Bright ideas for removing stuff from inside a DB?
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in EUB and Double Bass
You could fit some hinges to the front so the kids can get their own toys out.
Nice! Tasteful toy for the DB player who has everything! -
Bright ideas for removing stuff from inside a DB?

Well the coat hanger didn't work - the sticky tape blob fell off inside the bass In a fit of pique I manhandled the bass upside down and shook it - and managed to retrieve the two Pokemon cards. The Spiderman web is still inside (plus sticky tape blob ) but the bass has stopped rattling so thank you all for your suggestions. PS, I love the fact the picture of the lovely Laeticia Casta has been downloaded over 20 times with no comment from BC'ers -
Love it SS! Don't normally like a maple fretless board but that goes so well with the black body - and I really like the Marathon design

I have decided to suspend this search for now as I have been advised by a few DB-playing BC'ers that a mic would not work well in my band as it would pick up too much of the other musicians (there's 14 of us, including three vocals, guitar(s), drums, souzaphone and full brass). Instead I am buying an upgraded pickup (an ATPflex Electret http://www.kontrabass-atelier.de/pickups_e.html)

Looks fab, Wes! Out of interest why did you take the Fender decal off? It was a real Fender neck after all! I imagine you will have a few cheeky PMs making offers on this. Great work

Oi! Laeticia, get out of bed. I have to empty my double bass -
Can you swap the longer D/G screw over to the E/A and vice versa?
That was my thought. Alternatively I bet Bass Doc has spares .... I'd drop him a PM
How about one of these?
ooh, thats awfully clever! I will try the cheap (wire hanger and sticky stuff) route first and - if that fails - the Maplins picker-upper-thingummy -

Perhaps anyone has a pet chameleon they can lend me for a couple of hours? -

Thx Bilbo, option 1 sounds the most fruitful I tried the model but she wouldn't get out of bed for less than £5000. Not my bed, before you ask Did someone say "where's ferret?" -
My DB has a few Pokemon cards and a Spiderman web inside it, courtesy of my kids when they were very much younger. Generallt these are not a problem but they do rattle when I play the E string and it gets on my wick. Anyone have any bright ideas - short of breaking up the bass (!) how to get these annoying 'childhood treasures' out?

Nice preview of the gig in today's Metro (the London freebie newspaper), just under a quarter of a page (its a tabloid-sized paper). I checked the website but doesn't seem to be on that as well http://www.metro.co.uk/home/
what a truly beautiful instrument
Just gorgeous patina of age there Chris - would love this but sadly I only have a 15 year old, laminate-sided Andreas Zeller worth no more than 1k to trade ... and its got some pesky Pokemon cards and a Spiderman web posted inside it by my kids when they were tiny! Bump for a nice guy with whom I've done a few trades already

What a star! I am about to take possession of an old Fender P and its missing a tip from the scratchplate - Howard sent me, gratis, a matching tip from an old (1963) celluloid Precision scratchplate that should match superbly well. Thanks Howard!
So is this the brand new issue that is newer than the one featured on the website?
It has Geddy Lee on the front of the magazine if that answers your question?

Ibanez Ashula fretted / fretless hybrid - gone

Well I've dived in feet first and ordered an Aguilar TH500C head from GuitarGuitar which says it will get them in stock within 2 weeks. I've also ordered a Barefaced Compact with vintage silver cloth grill, so these two will comprise my 'rock'/non-DB rig. I hope this puts an end to my rig search! It certainly ticks the boxes for me - lightweight, compact/manoeuvrable, powerful, clean-through-to-warmth, ability to overdrive (so don't need separate pedal) etc ... and it looks pretty cool too, which always helps

Where can i buy a Fender Original 62 P Bass Pickup from?
Clarky replied to dave_bass5's topic in Accessories and Misc
How about this, Dave, and pick it up from the seller (in Herts) if it can't be delivered in time http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Original-Pick...=item35b0c8b91e -

That was a (bad) joke. However, how BGM choose a Rick 4001/3 as the number 1 bass is beyond me. I like them but they are very marmite and have obviously not had the imapct on the bass playing world of Precisions (voted #4), Jazzes (#2) or Stingrays (#3)

Per my other reply, I have never taken nor needed a backup. My gig experience is way less than others (maybe 60-70 gigs) but I rarely ever get paid and - never having had a problem with string or electrical issues - see no point bringing a backup.
What were the basses that I must try?
Tokai Rockinbetter, Sue Ryder P-bass and Eastwood Magnum were numbers 1, 2 and 3. Fender P came 48th and the Jazz didn't make the top 65.
-
You noticed that I'm excited, Steve? Its just because I got BGM in the post today and all those 4 1/2 star reviews really get me going ...

How closely does your backup bass resemble your main player?
Clarky replied to ThomBassmonkey's topic in Bass Guitars
Never used a backup. I'm sure it might come in useful about as often as my team (Arsenal) wins silverware, so yeah not needed one in the last six years. Never broken a string either. So the concept of backup is redundant as far as I am concerned. I can understand it for risk limitation purposes but the risks have been infinitesimally small so far in my experience. -
Just installed the 62RI pups that I bought from CD David a while back, in my 58 bitsa. It just sounds so right now and I'm a happy chap tonight. That's all.
Cool, amazing that Leo got it so right, so early in the development of the electric bass! Roughly 50 years of technological advances later and IMHO you still can't beat a good P bass pickup sound
