar sound, it's just too 'hot' - I can hear the kind of vintage rock sound you were aiming for but it's just a little harsh... get someone else to mix it is my advice - it's always good to have an objective pair of ears working on something you are probably a little too close to be objective about - I know that has helped bring out the best in stuff I've recorded but the had mixed by someone else. Aside from that this is a killer track and you have great collective empathy - keep it up and keep writing stuff like this... it's very good. Hope that's all cool Mike PS just in case you haven't checked this guy out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPnQ81Pa7JQ
Hi Mike This sounds great - what kind of amp do you need? Nik
Any old amp will do Nick - but the better the quality the better the sound Ideally I'd like to take a line out of the amp and then run the laptop through the PA - is that possible? Or I can just DI into the PA but a bass amp will give a better balance of thd the sound - let me know - PM if it's easier M

Not sure if this album has been mentioned here yet - but - the new Tribal Tech album 'X' is a cracker - bit cheesy fusion in places but Gary Willis is on fearsome form throughout - and the tunes are pretty darn good too - not going to be everyone's bag I know but if you like their other stuff you'll love this: http://www.reverbnat...rsontribaltechx Cheers Mike
Other issues: Jam Room: we do need a drummer for this; Jack - is Paul available?? Raffle: I suggest we start a different thread, so will do that later or tomorrow as I have a gig today.. Charities to donate to: As the Paralympics has been so amazing IMO, would anyone like to donate some of what is raised to a related Paralympic cause? Other suggestions of worthy causes most welcome though. Workshops suggested /offered so far: 1. Dubstep masterclass - Jake Newman 2. Vocal Workshop - Mcgraham 3. Bass Synth workshop - Mcgraham 4. Recording/Studio related stuff - 51m0n 5. An FX workshop = any takers? 6. A/B ing basses and amps workshop - any suggestions?? Ok, that's it for now, look forward to your thoughts & suggestions! Nik
All workshops sound great - I'd quite like to bring my laptop/Ableton set up but it does involve quite a bit of gubbins (leads/boxes etc) and I won't be able to bring an amp - but if I could borrow an amp would I be able to use the house PA in the theatre bit? I'm not sure exactly how instructive I can be but Ableton is such a great tool for composing, jamming and performing I'd be quite up for plugging in and showing what it can do - not sure how much people already know or if they're interested but I've only taken this stuff out a couple of times so far so it'd be fun to get all set up - others could plug in too... let me know what you think Otherwise I'll just loiter about Cheers Mike
Mike, can you get up to Croydon? If so I'll give you a lift.
PM is coming your way dude...
-
Sorry I should clarify - I need a lift rather than being able to offer one - hope that's cool M
-
London types - I guess that means Macdaddy - I'm very much up for lift sharing / splitting petrol costs etc - let me know via PM if that's possible - if not no worries - I'm south London based but can meet somewhere if that helps

Here's the thing: beans on toast cooked by me = average run of the mill, tasty snack Beans in toast cooked by Heston Blumenthal = hugely expensive designer food... With Fodera you are paying for the chef's name even if the ingredients are the same as used in any other 'dish' - though what a great chef can do with simple ingredients, or arguably the best ingredients, is, in theory, something really special. At the end of the day I've played lots of Foderas over the years - some were amazing some were ok - I wouldn't pay 7K for any of them - end of.

Great - lovely the restrained vibe - letting the tune speak - and great, solid chord work... keep it up

Class D. Going back to the traditional ways now...
From reading reviews in Talkbass a lot of players didn't get along with the STL 6. The STL 9 seemed to be the star in that range.
I love my 9 - I'm very tempted to investigate TC gear as well now as I just got a RS112 and love it - but the 9 is just a great, great amp - simple to use and sounds wicked - with some serious grunt to boot... -
Hey Peeps, Well there are some amazing new vids appearing here since I hung up my modding boots, which is great... keep up you talented people. I'm not getting much time to record at the moment but I really wanted to try a bunch of effects in Guitar Rig 4 (which I may use live too) so here's the little tune I came up with - hope you enjoy: Cheers Mike

Andy - this sh*t is ridiculous - I mean if you weren't doing it so damn well I'd probably actually dislike it - but I don't I totally dig it because you absolutely nail everything you want to nail - musically it's not my bag but I 100% admire you and your dedication and skill - my only advice is just go as hard as you can at this and see where the hell you end up - it could be both interesting and profitable Keep it the hell up my man Mike

Hey you lovely, noisy lot... I'm no longer going to be Modding this forum - thankfully I'm busy with work and family life and it's all going very well, but jeepers, it's taking up soooo much time and any spare minutes I get I need to practice the damn bass, rehearse, play gigs and write tunes... you know the drill. I may return at some point but for now I'm back on BC civvy street - so be nice OK Anyway - I'm so pleased to see this forum thriving with pro and not-sp-pro recordings, performances, noodles etc etc than when I first started modding it several centuries ago - I hope the new broom will keep things running smoothly - and while I'm not posting on the forum as much as I used to I do lurk and see who's showing off and upsetting the children etc... and last but by no means least I have a new album project (on a label) coming out sometime soon and a new live band that I'm working on - we're playing the London Jazz Fest in November so I'll bore you all with details on that soon... Until then - keep bassing out there Much love and respect Mike

One of my fave 'alternative groove' bands of recent years was Garaj Mahal - sadly now split up - their album Blueberry Cave is a cracker - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vr15hg_Im7c http://www.amazon.com/Blueberry-Cave-Garaj-Mahal/dp/B000BI0WP4

You know what - I will try and be there for this - I just fancy hanging out with some bass nerds... like me - I don't want to do any workshops but if anyone wants to talk technique, music or jounralism for that matter then I'd be very happy to - jazzy jamming is also good! Hope that sounds cool Mike
I'm based up near York/Leeds. Fortunately, I'll be getting the gear direct through the rep at work and can swap/return if I'm not happy, so I shouldn't need to travel to test them. Just wanted to get a rough idea before I take the plunge. Looks like the Shuttle 6.2-210T combo is the winner at the moment!
I've used Trace, Nemesis, SWR, EBS and Epifani and the GB Shuttle 9 is by far my favourite amp to date - the power is great but it's just the simplicity and flexibility of the amp that I love - and it's so light I can put it in my bass gig bag, that's 900watts in a pocket on my gig bag... love, love, love that amp - it can do anything you want. Get over to Bass Direct and try one. M

Nice vid Nige - and yes the dancers were excellent - the Indian vibes (which I totally dig) reminded me of this great Indo-fusion project I did a couple of years ago with a brilliant composer/solo artist called Niraj Chag - we did three gigs only - this one is at the wonderful LSO ST Lukes in London - the other was at the equally lush CBSO Hall in Birmingham - some of the best musos I've ever worked with - the first clip here features an 8-piece choir and full band: Sadly the bass is low in the mix as I didn't really go through the PA - the venue is meant for classical music so most of my sound on the night was coming from my Epifani rig on stage... oh well - I hope you enjoy - sounds good on headphones M
