Can you take some pics of the inside.?

I’ve got it back now, still unrepaired, so I’ll take pictures this weekend. Apparently the power module has failed and Behringer won’t supply one to anyone, but told me to contact an authorised repairer.

Bought a new one a couple of weeks ago, went to use it last night for the first time and the handle snapped off. 🙄

I was with the last band for nearly a year.  Just sick of rotating the same dozen songs, the vetoing of new material, not jamming etc. Suppose this is what it must be if you're just a backing musician.

Interestingly, the singer has lost his whole band in the last ten weeks.  This probably says a lot for what we were sold Vs the actual reality.

Had a very good chat with the guys in the new band. We had an offer of a gig pretty soon and spent an hour of rehearsal regurgitate 20 odd songs we all knew, just to do the gig. Then one of guys asked why we are doing all the same stuff again? A decision was made that we continue with our ideal setlist and not do a gig until we’re ready for it.

  3. Had a 20 year gap, thought I’d never be involved in live music again. Done sound for a friends band and agreed to help for a charity gig, which gave me the bug again. Somehow ended up with a cover band which I got landed with everything and I don’t understand how? I own the van, the PA, book the gigs and organise rehearsals.

Recently been asked to “just play bass” for another band who’ve lost their bass player and haven’t gigged for 4/5 years. I’m being handed songs I’ve never heard before, or songs I thought I’d never play and loving it.

Sometimes it’s just about circumstance and what you get from it?

  4. Been told, by my friendly electronics expert, the fault is in SMPS control section. Sadly he can't isolate exactly which component is faulty without access to full workshop manual. He doesn't even recognise the type numbers of the individual components. 🙄

Is it still worth looking for courier costs to Dorset?

  5. Done a PA hire and sound for a friends band and one of the tops wouldn’t power up ( Behringer DR112DSP ). It’s out of warranty and looking for somewhere in central Scotland that repairs digital amps. I realise not everyone here is in central Scotland, so no big deal if no one has used anyone, I’ll do some googling.

I did have spare speakers, so the gig wasn’t a complete failure and I’ve ordered another speaker in case that one is toast.

  6. Been using the XR18 for a couple of years and can’t see me going with anything else for a while. Only thing I’ve added in the rack, is a feedback destroyer. Software is actually quite workable, once you’ve got used to it, but I had to watch hours of tutorials to understand the more complicated parts. Unlike the Line6 StageScape, which was pretty much plug and play.

  7. I own our current PA, desk, most of the back line, cables and lights. I also bought a crew cab, ULEZ compliant van for us.

I decided to buy a lot of the equipment a few years ago, but band members said not to and we’d agree a way forward together. I’ve never been a fan of decisions by committee, never had it work out. I don’t just do/buy what I want, I usually discuss it with the band first. I realise this isn’t ideal for a lot of people, or bands, but it’s worked for us. If we were to go our separate ways, it’s a clean split. In my experience, bands splitting isn’t usually a clean process.

  8. Last night was a rather exceptional night, anything that could go wrong, did go wrong, right from the first song ( when the guitarist wasn’t even plugged into the desk ). Set list out the window and sound on stage was terrible, so it was a good job it was just a wee gig in the local pub and no one was there see it. 🤣 Except of course for the BassChatter standing in front of me. 😳 Was good to see you though and glad you made it. 👍 It did get better as the night went on, honestly. 🤣

Few weeks off now, as the younger band members go in holiday with their kids.

Playing there in September with The Dana Dixon band which will be the first time for a while. I'm going to have to pay the ULEZ charge unfortunately but it will be spread amongst the band.

First offence is £60 and if you’re not out of the city by midnight, then it’s another £120 on the way out. 🙄 That was over half the gig money for us. 😳

Is that an old J bass there Lee.

I was only jesting about the van hire LOL

I'll see about dropping in Fri night but a Fri is a busy day for me. Will try and make the effort tho.

    Dave

Newest, but oldest bass I own. 🤣

if I’m available, I’d be happy to help. 👍
Would be good to see you on Friday, but I can already see my playing ability falling apart when a pro, like yourself, walks into a gig. 🤣

Shame about the gig especially when you've played well.

Wouldn't class AC/DC or Zep as particularly bluesy either

As for the Crew cab how much to hire you :laugh1:

    Dave

If we only ever play there once, then so be it, as it was actually the best gig we’ve done in a long time. We all thought we were playing to the crowd, as the reactions were so good to the set we were playing.

I’m sure I’ll be cheaper than a hire van, especially for you Dave. 👍 I’m playing the H&J this Friday, but Wee Ted has booked me for Saturday, for his gig in Shotts. 🤣

edited to add the picture of my setup from last night. Using the flea bass, for a change and the Fender Rumble amp.

  12. First gig for us last night at the Howlin’ Wolf in Glasgow ( there a separate thread about playing in the ULEZ zone 🙄 ) and it went down a storm with the crowd. Before we started we got requests for AC/DC and Led Zeppelin, so carried on with our planned set list. Afterwards the bar manager said, despite the crowd and reactions, they might not book us again, as we weren’t “Bluesy enough”. After such a good set and fantastic audience, it was a wee bit of a sour taste, but it’s their pub and they’re trying to carve out a niche in the city centre, so we’ll wait and see what’s said on Monday. But it’s typical of my luck right now, spending £15k on a crew cab lwb van for one gig. 🤣

Get yourself an 18" gym fan and sit to the side of the stage hidden out of sight. It works a treat and at 18" it shifts a lot of cool air at you. I generally aim it towards my lower half as i don't like it blowing my hair :laugh1: (see my avatar)

    Dave

That feeling on stage, when something runs down the back of your leg and just hope it’s sweat. 😳

Aye you should know better. I always do my finger stretches before playing now. I never start playing too soon after carrying large cabs about as that causes my hands to ache and cramp a bit. I always drink between 1 - 2 litres of water at a gig depending on the band and heat. I carry a large 18" gym fan with me for the glam band and on hot days with the punk band. You'd be surprised the difference a decent sized fan makes when playing.

Were you in Lanark last night as i was sure i glimpsed you coming out front door as i passed on way home.

    Dave

Aye, Horse & Jockey. Heat was unbearable for while, as you can’t open doors or windows, due to noise Police.

  15. Catastrophe last night, cramp in my right forearm and my fingers folded into a fist. Very sore and stopped me from playing. All my own fault, completely dehydrated and gig prep’ was terrible. Woke up at a hotel in Fife, after a party on Thursday night. No sleep and didn’t make any effort to be ready. 🙄 Hadn’t happened to me since the 90’s and the older I get, the better I was. 🤣

  16. One on stage, with a spare set of stings in the gig bag and usually a wee Jackson Dinky in the van as a spare. Never, ever used the wee Jackson though.

I play with a guitarist that has two sounds, clean and dirty. I also play with another guitarist that has a guitar and patch for every song. I think I’m trying to say, if you’re not happy with the sound, you have choices. I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer?
