Not my gig but was out seeing The Illegal Eagles tonight. They are one very professional outfit. Very impressive musicianship.

    Dave

I was 500 yards away watching The Mighty Jerusalem Harpoons. Fantastic band and all brilliant musicians too ( one of the guitarist vocalists is Big Vern from Big Vern and the Shootas ).

Australian Pink Floyd this coming Monday at the Cliff's Pavilion.  Really looking forward to it - saw them once before and they were amazing.  Best gig of the year that year.

I’m going to see them this time next month in Glasgow, quite looking forward to it.

  3. My second post lockdown gig last night and we had to ship in a stand in drummer. Drummer who played the whole of the 90’s with me and after two rehearsals, was a dream to play with. He didn’t have a drum kit, so we asked a friend if we could borrow one of his spare (this is a true story), so he had one delivered for us, white Sonor kit, along with a selection of brand new cymbals. We then get a photo of the last owner of the kit, while it was on tour with Iron Maiden. 😳 Have to say, it was the best sounding drum kit that has ever graced the Horse & Jockey in Lanark. 😳

Couldn’t get a decent sound in the first set and couldn’t hear a thing on stage, but got better as the night went on. Was a good night though and looking forward to next years gigs now.

Thank you, will try and pop over and speak to them. Got a gig this Friday and doubt the guys will be wanting any more gigs before Christmas? Thanks for the info’ though. 👍

Good gig in Village Inn,East Kilbride. The owner Paul is very much behind live music and it's a good venue to play. Pretty packed it suffers from the usual whizzed up punters so called dancing in front of the band. Had stand on the feet of the mike stand to save it getting knocked over a couple of times. One of our guitar players usually plays a Gibson Les Paul. He did the gig with some old £40 thing last night just in case.....For some reason some punters wanted drum sticks off the drummer at the end of the night. I think I might take a handful of old strings with me next time out....

When’s the next time your playing there, would love to come over and see someone play there. Few friends play there and we’ll be looking for more venues for gigs in the new year, so would be curious about the setup. 👍

Jeez, that sounds as bad as Central London, (and in London the vehicle has to be ULEZ compliant also)

Maybe it would be easier to hire a van + driver ?

They can drop off the gear, and then disappear until you're ready to reload at the end of the evening.

You know I’m here @dmccombe7, with a long wheel base van. Happy to help, when I can, but sorry I couldn’t make the gig this time.

I had no idea Ted's wife had passed. When was that ? I met him in Aldi's just after he bought himself a Range Rover. Obviously we were talking cars at the time.

That's 3 Friday nights i would like to get to. Time permitting i might come down.

    Whats your band called Lee.

    Dave

Eileen passed in May this year, tragic.

As we were all in other bands, this became our second band, so it was decided that after the WhatsApp group of “Band 2”, we just changed to Banned 2.

Would be good to see you and your good lady, any Friday.

On another note i see Nightfly are playing Horse & Jockey soon. That could be a great night but a bit of a squeeze.

    Dave

Nightfly this Friday, with their new drummer, then wee Ted next Friday ( his first gig since his wife passed, so it might get emotional without her there watching? ) and then me on the third of September ( first outing with a new drummer and lead guitarist ), so I better get rehearsing. 🤣

  9. Twice in 2019 I had to loan a bass to someone for their gig. One was a charity gig, young band going on early and had never played through a PA, you couldn’t hear the bass over the buzz it was making, so loaned him mine.

Second time was a band setting up in my local, guy sound checked, but couldn’t get a peep out of the bass when they were due to start. I’d had a couple of pints, but only lived two minutes away, so said if someone gave me a lift home, he could have something to get him through the gig. Good deed done and guy was eternally grateful, ( and I drank free all night ).

  10. Like others have said, vocals only and  a wee pair of ton’s would be fine. Cheap powered cabs with a wee desk ( something with a couple of effects, or a Helicon for just the lead vocals ) would be fine. Ridiculously cheap, to see if things work out are;

As soon as you start adding other stuff through the PA, you will eventually progress to 12’s. Then eventually for bigger venues, you’ll add subs.
