I’ve got 20 songs for a panto I’m doing at the start of March, everything from Justin Timberlake to There’s no business like show business and 20 songs for a new band I’m rehersing with ( hopefully a gig or two after the panto ). Actually, go your own way is on both lists, so not that bad.

Someone got me a book on Guitar Family Trees but its more about guitars.
Got some new stagegear for our Glam Rock covers band from the guy who made The Glitter Band outfits. Our drummer was in the band during the 90's and managed to get us a great deal, enough so that i ended up with one full matching purple jacket and trousers and one blue jacket. I'll see about getting the trousers to match after the festive period has settled down. Lots of satin and sequins
Dave
Can’t wait to see you in action. Is there a first gig lined up yet?

Plan is, try and remain cost neutral. If I want something, then I need to sell something to raise the funds.
Thats 2019, still got a week of 2018 to shop in first and I’m going out in style. 😂

Didn't realise there were so many Wishy folks on here.
A visit to see nightfly at Girdwoods?

Actually, maybe the scale wouldn’t be as much of a problem as string spacing for you?

I fancied one of the Jackson Concert basses, seemed to be good quality when I tried it in the shop.
Where are you based?

I stopped watching, or actually spending as much time, on you tube after clicking on what I thought was a comedic video about flat earth. Turned out this guy was real, believes we are being tricked by nasa and when someone intelligent commented, giving scientific evidence as to why he was wrong, poor chap commenting got absolutely roasted by half a dozen or so idiots who also believed we are living on a disc. He remained composed and tried to logically explain his point, but never argue with an idiot. They’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I actually think we might have peaked as a species?

Wish I had the money Dave. 😩

You’ve still not told us where and when you’re next gig is? Might save you having to go wireless for the night. Jacko can play a few songs and you and I can discuss the sound. 😂

Thanks again & any advice on how to EQ a PA FOH for my bass would be appreciated too. Can I go with a DI box that would let me EQ a signal to the PA but send flat to my amp? Although can’t help feel our PA should be able to EQ this in.
Problem is, soundchecking before a gig and mixing live sound are two different things. Does he go out front while you guys are playing? Is there anyone else who could remark or advise on your sound during the gig? The guitarist might be way off, or maybe he’s correct, you only have his word for what he perceives. Maybe a rough recording of the live sound might be enough to help make a conclusion?

+1 This.
Sounds like he's trying to recreate what he thinks a bass should sound like rather than what the bass player wants to sound like. Used to be pretty common when your sound guy was into YES back in the day.
Lot of guitarists have that problem when they mix a bass tone on their own. Its all smiley faced to extreme. Ramp up the bottom and top ends and forget the mids.
Does he understand what frequencies affect bass tone. He should be listening to the sound you have on stage and simply recreating that sound FOH
Did mean to say, if you’re gigging and it’s local (ish), if you need someone to help with sound and I’m free, then I’ll help. 👍

Bought the Fender 500 Rumble from Craig. Perfect purchase in every way. Much appreciated, credit to the community. 👍

Is there a “where’s your next gig?” thread?

Its between Manchester and Birmingham so will only take about 3.5 hrs drive non stop each way. 4 if you want to be on safe side. Not that far really.
I'd do the drive and collect thing.
Dave
I would feel happier seeing it before I part with any cash. It’s just time now, got too much on over the next few weeks.

My nearest worthwhile bass stockist is Guitar Guitar in Glasgow which is 40 miles from me. Friendly enough and a reasonably decent selection of basses although i feel they have more Fender or Sandberg at the moment but that's fine for me as i like both.
They are happy to let me try anything out when i visit and have only had pleasant experiences in their new downstairs bass dept.
Dave
Once Magnum Sound in Wishaw shut down, that’s all we were left with. I work in Edinburgh, but seem to prefer going into Glasgow ( was in there on Saturday to try out an something ). Merchant City across the road from Guitar Guitar have a decent selection too.
It was unfortunate for Magnum Sound, people went in to get advice and help with all sort ( PA’s, instruments, amps etc. ) but bought online, to save money, once they knew exactly what they wanted. Some people complained about the owner closing the store, but when he pointed out the main issue was some people hadn’t spent anything in there for years, how can they complain?

At that price it would be worth a return train trip or a drive down as you won't see one of them up here in Scotland at that low price.
Dave
I am thinking that, although a road trip is always fun.

Getting tempted.... You ever in Scotland? 🤔

Harley dealerships do it quite regularly. Edinburgh Harley have just moved to a new shop near Hermiston gate and their official open day is mid Aug i think altho i was sure it was a Sat.
West Coast Harley in Glasgow have open days over a weekend so bands on both days weather permitting.

Turns out it’s the 9th of September at the new showroom. Think I’ll take a trip in and see how it goes.

A friend has messaged me saying he’s got a gig in a motorcycle showroom on a Sunday afternoon next month, not sure which one yet, but thought it was one odd place for a rock gig.
What are you learning / working on right now?

Panto is in Douglas, for a village charity, but no gigs with the band lined up yet. Ted’s bass player wants to play guitar and sing, I had a drummer I’d been rehearsing with, for another band and we got another guitarist ( was going to be Ted, but he’d too much going on just now ). Will let you know when we get a gig lined up.
