Guitarist in my band has more guitars (50+), amps and outboard gear than you can shake a stick at; he mixes things up a lot, so every rehearsal/gig is a revelation.

Right now he's favouring a class-d amp and assorted effects on a floorboard (about 18x12"), which he just jacks into whatever cabs are available.  I suppose this will change again at some point.  He always sounds fine, but part of me just prefers the straight approach, guitar into amp.

If you had been in Scotland, I’d have said you were in one of my guitarists other bands. 🤣 He’s gigged with everything from a wee 8” headrush to a line 6 amp, all through various pedals, HX Stop and Pod Go, with everything from a Variax to a ‘74 Gibson SG. I used to struggle with the inconsistency, but now look forward to seeing what arrives with him.

to answer the question, I bought a wee Sonicake Matribox recently and while I understand guitar is different to Bass, that and your wee Vox should cover everything you need for under £100?

Remember then from the Takin on the World and Gallus... great version of Word Up... Big Energy Band... Enjoy

The stories from those days are amazing, touring Europe with the Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi. Love spending time with the guys and getting them to tell us a story about some of the venues they’ve played. Some funny, some sad and life certainly isn’t all rock and roll, when it’s your full time job. 🤣

Was a great night, glad Paul is just alive, never mind back giving it 100%.

  3. As the title, Zoom B1 X for sale. Bought second hand years ago and used for practicing in the house. I can’t remember what I paid for it and while it certainly doesn’t look new ( faded at the front as it’s sat in sunlight on the room carpet ), it’s perfectly functional and would still be using it if I hadn’t bought something else. It’s the one with the pedal and the manual is downloadable.

£30 if collected in Lanark ( although I work in Glasgow and Edinburgh through the day a couple of times a month ). I’ve went and left this on the kitchen table and wife says it’s to go, so reduced it.

£5 postage to anywhere in the UK.

  4. I do a couple of songs and a ZZ Top medley. The lead singer plays in a couple of bands, doing a few nights on the trot isn’t ideal and I volunteered to give him a break a few times in our set. However, he’s quite good and I’m terrible, so I hate hearing my voice after he’s belted out something in key while I’m usually out of key. 🙄

To answer the original question, it takes me months and months of practice to get the courage to even attempt a song in front of the rest of the band. Unfortunately I’m going to say practice. I can sing ok and bass playing is ok, but struggle to do both at the same time.

  5. My crafted in Japan, Geddy Lee is my number one and can’t remember using anything else to gig in the last five years? There are about a dozen other basses in the house, but most any of them make is a rehearsal.

  6. Great wee two hour set in Paisley last night, was home before the Chinese takeaway shut too, which isn’t the norm these days. But two hours right through, without a break, isn’t what I’m used to anymore and suffering today. Had fun though and doing PA for a friend today, so need to unload the van again tonight.

I like the look of this, but I'm a bit clueless when it comes to the various incarnations of Stingrays... 🤔

Does this model sound like a "real" 'Ray? Does it have the characteristic chunky neck? 💜

It seems to offer phenomenal value for money, but is there a catch?

I’m not an expert, bought this one on a whim and liked it so much I bought another. But I wouldn’t describe it as a chunky neck  though? It’s nearer my Jazz dimensions than my precision’s dimensions ( I think anyway ). Not got enough experience to tell if the sound compares to the “real” one or not, sorry.

I bought one of these and my Son defretted it, he's a trained luthier. It is a fantastic fretless. EB don't bring fretless Stingray's into the UK, only by special order which is ££££££s.

Sad story, I might have tried this but my luthier passed away suddenly last weekend. Wee Tam set up all my basses during lockdown and we had a few ongoing plans for various basses. Anyway, he did make me laugh and we’ll always have the time he lost his teeth trying something new.

  9. Music Man Sterling StingRay in cream. 4 string with single humbucker. Bought new from Guitar Guitar just over a year ago and still has the cellophane on the pick guard. I can’t find any marks on it, been hanging on the wall in the house and played very, very little. Loved it so much, I bought another and now need to move one on. Pickup in Lanark, additional £25 posted in the original box it came in from Guitar Guitar ( so will be obvious what’s delivered if someone else in the house is there ).

  10. Last minute gig at a new venue for us last night ( The Cave in Paisley ). We had a booking for the same venue for next month and we hadn’t rehearsed this year. I know a few of you on here have played it, but what is that load in all about. 🙄 Loved the gig, crowd loved us and we already had another booking, but the load in and load out and wracked my already old and decrepit body. 🤣

Wish i had known Lee, i would have taken a wee run down altho the stream of traffic all day and night trying to get across the river on the Carmichael straight would probably have put me off. Took me an hour to get home from Lanark yesterday afternoon.

Good that the gig went well and hopefully catch you next time.

Always a good sign when other bands are coming to see you. You must be good.

    Dave

I took me an hour to drive to Douglas to get the sax player, after her Range Rover cut out after driving through a flood. Van went on fire on Tuesday, with smoke coming out from under the bonnet, so had to get it fixed (new alternator). Then it was leaking more oil than the Exxon Valdez, and needs to go back in for more repairs. So was a hell of a week building up to it, but hope you make one next year, would be good to catch up again. 👍

  12. Played the local Horse & Jockey last night. At least two other band sitting watching, which always gets the adrenaline pumping. Punters really enjoyed it, it is a cramped wee stage. Always a good night, just wish the place was bigger. Here’s to 2023 and the gigs that’ll bring, hope everyone has a good one.
