  1. Saw GUN do an acoustic set at St Luke’s in Glasgow. It’s a beautiful venue and a great version of their songs, some of which they’d never done live before.

I’m thinking we could do an acoustic set from our set list?

  2. Sunday evening gig in a local, with a new guitarist and new drummer. Slimmed down setlist, of which we’d only run through half together on Wednesday afternoon. Vocalist/guitarist and I have gigged together for the last eight years, so fit well together. Drummer and I gigged together for 12 years in the late 80’/90’s, he dep’d with us for one gig in 2022, so I trust him and he’s brilliant. New lead guitarist has some brilliant vocals, especially with the couple of Cult songs he’s brought, gigs with another Band and does his one man show too, so he’s fitted in well. New line up gives us four ( well three and me ) lead vocals and an awful lot of gigging experience.

Cant help but think this might be the start of a good thing.

  3. I could be replaced pretty easily. In fact, both cover bands I play in have replacements for me and I’ve lined them up, should I not be able to do a gig. Latest cover band I’m in, we’ve only done one gig this year, I got my replacement to do a full set rehearsal, so I could work on sound and effects before our one and only gig. I’m not precious.

    Go In-ears

Reduce stage volume, and actually properly hear yourself. Not get tinnitus.

Tried that, went into desk and no onstage sound from me. Drummer complained that he kept loosing track as although I’m shocking at playing bass, it did actually help him find his way through the songs. So now, even if I’m using IEM’s, I still have the headrush on stage and let the drummer control the volume.

I've found in smaller venues i struggle to hear the bass because i'm so close to the cabs.

Was wondering if anyone has tried the Headrush FRFR112 for bass more as a monitor angled towards myself either on the floor or possibly on top of my existing cabs.

I could quite easily fit it in front of my effects pedals.

    Any thoughts ?

    Dave

Yes, started using one last year, with a small amp & cab’ simulator pedal. Could loan you one to try, if you want?

I got an acceptable fretless substitute sound using reverb and chorus, with octaver able to switch in and out. When I get home I'll look up the settings for you, it's one I put together from scratch.

Did you ever note the settings down? I need to do Bad Love (Clapton) and the opening is clearly fretless. Hoping to just create a patch for it.

  7. Dear Mr Dodgnofski,

I find myself in the position of wanting this more than I want to buy my grandchildren Christmas presets. I’ll be using the messages we’ve exchanged over the last few days to show my wife that you used high pressure sales tactics ( such as being polite, courteous and quick to respond ) and all but forced me to buy it.

Anyway, PM’d and thank you for the additional pictures and info’ over the last few days.

    Lee.

64 next year. Yes it's just a number but that means I have been in bands since I was 14. 50 years is a long time to do anything! Maybe I should be a lot better than I am! Gave notice to my current band about 3 months ago and doing the last gig with them this coming weekend. Great bunch of guys and have had a really positive 2 and a half years with them. But recently noticed that I was really bored playing gigs. I learned the set when I joined and over the last couple of years on a positive note the band has become super tight. The downside is there has been zero new songs added to the set. The singer and keys guy feel that there is no need to change the set. There was some sort of attempt to bring new ideas to the table at the start of the year but only if the keys guy approved them or indeed could actually play them...Fair enough! But as it seems no one in the band apart from me are doing anything towards getting gigs, only me and the drummer engage with facebook to promote gigs and a few other things which I won't moan about I thing it's a pretty bum deal not getting to suggest or work on songs to keep things fresh. We are out 3 to 4 times a month on average so it would have been nice to have some new stuff for the punters. I tried and got us some new venues, about 5 in total and more or less all of them turned out to be a bit of a waste of time. Playing to 4 folk at one point was a pretty low point. Most of our other gigs are well attended. Anyway I gave up and now I am on the lookout for something else. But it's pretty hard to find anything never mind anything decent! I will keep looking for the next few months at least but am starting to think about giving it all a miss! Sad to think about it but I have had a decent run over the years and who knows.....something else may turn up!

You’re only a few years ahead of me and 20 odd miles away, so I’d like to think there’s more out there for you. A friend is in his late 70’s and still gigging a couple of time a week with his band ( Nightfly ).

To the OP, I had a 20 year hiatus and thought it was all over, but a simple chance meeting changed it. You never know what’s round the corner, so I wouldn’t rule anything out.

  9. Days late, but first gig with a new band last Friday. Taking me back to days gone past, playing with keyboards, being just the bass player and a different sorta set list from what I’ve done for the last six years. Liked it and nothing wrong with the set list, just need to tighten up as a unit, which we’ll do over time. I’ve come to the realisation that an almost 20 year hiatus has allowed my ( weak to start with ) skill level to diminish and I’ll never be as good as I was in the 90’s. Enjoying doing a wee bit more though.

  10. Love mine, had for four years now and have the D tuner like yours, but the most uncomfortable thing to play standing up. Fine sitting down, but moves about 12” to the left as soon as you stand up and put the strap on.  I’m going to have to look for the strap extension hook, as I’d love to gig it more.

Do you mean Horse & Jockey  ?

    Dave

No, told Gordon he’d play Bar 6 after a six year hiatus. Horse & Jockey is 5th and 10th of May. I’d be as well leaving my gear setup there. 🙄

Is that the very young drummer. ?

Played in a band years ago with Jack called George's Kitchen named after Jack's dog that he always left in kitchen when he was out. We've kept in touch since 80's. Incredible guitarist and a pure showman into the bargain hence his Zep band.

I went to one of the jam sessions but it was too busy for me. Couldn't move anywhere. Its well attended and quite well organised for different bands.

Wee Ted should consider it as he's a legend in Wishaw.

    Dave

Ted’s playing in the livingroom on the 27th of April, if you’re looking for a wee trip out? 👍

    where in Wishaw Lee ?

Found it ........ Bar 6. Have fun tonight mate and remember to breath in tight as it gets very tight in there when a band is on. Seems to be doing well and taking a bit of business away from Girdwoods these days. Mate from The Led Zep Story Jack Nimmo helps out a lot with bands in there and does a lot of jam sessions in it.

    Dave

Sorry, missed the reply Dave. Yes, they call it “The Live Livingroom”, but we went down a treat and he’s offered us more gigs. It is quite compact and bijou. 🤣 But great audience and when you take it for what it is, it’s just fun. Any gig I’m back in Lanark before the takeaway shuts, is classed as a good venue. 🤣

Friend plays drums with Jack, so will need to pop down and see them. 👍

  14. Great night last night, not too busy, at the Horse & Jockey in Lanark. No rehearsals, just straight in and only fluffed ne song (Dakota, as I play it in a couple of bands and play different structures). However, a load in, gig, then load out, after not having gigged for two months, has taken it out of me and I’m on again in Wishaw at 16:00 today. Nothing since the start of February and then two at once. 🙄
